too bad it means absolutely nothing because the MLS has playoffs...
Well, it means absolutely nothing because we're less than one third of the way into the season. But winning the Supporters Shield isn't completely meaningless. Direct spot (no preliminary round) in the CONCACAF Champions League, favorable seeding for the playoffs, opportunity to host the conference final.

Winning the league would overshadow all those things though.

If Donovan's not on, LA can't win. You know what you're going to get out of Beckham. You know he's going to be quality every time he steps on the field. Donovan is the x-factor in this two-man team. He got shut down by Parke & co. tonight, and all he could do was whine about it. I like Parke, very underrated defender.

I think Osorio outsmarted Gullit tonight as well though. He really does his homework in preparing for these games.

It's amazing that Gordon is still in this league. MLS teams don't tend to be patient with players coming out of college... you get one season, two seasons tops, to show what you've got. If you haven't impressed by then, you get cut and sink into obscurity. And yet somehow, Gordon has stuck around in this league for five seasons.

He was exiled in Portland for two of those years.

I actually think he's better than he looks, he's just a really old style forward.

Real Salt Lake vs. Colorado Rapids on ESPN2 tonight. Yawn.

I can't think of a single player on either team that's worth watching. Christian Gomez, I guess.

I'm only watching because its my patriotic duty to support MLS. Then again, FSL-Crapids isn't exactly Must See Soccer, and hasn't been since April 16, 2005, the day these two titans of sh*t first locked horns on an MLS pitch.

Haha, same here.

At least the game is at The Johnson, so we won't be subjected to that ghastly field at Rice-Eccles.

How do you like them apples, Osorio? Enjoy being the latest in a long line of highly-touted coaches to fail at the NY/NJ MetoRedStarBulls FC. At least if worse comes to worst, you can find a job teaching Calculus to inner-city kids.

I was at the game today too, had a great time. My parents moved to Connecticut, so now I have the opportunity to watch the Red Bulls get humiliated on their own (fake plastic) turf on a bi-weekly basis in the summer.

Isn't that special...you're now a 2 hour drive from my house. God my life sucks.

As for Mr. Cartmenez, will he be able to reach this overrated collection of losers? I for one hope not, because it isn't MLS without the Dead Bulls failing to meet expectations on a yearly basis.

Jozy Altidore's apparently headed to Villareal
By 2010, we might well be a force to reckon with, if we can get a good coach. There's a s***-ton of amazing talent breaking through the ranks.

I don't know, man. Altidore and Adu are truly exceptional talents, but aside from them I'm not sure who we have coming up that's THAT good.

Guys like Kljestan, Rogers and Edu look great in MLS, but Dempsey had a couple of great seasons in MLS, and he's looked painfully ordinary in the Premiership thus far. Not to mention Eddie Johnson, who doesn't seem to even be Premiership material (though it might be early to write him off). Then you have guys like Szetela and Zizzo, who aren't exactly lighting up Europe. Michael Bradley had a terrific season in Holland, but hasn't shown much when playing for the national team. Having said that, even if only Adu and Altidore develop into "world-class" players, that would be a major boost for the national team.

I'm really excited about Altidore. At a reported minimum transfer fee of $10 million, this is the first truly BIG transfer in MLS history, and shows how much potential Villareal (and other clubs) see in Jozy.
