lol yeah, he should of been world player of the year last year too. Sadly the award doesn't appear to go to exceptional performances through out the year, but rather someone who plays the odd few games well in the CL.

Dont get me wrong about Ronaldo and Nani, there both special players. Nani diving around like a fool needs to end. He will be so much better for it. Ronaldo was the same.

Its a joke no player outside of the Spanish and Italian leagues has ever one it. After all the pressure in the media recently though, they will have gone out there way to make sure someone outside wins it.

Ronaldo coming below messi last year, although scoring more, getting more assists and with messi out 3 months. Ronaldo also getting ranked above messi in europe (sorry its not europe anymore, world) lol.

Then theres that year Henry did better then Ronaldinho. Henry being the magic in arsenals unbeaten season. Yet Ronaldinho won it.

We could go on all day about it. Major tabloids hammered it last year though, the whole ac milan match fixing and being allowed back into the CL. Cant believe they got away with what they did, especially as its the 2nd time they been caught fixing! so I guess they will be "fixing" the WPOTY.

The competition could also be accused of placing too much weight on World Cup and UEFA Champions League achievements. For example, Davor Šuker, who finished as top scorer at the 1998 World Cup, was relatively unprolific at club level. Ronaldo, who won the award in 2002, had not played at all prior to the 2002 World Cup. Prior to the 2006 World Cup, Fabio Cannavaro was not considered to be in contention for the award. In the 2007-2008 season Kaká, despite having a hugely successful season in the 2006-07 Champions League, did not reach double figures with his goalscoring in the domestic league and was often rested before Champions League games, whereas many other players could not afford this luxury. Cristiano Ronaldo earned more domestic success by number of trophies than both Kaká and Lionel Messi combined, and also scored more goals than both. However, it would seem that Kaka's success in European competition outweighed the achievements of Ronaldo.

I think the fact that Ronaldo went missing in big matches didn't help either..........
really, why would u give $hit about who's the world player of the year award, if in you're mind he's the best, then he's the best, why would you need any acknowledgement from others..............if it was voted by fans, i'm sure Ronaldo would've won it.
IMO right now, as much as I hate him, he is the best player in the world.

valid point, just niggles the hell out of me. I blame it on the Sun, all this anti Europe stuff brain washes me, pro £, Anti EU with the bloody french and germans political power and then the whole anti iraq, afgan stuff not that people in the UK aint anti war.... anyway :D :)

Talking about our top players. Was thinking about rooney recently, how hes been lacking a little form. Hes due a goal rush, pitty he seems to get a injury just as the goals start flowing. Anyway th reason I bring it up, I stumbled on this...

United this season With Rooney

Games 16
Wins 13
Draws 3
Losses 0
Goals For 41
Average Goals For 2.56
Goals Against 7
Average Goals Against 0.44
Win % 81%
Points per game 2.62

United this season Without Rooney

Games 10
Wins 5
Draws 1
Losses 4
Goals For 9
Average Goals 0.90
Goals Against 7
Average Goals Against 0.70
Win % 50%
Points per game 1.60

Is rooney that good for us? or is it because we haven't had the right striker to cover in his absence? Discuss

Red Card [Being a douche] exp. 22/1/06
There is nothing conspiracy like toward Ronaldo

Just that FIFA is a high class organization. I doubt they would want a spoiled brat like C. Ronaldo be their poster boy.

A superclass player should be one not just on the field, but away from it too. A player that spends as much time with prostitutes as he does with a football isn't really appealing to FIFA i guess.

Don't get me wrong, i like Ronaldo the player. It's Ronaldo the human being which i have reservations with. That's why is so easy to love Kaka. He is one of the best in the world and keeps a very low key personality off the pitch.

Having that said if i had to pick between the two for my team i would have serious issues deciding. Any of the two would be awesome.

lol, I didn't know he regularly visited prostitutes?!! He should get his blood checked since he shags birds on a day-to-day basis!!
:ends sarcasm
come on now, how do u know for sure what he does off the pitch.....
The Sun, Daily Mirror??!! those are all fictional and speculation/gossip newspapers right there!!

come on... if kaka was playing in the UK the Sun or some organisation would invent something. I can see it now... "Kaka, I belong to hoes". Although I agree with what your saying, never really crossed my mind. You got the church loving golden boy or the lad with a few blemishes. There was that supposed "rape" charge too.

But there again, look at Zidane he aint exactly know for his evangelical past.

I'm glad you have all the facts..

lol, that's what i thought.

Deisler: Since when is the Player of the Year Award about what you do off the pitch? I see what you are trying to say, but it shouldn't be judged on news people heard of the players outside of the game.

Tell that to FIFA. Remember the Maradona vs Pele award incident, the one which fans voted for Maradona?:junior:

UNBELIEVABLE!! When its not your day its NOT your day! Pompey dont even deserve this win. The ball wouldnt go in for us...that carrick chance just summed up the day. we were absolutely luckless. I am gutted alright!

all that treble talk....now we gotta at least win the league. I just hope we dont end up trophyless.

And one more thing...why cant we just play the bloody 4-4-2 i just dont like when we play the 4-5-1 with one striker. Its ineffective. when tevez came off...there was simply no striker bcuz rooney kept failling deep.

Yellow Card
(6)Ferguson(6) is PISSED!!!!!!!!

"It's absolutely ridiculous. I cannot explain it.

"Managers get sacked because of things like that and he's going to referee a game next week.

"Keith Hackett (general manager of the Professional Game Match Officials Board) has got a lot to answer for in this country. He's not doing his job properly.

"He should be assessed like everyone else is assessed. I'm assessed as a manager, the players are assessed, referees are assessed. Martin Atkinson will referee next week, no problem. But his performance today should not be accepted in our game.

"I agree with Sepp Blatter, the standards in our game as opposed to the Continent, the tolerance level, is behind Europe. I think it's a big problem.

"The game was decided by the decision not to give us a penalty. They had great confidence to hang on knowing the referee was on their side.

"Lassana Diarra had eight or nine fouls in the match. It's incredible. I've got to agree with Arsene Wenger. Someone is going to get a serious injury in our game. He's had one himself with Eduardo.

"It's not a nice thing to talk about but, the treatment Ronaldo is getting, I'm worried about him.

"Keith Hackett is in a nice, comfortable position and does nothing really. I don't think he makes a contribution to the referees' performances in our country.

"That should be addressed. He's not doing his job properly. That guy will go and referee next week no problem. You see his favourites always get the games and that's disappointing."

Don't particularly feel sorry for Man U- makes a nice change for a penalty to be given at Old Trafford.

Have to say the red card was a bit harsh looked like there wasa couple of defenders on the line. Aso thought Rio might have saved the penalty looked like he was close to getting to it

Fergie is absolutely right. Who the hell was that a red card for Kuszchak? He wasn't the last different, infact he was third last. And how many keepers go out to intentionally trip players with their heads. The standard was just very very low. Diarra must have fouled at least 4 times before he got a yellow card and even then complained as if it shouldn't have been given.

Not much luck today and when you saw Pompey break with both United defenders going for the guy with the ball and leaving Baros all alone, you knew something was gonna happen. I can understand how Tevez didn't score his shot, but how did Carrick not score is beyond me as well. Evra had a great one on one as well but decided to pass across for some reason. Not our day, what can i say? Whatever, with like 10 EPL teams in the FA Cup its been coming.
