Owen's at Madrid.

There's no way they need Ronaldo, Raul, Morientes and Owen, even with Ronaldo past his prim and Raul somehow a shadow of his former self. Especially consdiering Figo and Zidane, among others, can be a compotent recessed striker as well, thats just way too much.

Think this means we're more likely to get Morientes? That'd be pretty sweet.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I think I'd rather get Rooney. We have Saha, Smith and RVN already (when they're all healthy) so we don't need an everyday striker, we just need someone who can come in once in a while and kick ass, sort of like Rooney did at Everton last season (didn't start but still played pretty well.) A 4th striker at Manchester United can't possibly expect to be playing in all of the games with the players we got, and since Rooney's still young, he'd need to be rested anyways. He'd fit perfect.

Rooney, Smith, Fletcher, Bellion, O'Shea, Spector... we'd easily have the best young team in the world. It'd be a great foundation for the future of the club.

lol buy Rooney for a big money to sit him on the bench:D isn't it stupid?

that's the logic that Real seems to have.
Besides, Rooney sat on the bench quite a bit last season at Everton. C Ronaldo's doubtlessly going to be on the bench quite a bit this season.
They're young we have to rest them sometimes, it's a simple fact. Manchester would be the perfect environment for Rooney. It's a place where he'd be able to rest and be around some of the best strikers in the world at a team which has produced some true greats.

If Owen gets Owen, we should try to get Raul.:crazyboy:

nah, we don't need a shadow man ;) but is fun to see how madrid play next season. are they going to play 4-1-2-1-2? by owen and ronaldo partner at front. raul play behind 2 striker, zidane take left and figo right. beckham play center. anyway, they still don't have a good DM. nice to see how they play.

owen will probably keep beckham company on the bench. I can t wait to the barcalona real game , so much attacking quality on both sides.

Eriksson tried to lure back Scholes

Sven-Goran Eriksson tonight revealed that he had made one final attempt to persuade Paul Scholes to abandon his decision to retire from international football.
However, Scholes has declined the invitation to perform a dramatic U-turn ahead of next week's friendly against Ukraine in Newcastle.

Eriksson therefore thanked the Manchester United midfielder for his immense contribution to the national team and told him that the door would always be open for a comeback at a later stage.

The England coach, who will tomorrow name his squad for next Wednesday's game in Newcastle, revealed: 'I'm very sorry about Paul Scholes.

'I made a final phone call to him to ask him if he had changed his mind. I doubted it would work, but I wanted to try as I had nothing to lose.'

Eriksson is at least confident that Scholes' decision, which he was relayed to him soon after England's Euro 2004 defeat by Portugal, will not spark others in the squad to follow suit.

'I'm not afraid of other players doing the same as to play for England is a big thing for every player,' he insisted.

There will, however, be precious few experienced figures in the squad for next week's friendly, with Rio Ferdinand and Sol Campbell ruled out, while Wayne Rooney and Jonathan Woodgate are also injured.

Eriksson will therefore take a look at a few younger players who could feature in the 2006 World Cup qualifiers, including Tottenham duo Jermain Defoe and Ledley King, as well as Manchester City's Shaun Wright-Phillips and Liverpool's Chris Kirkland.

Joe Cole and Wayne Bridge have returned to full training with their clubs after injury problems, while Eriksson will have to monitor any further fitness concerns from tomorrow's opening round of Barclays Premiership matches.

While potential outsiders include Robert Green, Anthony Gardner, Zat Knight and JLloyd Samuel, Manchester United's new recruit, Alan Smith, seems set to return to the squad, especially with Shola Ameobi out injured.

'I talked to Bobby Robson about him and he's injured. He has a back problem and isn't fit,' revealed Eriksson.

'Hopefully we might have some new players involved though, like Defoe and King, while I hope that Kirkland will stay fit for a long time.'

just assume Saha to be out until December
Ole is definately out for 1 season.
we have Ruud(after a month),Smith and Forlan left.
considering Forlan as a good impact striker is wrong.
instead of buying a class striker and spending much,we better get a striker on LOAN.
that ould be better.cause if we get 1 more, then we would have surplus strikers in the team after all the injuries would be gone.

who would u guys go with as a striker on loan?
Morientes?

All United needs is a fit van Nistelrooy. He was the reason that United won in 2003 and that they didn't last year. He didn't play nearly as well.

I expect him to really put on a show when he gets back.

We can't depend always depend on van Nistelrooy. Saha, Smith and Bellion have to step up. Who are we gonna depend on when van Nistelrooy retires?
