What I wouldn't mind seeing is play Di Maria as part of a 3 man Central Midfield. Play a 4-3-1-2 formation. So it'll look like this:

http://lineupbuilder.com/?sk=45lx5

With this, Di Maria can play that role he played for Madrid last season. Carrick when he's fit again, can alternate from a DM into a CM which gives a bit of coverage when ADM and Herrera go wide

I have actually started unfollowing different United pages on social media because most of the comments under their posts are made by idiots going "SIGN DI MARIA!!! (L) (K)" or "WHERE IS VIDAL?!?!?!?!?!?!" :(

Yeah same here. Though I only follow the official United twitter and facebook pages, I get real annoyed with fans constantly posting that when its completely a different story.

That's a really good idea actually. Di Maria in this position can cover the left flank so it won't be just Shaw there. Herrera can help on the R wing as well but I'm not sure how he'll do there. Cleverley could in fact do very well in the right side of midfield because he has played there before and his crosses are fantastic but unfortunately, he rarely gets into positions to cross. Fletcher would do great there as well because as we all know, he was a R winger before.

Great news: Ander Herrera is injured. Rojo doesn't have a work permit yet.

van Persie is back though.

3 midfielders injured. That leaves us with only Fletcher and Cleverley.

Probably lineup:

That is if Rafael is fit. Not too sure about that. Otherwise it may be Januzaj there and he's not good at defending.

I think this formation is a good idea when we have everyone fit but not now because we have a lot of vulnerabilities.

This is what we should stick with:

Ashley Young can eat bird shit. He's not good enough to play for us unless he can prove us wrong in that wing back position. He's been good there in pre-season.

There is only 1 player out of position in this lineup.

The team went from a 20 year reign to a manager spending less than a year and their combined mistakes have left you at midtable. Surely you're not expecting any manager to come in and fix this immediately?

Of course not and he needs time. Our goal should not to win the league but we should at least challenge for a place in the top 4.

The above quote was one of those things that Moyes said repeatedly. This reminded me of his regime, that's it.

You hit the nail right on the head. It was all about the manager. Without the manager, this club would be nothing over the past 20 years. You have to give credit where credit is due - Ferguson was a great manager, but he mostly worked with mediocre players. Eh, there's exceptions! But the majority? Average, at best.

Even the current lineup - Rafael? Cleverly? Fletcher? YUCK!

This is my predicted lineup vs Sunderland tomorrow.

I felt like when Januzaj came on for Lingard, he really was the only one that threatened the defence when running at them. If Valencia is fit, he needs to go straight back in. He's one player that's also not afraid to run at them and his pace will be much needed.

I don't know but I have a feeling that Powell could get an opportunity this game. He showed good potential in 12/13 season when he played a few games and I if he does, I hope he really shows his worth. And RVP straight back in. We need to bring the lethal pairing of RVP and Waz upfront with Mata sitting behind them.

it shouldn't be an average squad ...

Yeah saw that the other day. That's because we have hardly sold any players worth anything significant for the past few years.

Vidic, Ferdinand and Evra left for free and Giggs and Scholes retired. That's 5 important players who left for £0.

Lots of money was wasted on useless Fellaini and Zaha who is a great potential but not worth the price (27.5 + 16 millions = 43.5 millions already). Herrera was overpaid (£29 millions) when we could have gotten Fabregas or Kroos for less. That said, I love Herrera but he's worth 20 millions or less.

Last season, we ridiculously paid 4 millions more than the contract clause for Fellaini.

I blame all that on Woodland. He seems terrible at negotiating transfers. All the players he has brought in have been massively overpriced.

Looks like we are closing in for Di Maria for somewhere around £48-55 millions. Skysports is saying that the talks are so advanced that it has already been agreed that he'll wear the #7.

Fantastic news if it happens. I am however still at a loss as to where he would fit. We paid £27 millions for Luke Shaw. Surely he won't be wasted on the bench as backup for Di Maria? Di Maria is great on the right wing but can he play right wing back?

I have seen him play well in a 3 man central midfield occupying the more advanced role i.e. more of an AMF than a CMF. Would he be able to play in a 2 man midfield? i.e. Herrera and Di Maria or Di Maria and Fletcher.

£48-55 millions is also a LOT of money for a 26 year old. How many years does he have at his peak? 2 or 3?

I'd be happy to see him in the CM with Herrera. What I'd be extremely happy is we sign ADM, win against sunderland, sign Blind and Lucas Silva. Lucas Silva is young and probably cheap. Get them this window and then go for Strootman in January.

Why would you want to get Strootman? You've just spent like 60m in two years on two mids and are looking to get someone who can play as a third mid for 40m. In a side that plays with two mids because it already has 3 AMCs and 2 STs for, at most, 3 positions. At some point you need to try and make do with what you have and improve the rest of the squad.

I don't think Di Maria can play in a 2 man midfield because he is weak defensively. In a 2 man midfield, you need 2 midfielders who can both defend and attack. Vidal would have excelled there.

Fellaini is slow and can't defend. He can only head the ball and his passing is sub-par. That was how he was the whole of last season anyway. I had high hopes of him but he's not good enough for a top team. He's a great backup though but we wasted 27.5 millions on a player who is good enough to only be a backup player.

That being said, everyone was poor last season under the Moyesy's way but you would have expected him to do well because he has worked under Moyesy's tactics for a couple of years.

true. Would you try a 4-1-2-1-2 formation? If we got the right player like Lucas Silva, it could work with a covering CDM. So something like this?

Even though this wont happen.
