CONCACAF has something like 40 members, it's a fully operational confederation. If you want Mexico and USA, you're gonna have to take Montserrat and St. Lucia too, and CONMEBOL doesn't even want Guyana and Suriname.
CONCACAF gets 3.5 spots, that's less than 1 spot for every 10 members. CONMEBOL gets 4.5, that's almost a spot for every 2 members. Not only that, but they managed to **** up against the Aussies dispite trying to screw them on ligistics!
It's hardly unfair to CONMEBOL.
Should also be noted that last time USA played in Copa America, they finished 4th. This was when the top league in the US was the precursor to the USL.

it's the quality of football that suffers! wouldn't you rather get better by playing better teams during the wcq and the gold cup and copa america (which should be a copa america only).

i just always thought that the concacaf would get better as time passed but they have never become real contenders and i think those teams owe that to the fact that the concacaf is the weaker of the 2 american confederations.
to me its like this i rather america had just one confederation so all the teams get to play better teams (their southern neighbors) and get better, and actually cuz i think it would be really cool to have a copa america the way the euro cup is done. right now the copa america and the gold cup or concacaf cup can't remember the name aren't that special, and you even have teams sending their B squads, something that would never happen in europe cuz we have to actually go through qualifiers to be there.

i was the first poster (since i created the thread), and the comparison you are trying to imply is not even close.
its like i said a while back europe is also divided by regions, but we all fall under the uefa we dont have the eastern europe confederation....
which to me is the case of america, the difference in quality between both confederations the concacaf and the conmebol is just too much, its not even a matter of spots as some people think its about the quality of the teams in each confederation and the improvement it would be for them to play the far better teams on the conmebol, and the fact that a unified copa america would be a great tournament in the way that the euro cup is.
I think North and South american teams should play together to get 7 spots from teams like Brasil, Argentina, Uruguay, Colombia, Mexico, USA, Paraguay, Ecuador, Bolivia, Peru, Costa Rica, Guatemala, etc.

You look at Mexico's performances and tell me they werent at least "decent". Aside from that embrassing defeat to the US, Mexico gave each and every one of the countries they played in WCs a run for their money. They were eliminated by Bulgaria who made it to the 3rd place game in 94 in PKs, they lost to Germany (after being up 1-0) in 98 in the round of 16 because we've never been world class in terms of finishing. Then in 02, we lost to the US, who Germany had trouble with in the quarter finals.
And the US, well, I think ive said enough, a real US fan can say more than me anyway.

CONCACAF's nations don't have the biggest budgets in the world, it would hurt their FA's badly to travel that far.

In fact, according to the georgraphy, you should be more concerned with merging UEFA and AFC, but you're not saying that are you? Because you don't know what you're talking about and are advocating an artificial and baseless position.
