yeah should be a badass match dispite being a friendly (Y)

btw the next match is Wednesday, not Thursday...sorry for that.

and I've just read that Lucho is as much as gone :(
but Mariano Gonzalez is arriving today (Monday) to do the medicals and hopefully sign a contract, so at least there's something to cheer for.

Tosiek

Słowiańska Dusza
Mariano Gonzalez seems to be a quality signing for Porto. I saw him a few times at Palermo and Inter lately. The lack of Lucho in midfield will be a big loss, but I hope Kaz will fulfill that empty space. (Y)

Also, I have to admit FC Porto have an awesome official site. It's easy in navigation, there's no need to have an account to view any pictures and other stuff. Simply and effective (Y)

Starting XI

I wonder why Drogba mentioned our interest, we probably can't even afford his underwear.
would be our greatest move ever after Jardel though :D

btw Funkmeister, I understand your pain. you seriously need that sig change asap (H)

Palermo's Mariano Gonzalez signed today, year loan with buying option at the end of the season for 2M € and a 3 year deal with player.
hopefully he's as good as Anthony says, we really needed a quality winger coming our way.

he denied any contact from us:

these are the other CB rumours so far:
Luizão (Cruzeiro)
Milan Stepanov (Trabzonspor)
Onyewu (Newcastle)
Van Damme (H) (Anderlecht)

if we end up getting VD, the next step has got to be the signing of The Norris.

Filipower

Bunburyist
Van Damme is kind of a FM06/07 legend..anyway i want a ******* rock at the back..not a "xabalito que sabe cortar bolas"...come on, we got 30 million for pepe, we can do better than onyewu

can't really think about a good CB Fili, the ones I wonder about are already taken by richer teams :(
we'll eventually get someone good enough for the spot though...

the match against Genk just ended and we lost 1-0, Bruno Alves got sent of by the half hour because of an elbow :kader:
we could have ended the first half winning but we didn't take our chances, then in the second period we tried to get the draw but Genk didn't leave much space at the back and with a man down a comeback would be a difficult task to achieve.

still it was nice watching some of the new players in action, especially Fernando did extremely well as our RB (Y)

waiting anxiously for the game against Monaco, Lima and Mariano will be playing for the first time with our shirt and who knows there might be surprises coming :shades:

I was in Genk at the game (videoclips to follow) and I try to concur but just can't. Really, this guy is no Porto material.

My match review cross-posted from the FC Porto-World forum:

Was in Genk today (don't worry, I'll have some videoclips up and running on youtube tomorrow) and have the following to say before I go to bed:

On a negative note:
- This team clearly needs to gel together and the new faces need some more time to get in the right pace of things
- Our defence is a mess. Period. We really need a classy CB to take things under control. And no, Pepe having left is not the cause: Fernando, Lino etc. ARE NO PLAYERS OF PORTO CLASS. A second period. Luckily these guys won't see much first team action this season.
- The following players were disappointing: Bruno Alves (why do we keep this guy around?), Jorginho, Quaresma (had 2-3 opponents around him at all time; his flashes of genius were true genius, though), Cech (big fan of him but seemed out of place at times), the above mentioned Fernando & Lino, Adriano (how many clear goal scoring opportunities can you miss?)

On a positive note:
- No Pepe in the team
- A strong will to perform well and to proof something was shown throughout the game.
- I actually liked the work our midfield put up. Always active and creating attacking impulses. I liked it a lot.
- The following players captivated me: Bosingwa (big presence on the right), Assunção (the more I see him play, the more I'd like to have his baby), Nuno (I never thought highly of him but today he showed to be a decent temporary replacement for Helton), Bollati (showed great gusto in the defensive line)

In short: we need two players (CB and striker) and we need a bit more time to get this team in shape.
I don't take this game vs Genk very serious as we were 'handicapped' by the absence of several players and because of the many substitutions. I liked our first half a lot, thought the second half was mediocre.

ok Taj you didn't like Fernando, but you thought Bosingwa was great on the right.
thing is Fernando played the whole match in the right so I reckon the "big presence on the right" you were refering to was directed at him...since Bosingwa didn't even play :p
btw Fernando is a DM, Jesualdo has been using him as the RB because we don't have Fucile with the team yet.

I disagree with several points from your review but it's all good, different views on the game I guess...

in other news, we are being linked with Nunes from Mallorca now.
Milan Stepanov from Trabzonspor seems most likely to join us though, their president inclusively confirmed a "verbal" offer coming from us...

Sorry, my bad. Was told by one of the SD Holanda members it was JBos on the right, with Fernando having taken over in the second half.

so the truth is you loved Fernando in the first half and hated him in the second, mistery solved ;)
I also think he was better in the first period, but so was the whole team...the sending off really took the game away from us.

well, we had to agree on something :D

seems like Stepanov will be presented Saturday in the match against Monaco and Postiga really is leaving for Levante.
we'll spend 4M on Stepanov and get 4M for Postiga so our budget will suffer no damage (H)

these are 99% confirmed since this is oJogo's cover:

they also mention Nunes, but we don't really need 5 CBs in the squad, 4 should be enough...

First off: some vids from the Genk vs Porto game

And secondly:

Look at what the delivery man brought me this morning right before I went of to work:

On Stepanov: don't know what to think of him. Heard some good things about the guy and MaisFutebol had the following to say after the Serbia vs Portugal U21 game about him

Sounds good enough to me

Seems we're also on the brink of signing Farias from River Plate to strenghten our striker position

nice vids Tajike, short but loud crowd (H)
and the shirt looks good, tomorrow we'll finally get to watch it in action :bob:

about Stepanov, all I know about him is what I saw last year in the U-21 tournament and I must say I agree with that review from maisfutebol (H) lets hope he confirms all the expectations...

Farias should be the forward we need, I got to see him with River a few times and he really showed he can score goals.
though his experience in Europe was with Palermo where he scored 0 goals in 13 matches :(

the match against Monaco just ended, we won 2-1 with Lisandro and Postiga scoring for us and Pino for Monaco.
pretty boring match which didn't surprise, both teams are yet to reach form...nice to watch some of the new players in action though, even if they didn't do very well except for maybe Bolatti who really seems to be pure quality (Y)

the new kits as expected were in action tonight, we were gonna wear the away one in the second half but during HT the referee decided that it could be mixed with Monaco's so the players had to use the home shirt again, even if with the away shorts

will post some pics as soon as they're available :shades:
