I think this was so a boring "classico".

The two teams played crap...Benfica was lucky to score this shi*** goal.

Agora so sao 2 pro Sporting e 5 pro Benfica...

Falta um #10 que organize o jogo na equipa do Porto...sera que o nosso treinador vê isso?

O Vitor esteve infeliz no lance do Golo, mas para mim serás sempre o melhor Guarda-Redes portugues! FORCA VITOR!

FORCA PORTO, ainda há muito pra jogar!

POOOOOOOOOOOORTO!

I think we have lost more, the difference was smaller than 5 points at the christmas break wasn't it?

no offense dude, I obviously can't accuse you of being biased and all, but....what the F.U.C.K.?
am I the only one here to realize that did NOT happen? :(

Ok plenty was a little far fetched, but they did have more chances that Porto and had the clearest one, i.e Nuno Gomes.

Like those coaches only observe the brazilian, spanish, italian and english championship, I doubt he can be in that squad. But yeah, he is a very good player, in those last matches we see him sometimes go all the way through the wing...making 1-2 and running like hell...

But still, there are players that are in front of him for that squad. Take Gustavo Nery, Dede, Sylvinho, even Beletti can play on the left...

Dede? i don't remember the last time he was called, actually i don't know if he was called already. Parreira will call Roberto Carlos and Gustavo Nery. Leo and Junior are the other choices. and Leo played in the Confederations Cup last summer.

BTW thank god we missed Dede sign in the summer.

Already had the feeling all day long something was going to go wrong. Everything went wrong and this was the "piece de resistance" to finish the day. My mates will have a field day tomorrow, rubbing this into my little perfect face...

Congratz to Benfica for being a little less ****tier than us at the right time and for having God on your side who punished me for mocking the acquisition (sp?) of Laurent-bloody-Robert (oh, I had that one coming...)

Looking on the bright side: 10 more games to come, 10 more opportunities for the kittens and the chicks to screw up big time (little rays of hope are bliss)

Glad I was wrong! :)

I think it's a deserved victory, because we played more consistently as a team and showed more "fighting spirit". It wasn't a very good game, but it was intense.

Baía's blunder was enormous, but it's true that Robert fired an extremely powerful shot and with a wicked bend. It's still a "frango" though, mainly because it was shot almost from the midfield. It was ridiculous (but also funny as hell) hearing the SportTv commentators trying to justify his mistake with several stupidities, the biggest of which was "there were players in front of Baía, so he didn't see the ball leave" and in the replay you can see the way to the goal was almost clear and that Baía clearly sees when Robert shoots.

Our defence was great today, like against Liverpool. Manuel Fernandes is getting back on form, he had a good game. And Léo was amazing! Truly the best LB we've had in many many many years. That play when he passed several Porto players, including a ball between Lucho's legs was fantastic. Like I said to my friends, Léo may be small, but he's an enormous player.

I'm also very glad there weren't sending offs in the game and that it was played in a good spirit. It's good that no one can justify the results with refereeing. I don't like to talk about this, but I just have to say there were 2 awful offside decisions against us in the 2nd half in very dangerous situations and the penalty on Petit was also clear. Anyaway, it doesn't matter.

Well, we're still 5 points behind. It's still a though position and we simply can't drop any more points. Now it's the time for the team to show if they have what it takes to be champions or not. It will surely be very difficult and unless we start to be more consistent and convicing, it ain't gonna happen. But at least things are still open and we'll have an exciting championship until the end.

Edit: Oh, and once again Koeman owned Adriaanse (in 10 games, it's now 8 Koeman wins and 2 draws).

Nuno Gomes was equal to himself.... whatta a weak forward...

That's why i loved when Scholari didn't call him for this next game against Saudi Arabia... i really hope Postiga can prove himself in the NT, becoz he is way better than Nuno Gomes... he just had some bad spells at Spurs and in his return for Porto and his form and confidence suffered a big blow... but it seems he is recovering it gradually.... :)

First, congrats to Benfica, they deserved to win. Not that they were good - and I agree with Tajike here - but they simply didn't play as bad as we.

Moving on to my small analysis on our loss:

Why we didn't win:

a) Our strikers are average, at best. None of them is good, with the exception of McCarthy, who decided to not give a damn about a season ago.
To them, holding the ball long enough to get support from the midfield seems like a dauting task; hitting a decent pass is as difficult as scoring a goal; scoring a goal is as difficult as winning Euromilhoes; they collect offsides at the rate I look at my watch on a friday afternoon. That McCarthy/Adriano double may be the worse I've ever seen since the glory days of Vinha and Domingos.
Our best scorer comes up at n.10 on the table, and he is Lucho, a midfielder!! Really, without a decent striker there is not much you can do. Like I said in the Liga thread, BUY LIEDSON. Give the lagartos 7M € (bcs they are in a position where they have to take them) and get the guy.

b) There is no organization in our game. Lots of forwards but no brains to put the ball where it should be. I saw Quaresma, our best player, a couple times with the rock on his feet. His fault? No way! Nobody was smart enough to know he is The Guy, the man where all things good start. There are no plays to get him open on the wing whatsoever. I did not see Porto once switch the ball quickly from one wing to the other, to take advantage of the unbalanced defense...

c) Co Adriaanse. [I love it when our commentators call him Adriaansen...] The team had a week to rest and prepare the match. Still, they didn't run, didn't pressure like Benfica, showing no soul or character to turn things around. Hell, Porto are the ones known for their soul and character, but this dude stole it from us!
Co has no abbility to read the game and identify the flaws [Read point b)], so his answer is always putting more men up front. He is incapable of winning an important match, as he proved time after time this season.

Why we lost:

a) We lost because our sub gk played yesterday. Baía is a legend, he's Portuguese finest keeper ever, but being subbed, especially for those reasons, hurts one's confidence and morale. He commited a huge mistake, unexcusable, which costed us a game and might have more consequences in the long run.
Still, Baía proved he is a Great, by admitting his mistake and assuming responsibility. That is something a certain peer of his, more connected to the KFC world than our n.99, never had the character and decency to do.

------------------------------

Ufff, that felt good. Better than going to the shrink, I tell ya. :p

Now I also find it extremely funny the whole "masks" story. Apparently, SD feared being contaminated with Baía's "frangalhada", so it's understandable they bought them! :p

Also, does anyone know how many years ago was the last time we beat Porto twice in the championship? I certainly don't remember it happening since I watch football (1991/1992 season).

That was before the renewal, now the "clásula de rescisão" must be several times more.

1-0, Manuel Fernandes bomb!

I meant, Robert... :lui:

My analysis:

It must be similiar to all others analysis, we didn't played that good, but still better than porto...

Now...

(Y):

Manuel Fernandes, putted Lucho Gonzalez in his pocket, what a player , he will certainly be one of the best midfielders in the world, he has everything. What a fantastic player!!!

Léo... no words, i'm ******* surprised with him, never thought he could be that good, he also shows a fighting spirit that no other player has. Just great!!

Luisão the usual....

Alcides was very good, although i prefer Nélson, he played very well, defending and attacking also.

and Baía (H)

(N):

Nuno Gomes was just ... :| WTF? He has that first chance on the first half that is scandalous... and 2 or 3 balls in the second half that could gave dangerous counter attacks if his passing wasn't so bad... Still, there's no need to say he's bad only for this game... It happens to have a bad game once in a while...

And to finish it!

I heard on the radio the last time was 30-something years ago! Another record for Co...

SCP19O6: Yeah, I know, but with Sporting's agreement you can sell him for less money. Every one has his own judgement, but I think it's better to sell a player than selling estate.
