I can't believe you guys watch that crap. I guess Paranormal Activity and Insidious aren't awful pieces of crap, but I don't understand why one would watch that instead of a comedy. The only horror movie that I would watch more than once is Scream, because it's funny and self aware.

These movies are an extension of semi-watchable chick flicks. I personally hate horror films and wouldn't really watch one alone as I can pretty much predict when the "scary" parts are coming in almost every more I've watched...

@J:

yeah, I've watched those great classics ... that spiderwalk down the stairs from "The Exorcist" was a genuinely jarring scene ...

have you watched Raimi's "Evil Dead"? how would you compare "Drag Me to Hell" in terms of tone and style?
Haven't seen Evil Dead, so I'm not sure how it compares. Drag Me to Hell does have comedic elements, it's a very tragic story in a funny and amusing way. You come to pity this poor, poor girl.

I only watch a handful of horror movies every year, usually around this time of year. I wouldn't buy a ticket to go see one in a movie theatre, I agree most of them are all too predictable and mediocre. I remember disliking Paranormal Activity as well. The main attraction and buzz in the case of that movie (and Saw, The Blair Witch Project...) was that it was so ''scary'' despite of its low budget.

Heh i actually went to see it with someone, because i got the tickets for free. Otherwise i wouldn't have. It wasn't that bad. Back in 08 or 09, can't remember. The last "horror movie" i saw i think. The reviews were promising as well so that's mostly what motivated me plus another thing. :P

Since i've literally got nothing to watch again, i've lately seen only one film i hadn't seen before.

Deux jours, une nuit (Two Days One Night) - Marion Cotillard was brilliant in it like she's always in her movies. But the movie itself was a disappointing. After 10 minutes of watching i already knew what it would be like and how it was going to end, and i wasn't wrong. Wouldn't recommmend.

Then i decided to watch some classics that i hadn't seen in a long time.

Carlito's Way - A Brian De Palma film with Al Pacino, great. Those who haven't seen it should definitely watch it.

Goodfellas - Absolute classic. I just love Scorcese's movies.

Interstellar - Great movie. I didn't realize it was three hours long since it was so well made. Christopher Nolan is a great director.

Boyhood. Loved it, though it did feel a little anti-climatic to me. I guess I'm just too used to Hollywood endings

That the one where it's literally the same actor going through 12 years of his life? Imagine if Steve McQueen was that thorough. (H)

Yeah, that's the one. Same cast filmed over a long period

I have just seen the best film of the year. Birdman. Absolute masterpiece, really fantastic. And if you need a higher recommendation, chyrgy would hate it. You must see this movie.

Yeah I've been meaning to watch it, heard good things.

Interstellar.

It's been getting stick but I loved it. Only seen it once but I think it has jumped to number 2 on my Nolan list just below (and not that below) The Prestige.

Oh visually it's outstanding. People are getting tied up in plot debates but even that I think is pretty great. It's not perfect or flawless but again, I liked even more than Inception or Memento, for example. I have more thoughts but I'll wait for you guys to watch it to so I don't spoil anything.

Whoa whoa whoa... wait a minute. This is definitely the movie i'm looking forward to the most. Discovered it about a month ago and can't wait to see it. I've loved each of Iñárritu's movies, and while i've heard this is a little different from his previous work, i _very much_ doubt i'll hate it.

Will go see it 100%!

The trailer did nothing for me, but that gives me a film to watch on my day off. I'll check back tomorrow.
