Why only Ronaldo bitches about wanting to rest? I understand it's a worthless tournament and everything but you either want to play for your NT or you don't... I hate it when people think they're too good for something, just like Daniele Hipolito's going AWOL on the gymnastics team... There are players who played just as much as Ronaldo and still don't complain... Ronaldinho is bigger than Ronaldo atm, but he still wants to play in the confed cup...
I'd like to take only the important classes (for me, which would be only english and computing) and exams but guess what if I miss the damn history exam "because I'm tired", I fail... If someone skips work because he "wouldn't be important on that day", he's fired...

The CBF sucks, but I fail to see how wanting not to play for the nt in a competition but still wanting to play for another is going to help... a way to get them out would do like the tennis players did at the davis cup but in the World cup... chances of it happening? 0...
well, you changed your argument. first was the pride thing and i disagree. now it's the obligation or something like that, and i disagree as well. but it's ok, i like to discuss with you.

i guess ronaldo is the only one to bitch about that because he has the guts to do it. i'm sure he's not the only one who does not want to play the tournament. i couldn't say for sure that ronaldinho and others do want to play the confederations cup, really. anyway, why should ronaldo accept cbf decisions just because other players who are playing better than him don't do it?

i don't think your comparison with the classes and the job is good enough because we're talking about ronaldo and cbf (parreira is so submissive to cbf i'm not considering him). considering ronaldo's condition (he's highly ranked and guaranteed on the squad), he can do what he did. a student or a employee can't do the same, except if the employee is so good he can do almost anything with no fear -- something like what happens to ronaldo.

but that's not the question exactly, because i'd support any player -- good or bad -- in the same situation. i hate cris, but i'd applause him if he did it.

not wanting to play for the nt in a competition but still wanting to play for another might not help in anything at all, but it won't make things worse as well! so, why be against it?

we know cbf is crap but when a player argues with it, we complain? only because "it's not going to help?" it sounds so accommodating, for god's sake. we should congratulate him, we should comemorate it. that's only my opinion, of course.

grunger, your question is simple -- he needs a break, but not immediately. he's not tired right now. but he needs a break to keep himself physically decent. it's important, stupid cbf should realize that, but all they think is $$$$. the fatigue was one of the main reasons argentina and france failed on the last world cup.

The pride argument still stands... when your country needs you it means you're the best from that country (or one of the best available), rejecting it is like saying "I don't care", or like he said "I have nothing to prove to anyone", which is questionable since his last games have been poor for the NT...

I fail to see why the comparison can't be made... I know, I'm slow, but giving footballers superstar status so that they don't have to follow rules "common people" have to, then it'll be a chaos... Why doesn't Ronaldo tell Luxemburgo he needs to have a rest? because Madrid can buy another superstar striker and he'll be on the bench? he takes his place on the NT as granted, and Parreira made things worse when Ronaldo was being criticized as being fat and he kept playing him when Ronaldo was playing poorly... Ronaldo should NOT have a guaranteed place on the NT... if only to avoid this kind of situation...

It's not a CBF decision to play in the confed cup, but it may be their "fault" we're taking a full strength side... but why would they? disqualification from the confed cup in the early rounds, even though it means nothing, have cost Leao's place as the NT coach...

I don't blame Ronaldo for not wanting to play, pride is nothing nowadays and he isn't the only one.. I blame his refusal to play confed yet disposition to play quals... if he wants to take action against CBF (which I doubt was his reason for not wanting to play confed), retire from the national squad... or do you think Nastas would have stepped down had Guga retired from Costa do Sauipe yet played in Roland Garros and the Davis?

If action against CBF was intended, I'd support Ronaldo, Cris, Roque Junior and whoever, as long as they didn't want to play for the NT instead of not wanting to play confed cup... but I highly doubt the fact that Ronaldo wanted to take a shot at the CBF... When, and if, it happens I'll congratulate him... at the time I only think he's a lazy bastard

BRAZIL RELEASE ADRIANO FOR CUP 1ST LEG
Wednesday, 01 June 2005 02:00:01
MILAN - Through its official website CBFNEWS, the Brazilian FA has announced that Adriano will be available to Inter for the Coppa Italia TIM final first leg against Roma at the Stadio Olimpico on 12 June. Called up to the Brazil squad for the Confederations Cup in Germany from 15 to 19 June, the player has been given permission to arrive at the Brazil retreat in Leverkusen on 13 June.

On joining up with his teammates yesterday afternoon for training toward the World Cup qualifiers against Paraguay (4 June) and Argentina (8 June), Adriano said he wanted to speak to national team coach Carlos Alberto Parreira to find a solution that would satisfy both Inter and Brazil.

==============================================

Ok, so he'll be available for the first leg on June 12th, but not for the 2nd leg. I guess it's a fair comprimise in terms of he gets to play for both teams, but in a ways it's not. The Confederations Cup is a pointless tournament while this Coppa Italia is serious business for the club. Heck it's the most important matches this football season and now he'll miss the 2nd leg. Hopefully he bags a hat trick in the first easing things for the 2nd.

well, i already gave my opinion about the pride... just to make things clear: he has pride to play for the national team, otherwise he wouldn't want to play the qualifying games. the thing is i don't consider there's pride involved in playing for the globo anniversary or the confed. cup.

ronaldo can't do the same with real madrid because, besides the point you made, he's a real madrid employee and he couldn't take a rest from real madrid to prioritise the nt. it's professionalism. if ronaldo shouldn't have a guaranteed place, then it's parreira's fault, not ronaldo's.

for me, cbf sends a strong squad to the confederation cup because there's money involved. about leão, you gotta think he's not so submissive to the cbf as parreira. the latter, besides being competent, follows the rules of the cbf, that's why cbf likes him so much. i think that's why felipão jumped off after the world cup (he couldn't stand it), and that's why for example tostão always denied invites to work there.

anyway, back the the squad for the confed cup and going a little off-topic, i only wonder why cbf didn't called players such as cafu and roberto carlos.

i know what ronaldo did probably will have no consquences at all. also i know the main reason ronaldo did it was not to take a shot at the cbf. ronaldo asked for that because he really wants to take a rest.

but after the conversation he had with parreira, he implicitly made clear to the press that the decision of taking him off the qualifying games came from cbf. he argued with the cbf in some way, and i think it's good. he even quesitoned américo faria. and any action against the cbf makes me feel good, even if there are other intentions involved. (obviously depending on those intentions my good feeling will be mixed up with other kind of feelings, but that's another story. but since i agree all the players -- not only ronaldo -- need to take some rest, then only good feelings right now.)

Well.. I agree with most of emmer's opinions so I'll stop taking over the thread...

as for who's the next big thing.. well... I have to say Fred.. this guy is awesome (but his hair....) out the other players ronnifan listed, I'd say Dagoberto is the best... also, Gil is not renewing his contract with Corinthians at the end of the year so he'd be available on a free....

Maybe Inter will jump and sign him. Hope so, I'd love to have Gil coming in and the likes of Recoba and possibly Vieri going out.

I don't think there'll be any major changes... I'm pretty sure Ronaldo won't play against the Argies...
I think Parreira will go with
Dida
Cafu Roque Lucio R. Carlos
Emerson Ze Roberto
Ronaldinho Kaka
Robinho Adriano

Parreira supposedly said the game against the argies is a luxury friendly, which could mean a lot of things... maybe he's just trying to take the pressure of the team's backs, or maybe he's trying to prepare the supporters for a "we have some more games to be at world cup so it wasn't that important" speech
