Paulista 2-1 River (H) :lui: :rockman: :fool:

Evidently River got a problem playing as away this year, probably it may be more humillating this time because after all it was a second division team that got safe from not getting relegated to the third division. Guess if there was an Argentinian cup it could be more common to see second division teams beating first division ones. I mean after all right before the Libertadores Los Andres(a third division team of Argentina) won over Independiente Sta. Fe Bogota. Estudiantes drew and still has chances make it too.

Yes guys, São Paulo is not the same it was last year. Good victory of Chivas.

Didn't get to see the game but what a huge result, its the first time Sao Paulo lose at home in the Libertadores in 19 years from what I've heard. (H) If there's one thing that sucks though, its the fact that we're having another good run in the tournament but we'll lose about half of the starting lineup yet again due to an international competition. :nape:

The best in the world?
Two times defeated, with a 100% mexican team.
They're not the best in the world, as they lost to Liverpool 3-1 in Japan.

hehe I was laughing so hard at the bambis' lame attempts of making the game harsh, throwing elbows all over...

And I know people here worship Lugano... he's a great defender... but he went berserk yesterday... he should've been sent off... twice... and also Fabao... funnily the only player to be sent off was a Chivas' one...

To be fair to them though, they did outplay Chivas, though never managed to create dangerous opportunities, and Chivas found their goals in counter attacks, when the defence fell asleep...

Sao Paulo hadn't lost at Morumbi in 19 years (30 matches)... Well done Chivas, though here's hoping you don't win it.... (but if you manage to meet the bambis again, please do knock them out...)

Counting disallowed goals is like counting goals that "could've" gone in if [insert any reason here]... it's pointless, cuz in the end, Sao Paulo won. Mexican ref disallowing 3 goals. (Y) (H) haha

Of course I'm just having a laugh here, but it's not exactly like they COULD have gone in, as they DID go in...

and in the end they won because those goals weren't counted... I mean, surely you can't expect to score 3 goals and they all be disallowed... I don't remember a single match where that happened... not even when they were good calls, which wasn't the case (haha) in Japan...

But, as you mentioned it's pointless, after all, it's a pointless tournament in a pointless place, with a pointless winner...

it's yours to lose really... though you'll have to learn how to get results away, I do think you're the favs...

Corinthians are struggling, Sao Paulo isn't what it was last year, Inter, Palmeiras and Goias are in it for fun, not to win it... but if you get to play the brazilians, just try to unsettle them by talking a lot and get them angry... after the 2 or 3 red cards, just play decent football and you're through...

It leaves you and the mexican sides... who can't go to Japan (unless they've changed the rules and I'm not aware of it)

IMO we aren't candidates...If we had our squad 100% maybe...

In the Monumental we are very strong...we won all games, most of them scoring 3 or more goals...we must improve a lot in our away performances...but on the other hand, if you lose 1-2 in the away game, you have a lot of chances of pass to the next round...

I think Sao Paulo, Chivas and maybe Velez, Corinthians are the candidates...but the Libertadores always have a lot of surprises...

I cant believe that Lavolpe call up most of the players of Chivas...ok, its the National Team, but chivas is the best mexican team in years and they have a real chance of winning for the first time the Libertadores... :kader:

Corinthians can be out tonight (ok, not really out, but if they lose and Tigres win, they'll need a result combination to go through) if they win though, they'll be very strong to go to next stage...

Its sad that Toluca never got a chance to play this cup between 98-2002. We wouldve def been contenders. But no, the champions dont get to play the Libertadores, we have to play the CONCACAF Champions Cup. :nape:

Yes, Palmeiras is searching for fun. The fun to be group leader and champion again. :ewan:

yeah, like the fun they had when they trounced Sao Paulo earlier...

Do you really think Palmeiras are going to win it? with the way they're playing?

3-0 to Paulista?

Sure, they lead the group... but when you're facing Rosario, Nacional (COL) and Cerro, you can't really be all that excited...

But then again Cerro Porteño and Rosario Central have been quite dodgy in the libertadores. Atlético Nacional could be a different case on that group. I still think that Vélez is a clear candidate, also could be Estudiantes and River if they settle down some stuff and also you got Libertad the venezuelan teams who seem be waking up.

Sure, maybe I wrote the wrong words... I meant that leading in a group with a dodgy Cerro, a below average Rosario and Nacional, isn't really something to be really excited about...

as for Velez and Libertad, while good teams, I don't think they'll win the Libertadores... but then again, I never thought Once Caldas would be able to get far, and they went on to win the title...

We aren't contenders any more.
With our five best players gone to the world cup (though it could had been worst, we could had lost up to 8!).

Take away Sao Paulo's best five players, or River's best five.
They don't stand a chance.

I'm not really mad about this, I've been waiting for a while to get to see some of my favorite players on the field, and they will finally get a chance to play. This will only give our squad more depth for the future.

Against Sao Paulo we played one of last year's U-17 World Champions, a defensive midfielder, Araujo, for all 90 minutes, and he had a terrific game. From where he came there are more, just waiting to get a chance.

The sad part of all this, is that we may not have back, when the World Cup is over , some of those players that left. There's alot of talk about selling some of them to Europe, even Vergara supports this, so the team you saw this year (and last year) may not be the same again.

Alianza

Youth Team
I dont know really what to think about the chivas players leaving, it does hurt chivas which looks like it has a big shot of winning the tournament and no one can deny that. But it also really helps thier national team not many teams are all together 2 months before the World Cup that builds chemistry an confidence which will help thier national team.
