I don't know enough of Lucas Silva.

But I agree with that formation. I have said it before, even in the Moyes era that this would be our best formation because it places our best players in their favourite position.

Would probably just change into 4-3-3? Not sure how would it play out for Rojo/Shaw and Rooney/Mata, though. Don't know if Rojo is ready to play as a pure CB, instead of a LB or a LCB in a back three, but it seems that a back four including Shaw, Rojo and Valencia is way too attacking.

Rojo played most of last season as a CB for Sporting and was solid. I think he can play there as a pure CB.

Why Valencia at the back in a 443?! Valencia is a winger and should never play as a right back. For RWB he's appropriate but not first choice right back. It should be Rafael.

I would prefer 433 but then we will have to play with either Mata or Rooney on the wing. We spent 37 millions in an area we didnt have to. Mata is one of my favorite players but now we have 3 quality AMF including captain Rooney who must start because he is captain and earning lots of money.

I know I just said I hate people creaming their pants over rumours from shit sourcers, but shit sources say that we're closing in on Blind and de Jong. I was a huge fan of de Jong until he joined City, that tackle in 2010 made me love him again a bit. Would be a great addition in my opinion, love a tough guy at the center. He's a bit old, but not too expensive.

Man, I was just looking at that starting line-up and it looks awful. The Top 3 is great but everything below them, barring De Gea, is just awful. Rojo would make that defense adequate, I guess, but man, that midfield is really bad. And your 4th and 5th best outfield players don't fit the team! Even though he's a definite upgrade to Januzaj and Kagawa (at least right now), I don't understahjnd why you splashed for him.

Terrible first half. We are enjoying good possession and passing well in defense and midfield but Sunderland are getting more chances and are dangerous.

Something needs to change but we severely lack options from the bench.

It's not the end of the world though. It is just the first game of the season and the transfer window is still open. Players like RvP, Smalling and Shaw were missing.

LvG said he wants to fully assess the squad before buying anyone. I hope this game has helped him assess.

On the positive side:

1) @ManUtd remain unbeaten in the league at @SunderlandAFC since 1997.

2) Di Maria is coming
For a staggering £63.9m. That's an insane amount especially from a team like Real Madrid. You can usually get players cheaper from big sides, especially when the players want out and the team doesn't need him. I know it's easy to blame Ed Woodward but we have overpaid for every single player he has brought in.

The other question is where would he play. We could have bought both Kroos (20 millions) and Fabregas (30 millions) for less than the price we are paying for Di Maria and still have enough money to buy De Jong or Blind.

49 - Only Messi (57) has provided more assists than Di Maria in La Liga since the start of the 2010/11 season.
