How about that for positioning?

Also, I think Nani (in the first half), had as many mistakes as that. United simply weren't working in the last 3rd.

Another blunder by De Gea almost let Defoe score.... Poor kid can't catch a break.

Edit: LOL @ De Gea opting for the crossfield throw to Smalling instead of the short ball to Evra. Fergie needs to talk to this guy seriously

Defoe WTFF??????? :icon_spin::icon_spin::icon_spin: Could have broke the keepers hands

haha, I had a feeling it's going to happen but selecting him for a first team when we have Berba and Chicharito is not right. I just hope Berba doesn't leave United.

Good performance against Spurs but it was their first game and they didn't look 100%

Positive:
De Gea, played better today, decent footwork and more confidence, still he needs to improves his work during crosses and heavy shots
Good partnership between Jones and Evans (Smalling supported defense more today)
Fantastic display from Anderson and Cleverly again (goal, assist, energy, wise passing and pressing)
In form Wayne Rooney
Ashley Young addition
Depth of the squad (we had Park, Berba, Chicharo, Giggs and Carrick on bench today)
Welback played better after his goal, I hope he that mother****er improves

Negative:
Berba situation

I think they ought to give De Gea a bit of the "Ronaldo treatment". Bulk him up a bit. He'd be much more safe in those hard long shots and much scarier coming up for crosses. Not full-Ronaldo, just enough to make him a bit stronger.

yeah, he need to work on his fitness, he looks so thin. After each collision, he can easily go down.

Commentator was right, playing away matches against physical teams like Stoke and Bolton will be really hard for him.

I'm sick of this ******* negativity in this thread towards our youngsters. Ever heard of being supportive guys?

Welbeck wasn't incredible today, but he scored a fantastic goal and showed some real promise and composure of becoming a superb player for us. You guys seem to expect the finished article straight away.

Evans was fantastic tonight, he's back to the form that he showed a couple seasons ago when he was our 3rd choice CB, great anticipation and composure.

De Gea was a huge improvement, showed glimpses of the abilities that SAF signed him for. Seriously, it's his 3rd game in a new league, new country with an INSANE amount of pressure on his shoulders. ArgVega are you seriously saying that that was a bad thing De Gea did doing the long throw to Smalling? I personally thought it showed some ingenuity and confidence to not do the expected. The "fumble" was hardly a blunder either, he recovered well. Agree with Fili in that he needs so "Ronaldo Treatment" to get him more suited to the physicalities of the Prem.

Just look at how good this side is now, and think of (pretty much) that same lineup in 3-4, maybe 5 seasons time. I'm amazed by the composure and confidence such a young team showed today, it's only going to get better and i can't wait. And that is all down to the brilliance of SAF. Smalling, Jones, Evans, Cleverley, Anderson, Young, De Gea, Welbeck, all showed signs of what integral players they can become (or already are) for United.

Daz, I agree we should be more supportive but at the same time realistic.

I mentioned Cleverly, Anderson, Jones, Evans and De Gea among positive points.

Welbeck was the only sacrifice, United is a big team, greatest in UK and top 5 in worldwide. Our players should be that damn good.

+Welback played 3 matches and played well in 20 minutes, don't expect me to say he's the next Cole or York.

Btw, kp, I meant that surely you're kidding about Welbeck being terrible, not surely you're kidding about him being in the lineup.

In the three matches he's played well in only 20 minutes? Come on. I agree Chicharito should start, but Welbeck is good, man.

I don't know, probably you guys are right, I hope so, lets see what he will do.

Btw, they mentioned a fact in post match analyze which was true. United brought so many young keepers during last couple of years and they mostly didn't impress, however, they do pretty OK outside Old trafford. They were generally saying that high pressure and expectation may affect De Gea's performance. Btw, mentioned keepers were Bosnich, Taibi, Howard and Foster.

Chicharito was still not 100% fit, he will play regular very soon. I'm sad to see Berba in current situation. He's last year's top scorer for god's sake, Fergie should show him some respect + he accepted to stay here.

I don't understand Fergie's reactions to Berba, so unfair.

I wouldn't say it was unfair. Ferguson is doing what he feels is right for the team, and right now it's riding the wave of energy and enthusiasm in the youngsters. We're only THREE GAMES in to the season. And it takes a squad to win a championship.

Watched a replay of the match:

- Van der Vaart lacked sharpness and was terrible today. It came down to who could play the AMC role better today, and Rooney did it best coming deep than VDV, who failed to communicate with Defoe (who simply refused to pass to him, almost), took stupid longshots when the game was still even and missed a boatload of passes.

- Friedel was brilliant. De Gea made his saves, but is still a bit nervy, but he kept a clean sheet, you can't ask for more from a keeper.

- Young was better than Nani. Young was brilliant. Young is a coup. Fact. I don't remember which one of you didn't want him, but surely Ashley's making you eat your words. Looks like he's been a part of the team for years.

- Welbeck looked better after the goal, but I don't think he did anything wrong, you could do a lot worse than Welbeck as 3rd choice.

- Redknapp was commended by the Spanishn commentary team for going all-out by playing Chenko and Huddle for the two central mids, but he just played into ManU's hands, who had so much flexibility and speed at the front, that opening the game up allowed them to dominate what was a close game up to that point.

The scoreline does no justice to Spurs, although Harry just allowed them to implode. The match was fairly even for an hour despite VDV being woeful and Livermore and Krancjar being the central mids, so Spurs shouldn't be too downhearted.

ManU definitely deserved the win, though.
