I don't think United will go for any forwards this summer, unless one of the quartet leaves.

Saha looks the most likely.

However, there are other areas which needs strengthening first. United need a top class dominant goalkeeper, which would mean in all likelihood that Howard will leave.

A winger is also needed, as Giggs is not getting younger.

An eventual successor to Roy Keane, although there probably isn't such a player in the world at the moment, would also be welcome.

And Scholes is also not getting any younger. In two or three years' time his time would probably be up.

Fletcher will be our central midfielder in the future, lets see if he plays the "Scholes" role or the "Keane" role. He is not strong-built enough at the moment.

We let Djemba-Djemba go so i think Fergie has thought about the successor to Keane. He is the manager...so...let him be the one to worry about this. :D maybe Miller will turn into another Keane one day.

We have a good crop of youngsters too - you can't hold court on all of them after one bad game (Exeter) they're doing well in the Reserve leagues at the moment. David Jones did well against Exeter, MUTV are quite excited about him. As for young Guiseppe Rossi, I can't wait to see him break onto the first team stage in the future. The player I'm watching at the moment is Floribert N'Galula - he is built like Patrick Vieira (6ft 4) and plays in the same style and he's only 17-18. He has also played a bit in defence this year too, so he should be versatile as well. Hopefully he will continue to develop his skill as someone of his stature in our future midfields would be very welcome. Then of course there's Gerard Pique and Jonathan Spector in defence as well.

As for aquisitions, I'd like to see Shaun Wright Phillips and Steven Downing on our hitlist this summer. As well as the young guy at Spurs, Reto Ziegler.

I think there is a possibility of Alan Smith dropping back to midfield to replace (If that's possible) Roy Keane. Smithy has the same combative edge that Keano has and we know he's strong on the ball.

I'm not quite sure that Fletcher will make it. I think in the end he'll become a very good squad player, but that's it. He has too many 'all right' games and not enough good games. His distribution and decision making is good, but he possesses neither the grit and determination in Keane nor the goalscoring prowess of Scholes - the Scotsman has only one senior goal to his name.

There are many youngsters waiting in the wings but you have to expect half of them (at least) to fall by the wayside. That's how football is, unfortunately. And either way Keane is likely to retire or be well past his best by the end of next season, so a replacement there is urgent. I don't think the reserves can step up within just a year or so.

Agree with Shaun Wright-Phillips, although can't see Man City selling him to us with the intense rivalry and high interest from other clubs.

I think we should hold out for Downing because he struggled a few times against better defences. He didn't do much at all in the recent game at Old Trafford. If we sign him for big money we can lose out for him being a one-season wonder.

I don't rate Reto Ziegler that highly personally, but he's still young and I suppose he can prove me wrong. But at the moment, he's certainly not quite good enough for the red shirt, IMO.

The Smith dropping back has been suggested but I don't know about that. He's certainly got the combative edge of Keane, but his positioning, being raised as a striker, is nowhere near the Irishman's. He's got a lot to learn if he's to become a successful combative midfielder.

Rossi Included In Euro Squad
Giuseppe Rossi has taken Eric Djemba-Djemba's place in United's 25-man Champions League squad. The 17-year-old United forward has been in fine form for the Reserves following his summer move from Parma. Djemba-Djemba's departure to Aston Villa during the January transfer window has created space for the dimunitive attacker, who has created a buzz at Old Trafford with the some terrific solo goals and his impressive passing and intelligent movement. He made his United debut - his only first-team appearance to date - in the 2-0 Carling Cup win over Crystal Palace back in November. Rossi has dual nationality; born in America, he holds an Italian passport.

Flecher could be out for two months with a knee injury!

Manchester United have suffered a blow with the news that Darren Fletcher faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

The Scottish international picked up a knee injury during last weekend's derby win over Manchester City.

Scans have shown the full extent of the problem and Fletcher has suffered ligament damage which is expected to keep him out for up to two months.

It means Fletcher will miss the resumption of United's UEFA Champions League campaign and a large portion of the rest of The Premiership.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson admitted it was a major blow for club and country with Fletcher also set to miss the World Cup qualifier with Italy next month.

"It's bad news for us and it`s bad news for Walter (Smith) and Scotland," Ferguson told The Scotsman.

"It does look very bad.

"I'm told he will be out for a minimum of seven weeks but, of course, that is no certainty. He could be out longer.

"It's worse news for the lad because he had been playing so well and had so much to look forward to."

Scotland boss Walter Smith also lamented the loss of the influential midfielder.

"Of course, it’s a real blow for us ahead of the match in Italy," said Smith. "But, more than anything, it’s a rotten thing to happen to young Fletcher.

"He had started to establish himself at Manchester United last season and you’d expect a young kid to have a reaction to that in the following season.

"That’s what happened at the start of this season, but he had come through that and, in my opinion, was playing as well as any midfielder in England. And he had so many big matches, great occasions, to look forward to, for his club and his country.

"United are challenging in three competitions, including Europe, while Scotland have three World Cup ties between now and the first week in June.

"For this to happen is a terrible setback, but I’m sure he has the character to overcome it and be a valuable player for us."

Shame, he was proving to be a vital squad player

Roy Keane has had a cheeky swipe at Ashley Cole for his blatant dive during Manchester United's recent 4-2 win at Arsenal.
The England full back was guilty of 'simulation' inside the penalty area towards the beginning of United's impressive success against the champions as Keane moved in to steal possession.
Although referee Graham Poll failed to take any action against Cole, Keane was less than pleased and has joked that the game should be concerned with the menace of diving as well as the likes of racism and bullying.
"I wasn't quite sure what he was up to," the United skipper told the club's official magazine.
"If I had known, I might have reacted differently.
"Before the game, there was all this stuff about anti-racism and anti-bullying but it would be a good idea to start wearing wristbands for anti-diving.
"It's not just about foreign players because Ashley Cole is English but it's something that has crept into The Premiership.
"Players are going down far too easily and it seems to be getting worse."
There was a feeling amongst Arsenal players that they had been unfairly treated at Old Trafford in the corresponding fixture when Wayne Rooney earned a penalty when Sol Campbell's challenge made minimal contact.
This may have been at the back of Cole's mind early in the Highbury thriller but Poll did not fall for the theatrics.

Tough luck for Fletcher. He was just starting to play better as well and perhaps mould into the player we all hoped he would be.

fletcher does impressed me this season. last time he used to lose the ball at center but nowadays he play more like keane + scholes. when defending, he will be there for help, while attacking, he is always giving full support.

pity he picked up an injury :(
