Excited about Martins. We sure need him after tonight’s display from so called 'strikers'. We could still do with another striker though.

Played some good stuff tonight but no bugger got on the end of chances. You could see the frustration on Duff's face. He put so many balls into the box and Luque didn't break a sweat to get on the end of anything.

Ameobi gets some stick but we sure miss him. As for Luque well what can i say? Just a complete waste of space......

Hey! We actually made a very decent sell for once instead of stupidly letting a player have his contract run out, or buy them out, ooorrr sell them for peanuts, you know?

A 250k purchase being resold for 15million euros.........good bit of business, it is.

Yes brother Yoss, but we lost a very talented and YOUNG athlete who will blossom into something amazing, which in some part already has. I wish we would of just loaned the guy out for a season just to see how the Zlatan/Adriano/Crespo mix works out.

Good point. Loaning 'em out would've been optimal, but I doubt that him and his agent would've settled for that sort of arrangement considering that he'll be making 3mil a season now.

Despite how he might've felt about us, I really think that he wanted out for good this time.

I'm a very sentimental dude and it really tugged at me when I saw that pic of him getting out of the Newcastle jet, but at the same time, one less forward equates to maybe, just maybe a bit more time for King Recoba for me, man.

I repeat, let's hope that Crespo comes down with a non career threatening lengthy injury in the next couple of weeks.

So you're playing Estonian side FC Levadia in the UEFA Cup (H)

Great news, great news, I'll probably drive up to Estonia for this match, been awhile since I've seen top flight football!

Good draw for us in the Uefa cup.

Interesting article here: http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx...clid=186&lid=&title=Real+insist+on+Woody+loan

Would certainly welcome Woody back on loan.

Even so, can't anybody else here see that that would mean we would only have one quality centreback in the team!? (:/) :( Bramble is not reliable for a full 90, taylor im not fully sure of yet and moore, well its craig moore!!! :( :s***:

on nufc.com its been rumoured that we are trying to sign ashley cole!! :funny: :D :| cant see that happening! and kerzhakov: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CF7sy9vTNR0 which by the look of that, will be a very good buy if its true and roeder follows up!

plus the comparison of djibril cisse to obafemi martins is highly inappropriate as cisses reputation as a goalscorer had come from the french league which is not known for its quality! (sorry to all french club fans out there reading this) whereas martins reputation has been built in a country that (as many have said) is well known for its defensive organisation and production of great defensive players and is, inarguably, in the top 3 leagues in the world... :-paul:

Actually, the French league is a quality competitive league. :jambo:

Year after year there are good fights and teams that can be near relegation will be fighting for CL spots the next due to the heavy competition of the league.

Actually in recent years the French league has been getting more and more into defensive schemes believe it or not, and it is becoming very difficult to score.

I would say, don't confuse a different style of play with a lack of quality.
Cisse played in a smaller club (Auxerre) where he was the main man, and scored a lot of goals (0.5). Oftentimes you'll find the main man on a smaller team scores more, regardless of the league.

In Liverpool he scored at half that rate, but also was not exactly put in ideal situations as his manager hated him.

Oba played in a huge club where he was a sub and didn't score as much (0.3/game) but definitely has the talent to do so I think.

I would say you can't rightfully compare the two, except for the pace.

I'm not a huge French League fan or anything, but I just know that it has a perception which is somewhat erroneous.

French Champions Lyon are a team I would put up against the best in the world any day.

Anyway, good signing on Oba and I think he will do well in the Prem. He's a strong little guy which will help.

What do you mean 'learns to finish', at the Amsterdam tournament he scored twice against Porto and he was great, for me one of the best on the pitch so NCUFC bought a good striker IMO but it's impossible to be as good as Shearer also so he's a different striker.

That was one game and hopefully a new leaf for Martins. However, you failed to mention that number of goals he blew last year. One game last yera he missed an open net twice because he couldn't stay on his feet. Martins shows pieces of brillance, but he is not a clinical finisher...yet

I still like my point of view though :bouncy:

However, i still dont believe that the french league is anywhere near the italian leagues quality.

I would tend to agree that the Serie A has a very good level of tough hard defensive football, but don't underestimate the quality of Ligue 1.

Have you watched much of it?

Anyway, no need to clutter up more of the Newcastle thread trying to convince about the French league. Just don't be surprised when Bordeaux, Lille and Lyon do really well in the CL again.
