United couldn't attack much for the game, Liverpool was constantly running and fighting for the ball. They deserve the win. As for Berbatov's first game, he showed some brilliance in his touch and control and made an assist for Tevez's goal, but other than that, we didn't see much of him. He was invisible for most of the game. And I don't like to see Rooney on the flank, thats not his natural position. Ahh always feels bad to lose against Liverpool but hope that we do better against Chelsea next week.

Apart from the stupid mistakes we made throughout the game, the other thing that bothered me is that we couldn't play the ball on the wings... You'd think that with a tall man like Berbatov we'd be having players try to cross the ball in but that happened like what...twice in the whole game? I don't blame him for being invisible in the second half tbh...Tevez didn't see much of the ball either...The midfield just couldn't construct anything meaningful.

If the red card is not overturned, seeing as he wasn't the last man. But he deserved a yellow each for his other fouls not given.

Has a red card ever been over turned? The FA very rarely go back on the referees decision

Hard to stomach the defeat, but thoroughly deserved. We were second to those 50/50s and our passing wasn't at our usual standard. On another day, we might have scraped through. van der Sar was at fault for the first goal undoubtedly, the luck had to go for once. Second goal was just as disappointing, Giggs should have knocked it out instead of trying to shield it out. We got what we deserved, and I hope Evans is given a chance next week.

That's what made it so hard to take - we made a great start and then the wheels came off. Edwin has looked increasingly shaky recently - that goal was always coming I felt. As for the rest of the match, it was simple - we were out fought, out thought and generally out done. It's sickening to see that in a United Liverpool game. Vida being sent off capped a pretty miserable day all round. Berbatov started well but he seemed to get sucked into the general lacklustre performance of United as a whole.

Also I think it's obvious that we cannot play Berba, Rooney and Tevez together - one is going to have to miss out. Especially with Cristiano being declared fit for Wednesday (and I think like him or not - the team has missed him) Rooney was camped out on the right at Anfield. We had no width either.

As for the Chelski game - I can see us possibly getting a hiding. Especially if yesterday was anything to go by.

Team for Chelski (prediction)

GK: VDS
LB: Evra
CB: Ferdinand
CB: Brown (or John O'Shea with Brown at RB)
RB: John O'Shea (as above) or Hargreaves
LW: Nani
CM: Anderson
CM: Scholes
RW: Ronaldo
SS: Rooney
FW: Berbatov

Help?

Don't get so down on yourself, we had a lunch kickoff after big international break for guys like VDS, Brown, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Rooney, Anderson, Berbatov. The players were really tired and it was always going to be hard to go to Anfield at that time and perform against much fresher players at Liverpool, who aren't as involved in internationals. Chelsea is a different story, its a Sunday game and the players will be ready.

More good news - just heard on the radio that AIG are about to go tits up  - looks like we might be playing with blank shirts for the rest of the summer. This is starting to seem like the season from hell!

Starting tomorrow night, United have to step it up and turn things around.

btw I have read AIG signed a contract with Man U to be their shirt sponsors for four years and they've already paid us the 56.5m that the deal was worth. So there current problems based on impending recession shouldn't effect us unless they enter liquidation or administration. If they did enter administration we would have to remove there logo from the shirt like west ham had to remove XL.

Guess that would then mean a new sponsor, but they would be lining up.

*edit* I stand corrected. They were too pay 56.5 over 4 years

the Old Trafford side are confident that they will be unaffected by AIG's turmoil.

Guess the biggest thing that will effect us directly is us having to buy new football shirts with the updated sponsor! £50 down the drain.

Carrick has broken a bone and will be back in 4-6 weeks. One more injury, bad luck again... Scholes is suspended for the villareal game, so maybe we will see Anderson/Hargreaves or Fletcher.
