The ones who have something to prove are Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay and Colombia.

USA and Mexico have reached the quarterfinals of a World Cup in the last 20 years. Those teams haven't.

maybe Colombia and Paraguay, Uruguay were wc champions a long time ago.

I don't know how that's an insult, but whatever.

I can't believe this thread is still going, when you ask the same question and argue the same thing, yet you keep getting different responces as to how it's fine as is. The thing is, you underestimate Mexico/US a lot. I don't know what else to tell you.

In a dream world, sure Mexico and the US would be in the CONMEBOL for a 'better challenge'. They would have no problem qualifying, and the small teams like Jamaica/T&T/Cuba etc. could qualify from the CONCACAF. Would that make you make another thread about how they need a better challenge? I mean, that's your argument, right?

If small teams getting into the World Cup really bothers you, you have to look at Africa, or Asia. What have they done? (besides Korea, we all know what they did). Africa has five teams in the World Cup and all but one is eliminated already. Asia has teams like Saudi Arabia getting beat 8-0, 4-0 in World Cups, but there's no thread about them. CONCACAF isn't that bad off. In fact, besides Costa Rica, the others have a chance to qualify to the round of 16.

their players have to travel +9 hours from europe, might as well travel directly to the country that they gonna play their wqc, right now some of 'em sometimes do that. you do know how many hours is it from italy to say argentina right?

i don't think they are that poor dude

exactly

don't think so, it would be a shame for the big teams to not be able qualify cuz they thought their b team was good enough.
hahahahahaha you really have no idea how poor south american football is, again remember these are 3rd world countries im telling you they can't afford it.

Ancient history. I mean, the US reached the semifinals in 1934 and beat England in 1950, does our current team deserve respect because of that? I don't think so.

so england shouldn't be respected??? or italy??? or argentina?? comon, tittles give you respect and that respect can't be erased no matter how many years pass and just for what happened in 1950 in maracana make uruguay a country that should be respected now and 100 years from now.

Those teams actually qualify for the knockout rounds on a normal basis. Uruguay didn't even qualify for the cup, dispite getting two chances.

again i dont want to talk about this, because its off topic but again, tittles give you respect, qualifying means nothing if you dont win.

Let me quote Bobby on this, because I think it needs to be said again:

There.

were not talking about clubs, were talking about countries
How does that change things? It's a very good analogy.

But anyway, I really don't care whether Uruguay do or don't deserve respect. My point was about the US and Mexico and their standing related to other South American teams.

Yup. European sides would tremble before Nottingham Forest, yet laugh at the prospect of facing Arsenal and Chelsea.

The only team from the CONCACAF that gets respect in south america is Mexico, even though the US improved dramatically and are perhaps the best team in the north right now.
