Swearing at a ref is worse than swearing at a national public audience?Nady;3014888 said:Swearing at the match official is a more serious offence.

A more appropriate analogy for this would beNady;3014907 said:To me yes it is. Swearing at the ref to me is like swearing at your teacher at school. Fergie got banned for 5 games for saying that "the ref was not fair" and Reina gets nothing for saying the f word to the ref? Come on. I don't think thats fair at all.
That being said, I'm not saying that Rooney shouldn't have been banned. He deserved some sort of punishment. But if he's been punished, other players should be punished too for doing similar offences.
Also of note, there's no rule that says that "every player who swears at the camera should be banned for 2 games".
Btw I know you're a United hater. Admit it.
Sevillista;3014917 said:Players swear all of the time, even to refs, and it is up to the refs discretion whether it is a bookable offense or not. What is said on the pitch stays on the pitch, until you yell it into a public television camera.
Sending-off Offences
A player, substitute or substituted player is sent off if he commits any
of the following seven offences:
• Serious foul play
• Violent conduct
• Spitting at an opponent or any other person
• Denying the opposing team a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity by deliberately handling the ball (this does not apply to a goalkeeper within his own penalty area)
• Denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity to an opponent moving towards the player’s goal by an offence punishable by a free kick or a penalty kick
• Using offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or gestures
• Receiving a second caution in the same match
A player, substitute or substituted player who has been sent off must leave the vicinity of the fi eld of play and the technical area.

Yes, Reina should have been sent off according to the rules. Like I said, realistically, I think all refs tolerate a certain amount of verbal abuse and whether they get a red depends on the ref and the circumstances.Nady;3014932 said:No footballing rule actually says that. This is just your opinion. IMO referees should be more strict about abusive language.
Lets take a loot at the FIFA football rules:
Going by these rules, Reina should have been sent off.
There's no mention about swearing at the camera deserving more punishment in the FIFA "laws of the game":

Sevillista;3014917 said:Also, ManU fans have been making excuses for Rooney's behavior for years now, and never admit that he simply has an attitude problem. It doesn't mean he's not a player worth having, but you get the bad with the good.
