This is supposed to be the CHAMPIONS LEAGUE? The champions of all the domestic leagues were originally seeded top with everyone elsea in the other pots, (for anyone old enough to remember the original point of this competition). Anything other than that is just moving the goalposts to keep a certain group of clubs happy and to make UEFA more money. If you buy into that "record in Europe in the last 5 years" crap, then you have been mugged. Or you must support one of those teams who are NOT champions but are seeded anyway. As I said, the whole thing is fu<ked up.

Well when you consider that when Liverpool won the thing, that didn't automatically qualify them for the following seasons competition, and that it took some background politics to convince UEFA to move the goalposts yet again to accomodate them, then its a bit weak to say that because they won it recently that they are entitled to be seeded. It stinks to be honest and its not difficult to see why certain teams are continually seeded even though the original criteria would see them in other pots. Then again we all know who really controls the Champions League don't we? (:/)

haha this is what might happen when celtic get 2nd seed, and on goes the vicious cycle. if celtic progresses from the group while some other strong team like benfica or psv gets bogged down in their group of deaths, celtic will continue to "perform well" in europe on paper and gets seeded high.

Pete, moving the goalposts basically means not doing what's best for Chelsea. I agree that the 5 year policy should be scrapped, but it's there and it has been even before Chelsea became what they are, believe it or not. You're acting as if all this is to screw your team. Chelsea aren't that important.
Fact is, UEFA likes to have clubs in their competition that have been most successful during a longer period of time (yes, that means more money naturally, because success equals money). While I disagree with that because it doesn't give a fair shot to Chelsea and teams like Chelsea, it is also logical to some degree because it's normal that successful teams are rewarded. Arsenal have done more than you in this competition. They reached the final, which is something Chelsea can't say. Pool even won it, so it's normal they have a higher rating than you as far as Europe goes.
Like I said, I'd scrap it, but I wouldn't complain so much against it. If your club really is strong enough, they will remove all obstacles and win.

Arsenal and Liverpool have been to the finals of both European Cups in recent years. They're more than qualifyed to be in pot 1. Football is more than 3 years old.

I am aware of UEFA's criteria NOW for seedings. All I am saying is that since the CL started (replacing the European Cup), the criteria has dramatically changed. When once all the seeds were Champions of their domestic leagues, now it is not, and as each obstacle arises that restricts the "old boys clubs", new rules are made to overcome the obstacle. Thats a fact which cannot be ignored. As I said earlier, the only people happy with the currant seedings are the clubs and the fans of the aforementioned "old boys clubs"

Its not just Chelsea who get short changed, there are other clubs in the same position. Most of you guys are fans of the clubs that get "special" consideration so I would not expect any of you to be seen to be agreeing with any of this, but that still does not detract from the fact that the rules are made and changed to suit the "usual suspects" as it were. You also like to pretend that G14 has no influence within the CL setup but after all, this was the reason that G14 came into being. The CL is the reason they exist. If they didn't wield any power, then their existance would be pointless and they would cease to be.

This is not me just whinging, I am simply pointing out that the original concept of the competition has been replaced by something much more contrived.
I know thats how it is and there aint anything little ol' me can do about it. Just as you guys are quite happy with the way things are because it suits your clubs, and therefore it suits you too.

ZKA.....Some good points made, though I'll ignore the silly comment about Chelsea not being important, but remember this dude, Chelsea have been English Champions for 2 seasons running now. This is the CHAMPIONS league. Originally concieved for champions of their respective domestic leagues. That makes Chelsea, in this competition at least, important. At least it should do.
