is Libertad a good team? like who are there playmakers? I hope they good far in the CL. Nacional gave a nice effort :)

Libertad is a good team but for some reason they always struggle in international competitions. They have two good forwards, the uruguayan Rodrigo Lopez (who won the libertadores in 2002 with Olimpia) and Roberto Gamarra, then Riveros is a good playmaker and a young promise for paraguayan football. Libertad also have the former Boca player Javier Villarreal in their squad so I think they might do a good job this year.
Oh, and btw Libertad has a peruvian player too, Hidalgo, but I think he's injured right now.

Anyone can say something about the brazilian teams in this edition of the Libertadores...?

Sao Paulo, is the last champion of course and the favourite team...but what about the rest.?
Corinthians managed to keep their better players, plus they've signed Ricardinho from Santos... if Roger and Mascherano get back well from their injuries, the team will be challenging for the title, though maybe they need someone better as a GK (Fabio Costa is gone, the starter is a 20yrs old guy. They did sign Johnny Herrera though... never heard of him before, just know that he's Tapia's sub... which can't be a good thing, since Tapia failed at Santos)

Palmeiras made decent signings in Edmundo and Paulo Baier, though maybe their team is a bit old... They do have a good team, and they are leading the regional championship winning all their matches so far though.. and in Emerson Leao they have the best coach in Brazil

Internacional is decent, they probably should have been national champions last year. Rafael Sobis is awesome, and if they manage to keep him (Corinthians want him) they should be a major force, though they lack international experience

Goias had a great run in the league last year, but they couldn't keep their best players.. it'd be a surprise to see them doing well...

Paulista is very happy to be where they are... they're in the second division, and got their place through the cup... I can't see them getting many points

Sao Paulo is playing poorly at the moment... with Amoroso, Cicinho, Grafite all going to Europe, they are yet to find decent replacements, though young attacker Tiago seems to be very promising... also, with Lugano and Ceni, they aren't that bad in their defence too... their major loss though since the last year's competition was Emerson Leao...

I guess I didn't forget anyone...

I think it's crap that a team like Paulista can play in the Copa Libertadores. Winning the cup should give them a place in the sudamericana instead of the CL.

No, you're wrong. Palmeiras is the best team today. Seven games, seven victories in two championships. Sunday, we'll beat São Paulo and we'll make history again. Eight games, eight victories. Yesterday, we beat Deportivo Táchira and we'll play on the Group 7 which has Atlético Nacional, Cerro Porteño and Rosario Central. It's a very tough group, but Palmeiras will succeed. Bye.

That's up to personal opinion, really... imho, Sao Paulo, Palmeiras and Corinthians are quite equal, and in a match between 2 of those teams, I can't really say who'd win... Last year, São Paulo was a notch above Corinthians, and Palmeiras was a bit behind them, though it all changed when Leao left Sao Paulo and then went to Palmeiras... now I think they're all at the same level...

Sure the seven victories are impressive, but they haven't faced any real opposition... Tachira, Santista, Mogi Mirim, Sao Bento, Marilia, Ituano are hardly a test case.... if they beat Sao Paulo Sunday though I may change my opinion

So, set you for disappointment. Palmeiras will win. Você é de São Carlos? Eu moro no interior de São Paulo também, entre Presidente Prudente e Marília.

heh, believe me, I wouldn't be a bit disappointed if Sao Paulo lost... actually, I do want them to lose so that maybe they'll be relegated... I never liked them, never will... though I have to admit their side is quite good... not the same without Cicinho and Amoroso, though still a tough team to beat when they hit form, and in the Libertadores (they seem to get strenght from nowhere when they play the tournament...)

Yeah, I live in Sao Carlos, and it's nice to have other people from "interior"...

Friday's games:

Independiente Santa Fe
0 Defensor Sporting

Independiente Santa Fe qualifies to group 2.

0 Oriente Petrolero
2 River Plate

As thought, River qualifies to group 8.

It's interesting to see that Chivas was included in the poll on the Conmebol site, of who is the favorite to win the tournament.
Starting to get some respect finally?

The Libertadores will now really begin on next Tuesday.
Don't miss it, it's a great tournament!

It'll be a fun tournament to watch indeed, despite the lack of some of the 'regulars' in the Copa such as Boca, Penarol and Olimpia.
So far River looks unstoppable

Oh well... it seems Palmeiras is back to reality with today's 4-2 loss against Sao Paulo.... Sure, in a derby things can go both ways, but claiming a 100% record as a proof they're a better side sure has gone down the drain...

Today's results 02/08:

0 Rocha FC (URUGUAY)
0 Universitario (PERU)

1 Bolívar (BOLIVIA)
0 Estudiantes LP (ARGENTINA)

1 Liga Dep. Universitaria (ECUADOR)
3 Vélez Sarsfield (ARGENTINA)

Game's weren't transmitted today, frackin baseball!

Did see the highlights though, and looks like Velez had a great game.

Tomorrow should be interesting, three Mexican teams against three very different South-American sides.

I don't think Pumas can get a win, Nacional should be able to hold themselves in Montevideo, plus they need the three points, on the comeback in the altitude of Mexico City it will be very difficult to get even a point.

Tigres did not take their first team to Chile, what was Tuca Ferreti thinking?
They're missing six of their starters, but don't think they're not dangerous anymore, they still have a quality side, with the Chileno Sebastian "Chamagol" Gonzales at the front.

I don't know about Chivas, "Bofo" Bautista is back, he will significantly improve our counterattacks. If Cienciano makes the same mistake as Colo Colo did at home, and don't watch their backs well, I think we might get a good result.
But I can't predict anything, I still need to se Cienciano play.

1st Half
1 Nacional
0 Pumas

Pumas are playing real bad, maybe it's just alittle diguised by the 4-4-2 linu-up, but they're not doing anything on the field.
They do have most of the key players in the bench though, their star goalkeeper Bernal, and their best defender and most experienced player Beltran, and a couple of key play-makers.

How is this National not stepping all over in this game is beyond me, they seem alittle too cautios on a Pumas that would get trashed in the Mexican Tournament. They even have Victorino playing, the Serie C reject. I have nothing againt the guy, but he just doesn't deserve to playing at this level, he's done nothing so far in the game. Pumas' forwards are on the same story, they're good, but they just can't do nothing with-out real midfield backing.

National should win, unless Pumas makes some tactical changes for the second half.

Blocked out the painful memories, eh?

We deserved to have won by more. Just our luck, getting the only linesmen in the world with good eyesight.

I'm curious as to why Pumas' played a reserve team though. Did they consider us pushovers, or don't they care for the cup?

2 Nacional
0 Pumas

I felt asleep during the second half...

Does Pumas really think they will win something with this team?
Trying out new players on Libertadores.
That's just bad, I think Marionni said it best with his expression at the 80th minute.

1st Half
2 Universidad Catolica
1 Tigres

3 goals in seven minutes.
Looking good.
