Eto'o can't leave. It simply can't happen.
Chivu is more than needed:
- Puyol can't defend by himself, we do need a second CB
- Thuram is too slow for our style of football and the Camp Nou is sometimes too big for him so we definitely need another quality defender. I don't want to depend on Lilian.
- Rafa had a horrible season, so obviously we can't depend on him neither.
- Puyol will miss the start of the season due to injury
- If we don't sign another DM, Rafa could sometimes be moved there to try to cover for Yaya should he not be available, so Chivu will be very useful.
I think Chivu will come to Barcelona, and I have no doubts he will get more than enough playing time. He won't suffer with us, that's certain. He will only win titles and be part of one of the most attractive teams ever to play the game. He can only benefit in the blaugrana, and I can't wait for someone as good as him to join us.
Besides, isn't he also an LB? He will get more than enough chances, everyone will play.

Milan want Motta. It seems we are pushing our luck trying to negotiate a good deal. I don't know why we're doing that since
- Motta isn't good enough to bring us a good deal, even 5M would be great for him IMO
- we don't need the man, and the goal is to sell him for whatever price, so we don't have to pay his wages
Just sell him, the price doesn't matter. I know we usually sell players too cheaply, but this one really should go one way or the other, so I would just accept any offer that comes in.

Abidal was bought for 15M, and I hope we also have to pay additional fees because those will occur in case we win the CL in the next four years. He'll have Saviola's former number. The first page has been updated.

The CB signing is taking too long compared to the others. Chivu is now more complicated and Juventus are trying to sign Milito. I hope Barça can sign one of them. It's the last piece that we need.

Appartently Barca and Inter pulled off I think we should contact Zaragoza and offer them the 20M. Where's the harm in that? We'll fork out that sum sooner or later, so better do it now, on a proven player before he signs for Juventus. Otherwise, we'll have to search the market for someone else, and even if we do end up paying less, it will be on a less talented defender, so why the holdup? Give Zaragoza the money they want, since Milito really wants to play for us. In his case we don't have to fear the player's demands, he'll be easy to negotiate with and he has a desire to play for FC Barcelona. This is crystal clear for me, and hopefully it is for Txiki and Ferran, too.
We can't not buy a CB, IMO. I don't want another season of relying on Thuram and Marquez, and I don't really care how fantastic the Mexican is in the Copa America. I'm only interested in his blaugrana performances, and until he excels there, I want to have an alternative.

**** milito and **** chivu, andrade is our man mates, milito is mainly a dirty sob and chivu is very prone to injurys not to mention i think he is very overrated, i dont know whats the point and fuzz fighting for chivu, i dont consider him any better than marquez, and btw for any of you who havent seen the copa america recently , marquez is the best cb by the press in the first 2 matches in the tournament , and believe you me, hes is back, hes been tremendously awesome, comanding and his timing is back too...., so i think its does matter how he is doing in the copa america, at least he is having more activity than chivu and we are getting a good view whats going on with him ... rijkaard already mention he counts with him and edmilson for next season... one bad season agaisnt 3 good ones by marquez deserves better by us, i would put my hands in the fire for him over chivu and milito any day.

I get your point but I disagree. I'm in the middle, between you and Vedran. If we can't get Milito or Chivu, I hope we don't get someone else because it would be a waste. I'd rather stick with Márquez and Thuram. But I do think we need a defender who can play on the left. We've been playing with Puyol on the left for years but that's not his natural position. Milito is worth the effort.
Like Vedran, I don't really trust the performances in the NT. Ronaldinho was never too good with Brasil. Puyol or Casillas are other examples.

i really like andrade, he has more of a phisique than puyol, marquez, milito and chivu, he is better in the air and faster than all of them too, he maybe not have the timing that puyol has or the vision to go upfront that marquez and chivu have, but he compensates that with his strenght and stanima, but most importantly he has the better "la liga" experience in comparison with chivu and milito, i read in the madrid thread a post by socrates were he mentions about calcio defenders coming to spain and that most of them fail, and i agree, dont know why but it happens , must be the diferent styles of play i guess, i just dont like defenders coming from the calcio either, maybe zambrotta could be the exception , but he made some huge errors too last season that cost us points.
so all in all i am in agreement we get a new cb, the who well that its never up to us, i just hope its andrade, and if we have to bench marquez so be it, we just cant get rid of him, he could be very useful.
Well, I don't see Milito's aggressiveness as a con, but rather a pro. I think we need some more "bad guys" in Barca. I want players who can tackle the hell out of the opposition, because the players we have either don't tackle very much or are not very good at it.
The defenders who come to La Liga from Serie A mostly fail because in Italy the style is defensive and every defender has good cover from the DMs. In Spain, the midfielders are a little less defensive so the CBs are often left one-on-one with an attacker which almost never happens in Italy. With the DMs that play in Serie A: Gattuso, Vieira, Cambiasso, Ambrosini etc every defender has an easier job, but in our league all of them are exposed and that's a situation they're not used to. They're all great zone defenders, but when they have to man mark because there's no one else to help them, it's
a problem because La Liga has the best offensive players in the world.
Personally, I'm happy with Zambrotta. Considering the fact he came from Italy to the most offensive-minded team on the planet, and he actually did ok despite the bad season by most players on the team, I would hate to see him leave. I have faith that he'll again be the best fullback in the world.
I agree we shouldn't get rid of Rafa, but rather give him the benefit of the doubt because he did have very good seasons with us. However, I don't want to depend on him playing well. I know he's a great player, but great players don't always meet expectations and I don't want to risk another season of having a slow Thuram and an underperforming Marquez as the only options for the second CB position. It's too risky, simple as that.

In Italy they defend way deeper than in Spain. In Spain most defenders are at the half line all the time. Thats why Samuel struggled at Real. Thats why Cannavaro struggled at the beginning of the season. Because they have acres of space behind them and they arent used to that.big al;2355287 said:
