Mexes to pen Roma contract

Philippe Mexes is set to commit his future to Italian giants Roma on Friday by signing a new contract.
The Frenchman is only presently tied to the club until June 2008, but the Milan and Real Madrid target has been in extension talks with the Giallorossi for the last month.
According to reports in the capital, the defender will meet officials again later today where he will pen a new four-year deal worth £1.7m per season.
Such an action will end mass speculation over his future which did suggest that Mexes was initially unhappy with the club’s introduction of a £1.7m salary cap – which is not valid for Francesco Totti.
However, the 2004 signing from Auxerre has insisted recently that he wanted a Rome stay by underlining the fact that he felt like a Roman and a Romanista.
Teammate Cristian Chivu has been offered the same contract, but the Romanian has refused the offer by insisting he wants a deal worth £2.8m a season.
As a result, Chivu is close to signing a five-year contract with Italian champions Inter, who it seems have a £2.5m a year deal already lined up for the 26-year-old.
Roma are looking for an alternative to Chivu, a reported target for Real Madrid, Barcelona, Milan and Juventus in the past, and may make a move for Silveira Juan of Bayer Leverkusen shortly.

Oh come on Paolo... Chivu has been a good player for you. If he decides to leave and take a bigger contract on another team, you should wish him well. Although I will say that if he had any class or love for Roma, he would go abroad and not go to another Serie A club.
Chivu is over-rated, very much, I don't like him as man but also like player, good player but not worldclass, Mexes is much better than him, we lost 12 points every year cause Chivu mistakes, stupid penalties and other, I want him far from Roma and hope to sign a new good defender.....

Contract talks are not going well and various newspapers in Italy and Europe have announced a ‘done deal’ with several different sides.
“None of the transfers that been attributed to me are real,” assured the defender in an interview with the Reuters news agency.
“I am a Roma player for another year and at this moment in time we are trying to find a way to extend my rapport with the club.”
The latest reports had Barcelona intercepting Inter’s bid (Walter Samuel, cash plus the other half of David Pizarro’s contract) with an offer of £8.8m and Brazilian star Cicinho.
“In the past year the media have attributed my future to a different club every day,” sighed the Romanian.
“None of it is true. I am only negotiating with Roma for my contract extension and have not spoken to any other sides.”

Guys for begining im a new member in this forum and im a big fan of as roma.
today one friend told me about this forum and from now i will start posting with YOU. Thats enough for me and lets start with psoting about roma.
I think if chivu would go in another team that would be Spanish team. i know that chivu said that if he leave roma, he will go in other country because he doesnt want to play against roma, but i think that if he turns down the offer from barecelona he will stay at home in rome.
