You just had to resort to that sort of comeback didn't you?
Didn't
have to....
But it illustrates a point. I will freely admit that Barcelona players do it. When they win a penalty or a free kick I'm just as pleased when they score. It is smart.
Just like not putting a player on the ball until the referee calls you off on the free kick is dumb.
I'm well aware of the whole idea that it's "cheating" and you shouldn't do it, but isn't that the whole point of the simulation rule?
Then again, for every time a player allows himself to fall too easily, there are probably the same number of instances where players are taken down and it isn't called, never mind all the holding and shoving at free kicks and corners.
It's so much a part of the game that when you don't do it well, you get a card, but when you do, you get your team an advantage, sort of like tackling.
A poor tackle could get you booked, a good one could save your team the match. So from a certain point of view, diving could be seen as a football skill as valuable as tackling or shooting. From a certain point of view. (just ask Obi-Wan)
Anyway, I'm somewhere in the middle on the whole thing, but I like to put forth a different POV on it, since there seems to be mass condemnation of it all the time.
