I watched The Counselor and it is probably the worst movie I have seen at least over the last year, if not more. I'm hugely disappointed because Fassbender, Pitt with a script by Cormac McCarthy and directed by Ridley Scott should at least be entertaining. This was boring and painful to the point that Penelope Cruz was not actually detrimental to it. It's like McCarthy wanted every character to be Horatio from CSI Miami and they all had these SUUUUPER profound one-liners to awe their screen buddies with. Then they actually spent 5 minutes on Carmen Diaz fucking a car (and treated it like a dramatic borderline tragic event) and it was just awful all the way through.

chygry might like it though.

IS IT NOT ABSOLUTELY FUCKING TERRIBLE!?!?! I was so disappointed by it, I saw it in the cinema when it first came out so I didnt have time to be forewarned by the negative reviews, everything about the recipe made it seem like it should be awesome, but nothing worked at all. The Diaz-Car scene was actually my favourite part because it was the only time my mental state switched from boredom.... to disgust. The ultimate example of the total being far, far less than the sum of it's parts. The ultimate omelette movie.

And I'm positive that they thought the dialogue was nouveau Tarantino. It was like a shitty pretentious school play with a multimillion budget.

I might like it? Yeah I hoped I would like it when I went to see it. Utter disappointment. Scene after scene and nothing really happening, the director trying to make it more than it should have been. I agree with you guys.

I'm not going to post every movie that I've seen here lately, but the standouts would be eh.. Hmm..

Harsh Times (2005) - A bit like Training Day but better.

Relatos salvajes (Wild Tales) (2014) - A movie I randomly came across by is this Argentina one. If you can call it a movie by the normal picture standards. It's a collection of short movies (5-7 not sure), not related to each other, but very very good. The only things that those short movies have in common are a bit of violence, people being not socially equal, revenge and what I liked about it the most, black humour. Worth a watch.

Hahaha love this phrase. Is it an actual phrase or did you just use it then?

I'm forever stressing to people when it comes to food how more isn't more. Jules' brother is the quest for it. He thinks the more flavours he likes that he puts together, the better.

Jules and me always refer to these type of things as mocha instead of omelettes, but both make sense. We both love chocolate and love coffee. But adding the two to each other detracts from both...

Anyway, yeah movies.

I just invented it, though actually I think I got the omelette as the ultimate example of a total far less than the sum of its parts idea from you.

I think that I have recently taken a big step forward in my own cooking ability in that I have stepped back from over complicating - I used to think the more elaborate, the more skills required, the more flavours/complicated ingredients etc the better, and whilst this type of cooking does have it's place when you want to impress, as you say generally the finest meals are marked by their simplicity. A good cook can do complicated process after complicated process and build ever more elaborate dishes, a great cook knows when to stop.

EDIT: I do enjoy a mocha from time to time, however

That's probably because you're English, and English people don't appreciate good coffee. People that don't enjoy good coffee out chocolate in it so that they like it more.

Vanilla and caramel both compliment coffee more.

I'm getting side tracked so going to continue this in the food thread.

Watched Fast and Furious last week, it's pretty good. I wanted the Rock to be involved more. There will be F&F 8 after all...

Some people have something against Affleck and I don't get that. The Batman vs Superman trailer looks good.

Xaviesta you just have a bad taste in movies, except one, I think I remember you enjoying Reign Over Me, which is quality. I could recommend you lots of good ones!

Because you watch movies like Fast y Furious, I mean you'd have to be really bored to watch something like that. Maybe I overexaggerated, but still. I haven't seen any good ones lately either. Waiting for the next Bond movie! :P

Xaviesta arguing with chyrgy about who has bad taste in movies is kind of like Ron Jeremy arguing with David Hasselhoff about who has bad taste in haircuts.
