If we would have enough money there would be no problem.
Wages stall Cruz-Chivu switch
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Julio Cruz would be happy to go to Roma in exchange for Cristian Chivu, but the Inter striker won’t accept the salary cap.
The Nerazzurri have been trying to tempt Chivu to San Siro for over a year now and face competition from Barcelona to capture his signature.
In a bid to get the upper hand, they aim to resolve Roma’s striker shortage by offering supersub Cruz in exchange.
“Roma is a club and a city to be admired. On May 28 President Massimo Moratti told Cruz that he would renew his contract for another year, but in the intervening two weeks we have heard nothing,” said agent Gustavo Ghezzi.
“Football in Italy can change very quickly. His intention is to remain at Inter, but if there are other offers then we will sit down around a table and discuss them.
“Cruz can play in any team, even if there are only two or three who can afford him. He won’t go to Milan for obvious reasons, so the others are Juventus and Roma. If there is a chance, then we will negotiate.”
This is not the first time that the Argentine has been linked with the Giallorossi and he would be guaranteed more starts than he has been granted at Inter.
However, agent Ghezzi told ‘Radio Radio’ that there is a definite stumbling block to this deal – Roma’s £1.7m salary cap.
“This is a very big problem. Even with bonuses for achieving certain objectives, we are a long way away from Cruz’s wages.”
This season Il Jardinero has scored 12 goals in just 23 official appearances between Serie A, the Champions League and Coppa Italia.
