Scholes Ready For Swiss Battle
Paul Scholes looks to have won his race to be fit for England's crucial Group B match against Switzerland on Thursday.
Scholes suffered a twisted ankle in the 2-1 defeat to France on Sunday, and Sven Goran Eriksson rated him as having only a 50/50 chance of making England's second game of the tournament after he missed training on Monday and Tuesday.
But the 29-year-old midfielder came through Wednesday's session unscathed and is now ready to take his place in the starting eleven against the Swiss on Thursday.
Speaking at a news conference in Coimbra, Sven-Goran Eriksson said of Scholes' progress: "He will be fit for the game. He did everything in training on Wednesday and will be okay for the match. It is very good news for us."
Gary Neville also picked up a knock in England's first match but is still set to start against Switzerland.
Eriksson admitted he has to pick his squad up after the disappointment of losing in such devastating fashion against the French.
"It's difficult to understand why we lost the game," he said. "I can remember only two other games that finished in such a way; Manchester United's game against Bayern Munich, and the Italy-France match in Euro 2000."
