For a dangerous play you get an indirect, for normal fouls a direct. Paparesta whistled for Chiellini coming in with a straight leg, so, dangerous play.

...huh :| so if I were to intentionally kick a player in the face on the edge of the box while he momentarily had a breakaway, they'd get an indirect?

No, only if it's dangerous play without fouling the player.

Chiellini 100% got the ball, but he went in with a straight leg, which is dangerous play.

Get it? :( It's confusing stuff.

Wasn't a straight leg though, so wrong call by Paparesta in the first place.

ok meaning from wikipedia

INDIRECT FREE KICK

An indirect free kick is awarded to the opposing team when a player commits a foul other than a penal foul (e.g. dangerous play) or infringes certain technical requirements of the laws (e.g. touching the ball a second time following a restart). An indirect free kick is also awarded to the opposing team when play is stopped to caution or send-off a player when no specific foul has occurred (e.g. when play is stopped to caution a player for dissenting the decision of the referee).

Unlike a direct free kick, an offence punishable by an indirect free kick does not result in a penalty kick when it occurs in the penalty area, rather it continues to be taken as an indirect free kick

DIRECT FREE KICK

A direct free kick is awarded to the opposing team when a player commits a penal foul, for example pushing or tripping an opponent. However, if the offence was committed within the fouling team's penalty area, the kick becomes a penalty kick.

yup juventino by the meaning i gave that fits in well. so yeah it was given dangerous play i guess coz of the fact that the studs were up. but still shouldnt have been given as chiellini hardly touched the inter player.

great win (H)

Adriano "scores", Mancini celebrates, Don Fabio just shakes the finger, learn the rules before you decide to manage

so I guess I'm the only one that thought the freekick that gave the win to Juve was a blatant dive.
it was a dive, but cordoba putting his leg there didn't help, and about 1 minute earlier he'd also had a little hissy fit to the ref

hahaha Capello's expression when Adriano "scored" was indeed priceless (H). What the hell was Adriano thinking taking a direct freekick anyway?

Juve started off very strongly and it worried me when they didn't convert possession into a goal. Then Inter got into the game and Juve scored. Great cross by Camo who had been playing very well all night and then a nice finish by Ibra who got between two defenders. Thats goals in consequetive games for him.

After Samuel scored I thought it was gonna be a draw for sure. But what a wonderful freekick by Del Piero. He is having a great season. Definitely the most on form Juventus player at the moment.

I thought Juve's defense held up pretty well today. Thuram had a great game. Chiellini was a worry for me before the game but he looked alright. He shut Figo and Veron up. Emerson and Vieira had their usual beastly presence in midfield.

Despite not scoring, I like the fact that Capello left Trezeguet out there for the 90 and subbed Zlatan for DP and Camo for Mutu... all attacking substitutions .. showing the intent to win and not settle for the draw.

Even if Juve had lost it wouldn't have changed anything but now it just ensures that the media will shut up. Always good to do the double on Inter.

Speaking on Inter, I'm not sure they will even hold on to 3rd place let alone 2nd. Milan will definitely overtake them and maybe Fiorentina will as well. Moggi's comments seem flattering now don't they? This result certainly represents a big egg in the face of Mancini and the rest of the Inter organization. But hey... they're used to it.

Disappointed to see that no one praised Thuram. What a wall. It´s an used cliché but it´s true, it´s like a good Port wine, the older the better. Chiellini did put the shackle on Figo but he kinda made it up by that wonderful corner assist to Samuel (old Real Madrid connection :P).
In the end of the match, the real TEAM (emphasis on that word) with an identity beat the team of stars of sporadic individual plays and no group cohesion. Juve is clearly the best team in Italy and there are no doubt´s about it.

inter fans on these forums i must congratulate you all. you inter fans are the only fans to congratulate juve and their fans based on team effort and dominance of who was best on the pitch. i have been to goal.com and soccerpulse and read inter fans saying its all juve getting the refs attention blah blah. thank you for appreciating the talent which is juve.

Juve, best team is Italy? No doubt about that.
But I would say, Juve is a serious candidate, if not the most, to this year CL, I have them in my bets in front of Chelsea and Barcelona since the 1/8...they are even better than last season. They have 12 points of advantage...they can manage that and concentrate on CL.

paparesta...

one clear pk denied to juve (when samuel nailed cannavaro on the face with his elbow).
another one where viera got pushed by someone on a corner, but that one was hard to see.
samuel should have been send off after that stupid takle on ibrahimovic. but no, he got to stay and score a goal while zlatan had to sit down with a huge red bruise on his leg.
chiellini's "dangerous play" from where adriano's "goal" (how dumb was he?) came wasnt even a foul.
cordoba deserved a yellow after throwing the ball away while complaining about a foul called on nedved.

on the other hand, emerson deserved a yellow on a tackle against cambiasso i think it was.
the foul from which ale's goal came was a foul. yeah, nedved accentuated the fall, but nonetheless, cordoba placed his foot in front of nedved making him lose his balance.
dont remember anything else.

but still, after this, people still have the nerve to say juve pays the reffs or gets "favors". doesnt seem the case to me.

couldn't agree more... i'd like to elaborate on some of those points..

Yes, Vieira was clearly pushed... and not just pushed.. he was taken out from a position where he would have been able to get a header during that corner. Cambiasso I think it was.

Speaking of Cambiasso, he is one more player who should have been booked. I can't pin point one incident but he deserved a yellow for the accumulated fouls... couple of which were cynical.

Then of course, like clau said, Samuel should have been sent off. His reaction to the foul on Camoranesi clearly suggested that he had no intention to do anything but take out the player. What an asshole really.

Then Chiellini's challenge that led to Adriano's freekick was perfect. His studs were down and he got the ball way before he made contact with the player.

I don't understand what was up with the Inter players... Everyone was so unsportsman like. Cordoba throwning the ball in disgust for what? It was a clear foul. Even Adriano was being a dick.

They over-celebrated both times and seemed so irate out there. I'm so glad Materazzi wasn't involved. I'm sure Juve would have come off with a serious injury at the very least had been there.. One good thing to come out of the "no italians in the starting 11" pocily that Inter have going..

The way inter overracted with the referee's decision to give that freekick scares me. Theres so much pressure on the referee each time Juve walks out that they lose out on quite a few decisions which would go their way if they weren't Juve. I'm positive that the only reason the fouls on Cannavaro and Vieira weren't called is because everyone would go ape**** if he handed a spot kick to Juve. There was so much work to be done even after the freekick. Its not a penalty. They are completely forgetting that Del Piero scored a magnificent goal. And like you said clau.. it WAS A FOUL. Nedved did what he needed to. He was looking for the foul and he got it. He fell with minimum contact but there was enough contact to warrant a foul. I'm sure Inter would feel screwed if they suffered a similar foul and didn't get a freekick.

I can understand if its just the fans who are making a big deal out of it. The fact that Mancini, Figo and the rest are making noise is unbelievable. Figo should revert back to his Madrid days and recall all the decisions that went his club's way then.

Inter are living in a imaginary world where they believe they are the best. To be able to maximize your output, you should know your limitations. They think they are unbeatable and never deserve to lose. Every loss is blamed on anything but themselves. They sit at home, pity themselves and blame everything from the referee to the weather instead of looking at where they went wrong. I hope Milan, Fiorentina and even Roma overtake them.

Forza Juve.
