If you're talking about how Liverpool failed by not improving their starting lineup, suggesting that they should be looking to getting someone who would take minutes away from one of their best players is stupid.

Not sure Falcao woud go there nor that they could afforf his wages properly. You don't want someone coming in earning double what anyone else makes. It also looks like falcao became available very late.

They could have got Mandzukic perhaps or Lukaku, or Benteke, maybe beaten wenger to Sanchez, the world is not exactly short of strikers at the moment. I agree with nady's point, if you sell a player for 80/90/100m, it seems to me that you absolutely must go out and drop minimum of 50m on an absolutely world class player who will fill roughly the same roll, even if you have to overpay. So if you sell Suarez for 80m or whatever, immediately go out and bid 50m for Benzema, Falcao, Cavani etc, if those bids get rejected, bid 55 and so on until one gets accepted. You can spend anything left over on plugging other holes. I also dont think you can bring in more than 3 -4 new first team players in a transfer window without severely disrupting your squad at at least a few months of your campaign.

They didn't bring in players to start, they bought depth. They will finish in the CL spots, reach the knockouts and then splash on the big players who will THEN want to come next season.

I'm not sure they are going to make the CL, even with the leaky defense I think this United side have a chance of getting there just on pure firepower, and I also see something in Pochettino's tottenham despite poor results. I honestly think the fourth CL spot could go to any one of united, liverpool, tottenham or everton.

EDIT: man for man, this united are so much better than liverpool it is unreal, they just need to shake off their current bad mentality.

Getting 3-4 players instead of 7-8 would have meant exhausted players and losing everything. This way they have a better chance of getting 4th even if they postpone 1st for a year.

If Liverpool offered him a good salary I don't see why not. Liverpool is widely supported and they're in the Champions league

They tried to sign him in the end of the 2013 summer transfer window. Matched his release clause and offered to triple his salary (don't quote me on the last bit). He didn't want to join them then, and don't see how that would've changed over a year. Yeah the CL and top4 finish, but still..

They wouldn't have had a chance this summer anyway, once Chelsea came knocking during the end of last season, the move was pretty much set in stone. I guess Liverpool don't have that much appeal, yet.

Widely supported in England, but they have no means of beating ManU, Chelsea or even Arsenal for players right now, financially or otherwise.
