Senior Squad
BVB bag Buckley

by Alex Livie - created on 27 Apr 2005

Borussia Dortmund have completed the capture of South African striker Delron Buckley from Bundesliga rivals Arminia Bielefeld.

Despite being mired in debt, BVB have set their stall out to freshen their squad up for next term and have swooped to sign Buckley on a four-year deal.

The transfer is worth €425,000 to Arminia, while Dortmund coach Bert van Marwijk believes he has added a quality attacker to his squad.

"With Delron Buckley, we get a left-footer in attack as well as a quick and deadly finisher who fits into my plans," said van Marwijk.

The club's managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke added: "We have signed one of the most prolific strikers in the Bundesliga under very favourable financial conditions."

Great signing (Y)

Yeah, I know. I'm extactic, and what a bargain. I can't wait until next season.

Not very significant but we will need a backup.

PSV Eindhoven keeper Edwin Zoetebier could be set for a move to the
Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund.

The 34-year-old - who has fallen out of favour with PSV - is out of
contract in the summer and the German media have linked him with a
move to the Westfalenstadion.

Dortmund coach Bert van Marwijk knows his compatriot Zoetebier from
their time in Holland with Feyenoord.

Reserve keeper Guillaume Warmuz will leave Dortmund in the summer and
van Marwijk is keen to bring in an experienced number two as cover for
talented, but inconsistent number one Roman Weidenfeller.

I see no reason why we shouldnt be top 5 next year.
I see Dortmund between 4 and 7 next season. Bayern, Schalke and Stuttgart are clearly better, Leverkusen, Bremen and Hamburg should be on the same level.

I wish I were as optimistic as you, Adiz.

But yeah, Bremen and Hamburg will ultimately decide what placing we finish in next season, and you just never know with Leverkusen. And what about Hertha? They've been cruising all season long. Can they repeat it all again next year?

Hello guys,

Various sources in France (Le Parisien, France-Soir) reports that Tomas Rosicky is close to Paris SG. I would be very surprised to see him in Paris, since the quality of the player.

Do you have some news about that? Thanks in advance :)

I forgot about Hertha. They will strenghten their team since they have the money to do so but the CL would hurt them in the long run (like Bremen this year).

I have not heard anything about this, if it was a semi reliable source... I think I would have heard about it. Does PSG have 15 million?

I like what BvM has done with the team. We will drop plenty of dead weight this summer and most players seem happy. We are somewhat stable for the next year or two financially so that should help. Also, I love what Kringe and Weidenfeller are doing. :lui:

Nice to see Dortmund gradually creeping back up the table where they belong. I have always been a quiet admirer of Dortmund, i think its the yellow strip :crazyboy: lol

Dont get me wrong i like the players, i rate Dede the most.

Speaking of him, he's linked with Chelsea at the moment. Its an area they need some cover for. I would love to see him in England but there are a few complications. If he leaves how much (in pounds) do u think u will get for him?

Does he have a chance of replacing Roberto Carlos when Carlos retires? I no he's 27 already but he is a great wing back that could be an adequate replacement for RC.

I'd tipped Dede to join Barca this close season. Where do people think he will be next season? And what country was he considering playing for other than Brazil?

7-10 M. Dortmund is financially safe for the upcoming year. They don't need to sell their players but will accept good offers. Dede's loss would open up a big hole which will be hard to cover.

He's the second best leftback in the German league. I think he can replace Roberto Carlos he's also much better defensively. You never know with Brazil though they produce so many talented players every year. Gustavo Nery seems to be the choice of the coach to be become Carlos' successor.

Still with Dortmund.

And what country was he considering playing for other than Brazil?
Germany. He could apply for a German citizenship if needed (non-EU players rule).

Aye, I rarely get to speak in my thread as it is, and right when someone other than Adizlaja and I speaks in my thread, Vince is here to steal my thunder! Grrrrreat! (Y)

Dede also foolishly considered playing for Qatar.

I think Chelsea offered 6m pounds. Im not sure what to say... at least he signed a contract with us so he doesnt leave for free. 6 million seems like a price that is right in the middle.

Is he really getting a German passport? If he does is he eligible to play the NT?
Btw how is my man Ricken doing?

$6m pounds is laughable.

Aye, Ricken finally hit his original form at the beginning of the second half of the season after being non-existent for a couple of years. He had an excellent brief stint in the starting line-up (because of an Ewerthon injury), but now that Ewerthon is recovered, Ricken's now back on the bench.

There wouldn't be any problems to get a German passport for him. You only have to live fora certain period of time in the country, Dede's been living here since 1998 that's enough.

He's played for Brazil in some worthless friendly, this makes him not eligible to play for Germany.

That Brazilian is a ******* moron anyway. Dede has to be on the Brazilian team, no doubt about that. The most ridiculous thing is that he prefers Roque Junior over Marcelo Bordon.

Eh, 2-1 to Schalke is my prediction. I hope we're as lucky against Schalke as we were with Werder Bremen last weekend. A draw would be somewhat pleasing, I suppose. Go Dortmund!
