Yeah I reckon it must be pretty high for them, you've pretty much explained it. Nasri, too. Plus with this one you had the "I want to leave and won't renew" thing, then Arsenal making an effort to buy good players and he leaves anyway.

I felt worse about Cole, he was just hitting his pinnacle.

EDIT - As much as Arsenal fans hate United, they aren't a direct rival.

It looks really bad on us, perhaps even grim, to be losing our captains and best players in back to back seasons from an aspiration and reputation standpoint. But I was certain that he wouldn't be back with us a couple of summers ago when he made it clear that he wasn't interested in resigning with us by laughing off the deal that was put forth to 'em.

We were in an untenable and hideous position. I mean, with a year left on his contract, we had little leverage and negotiating power with interested clubs. Especially since he was dead set on going to Man United.. He's probably got two years of peak performance remaining, but the fee we were able to get for 'em is phenomenal considering that he is nearing 30 and has had quite a few injury issues.

I'm not angry or consider RvP a traitor or whatever. We've done f/uck all to garner his loyalty since he's gotten here. Sure we stood by him when he was a fragile and erratic player, but have we been a legitimate contenders for the two crowning achievements that really matter in the last eight years? Let's be honest with ourselves!! At best, we're a third place team now...that's our status and that should be our objective.

I haven't loved the club more than I have in the last four years. Sure we've had some heart-wrenching, humiliating and depressing results and our second-tier status has never been more apparent. But the product has never been more turbulently exciting as well. We're no longer The Invincibles that I used to take for granted. Nothing is guaranteed anymore, and the surprises, be they negative or positive, are considerably more frequent.

Another painful loss, that's for sure but I'm unconditionally optimistic about this upcoming season. We're a massive club with huge underdog undertones.....I F/UCKING LOVE THAT!!

I do feel for Wenger though. I love the guy although I agree he's mode a few mistakes in the past, he tends to be a bit stubborn at times but he's drive for his football ideal is great. And what can a manager really do when players all around him don't get their heads aligned with the club and are always looking for ways out? Sure, you might argue they are looking for titles, but it's a circle really. They leave (or key members leave) so they don't win titles, and more want to leave because they didn't win titles.

Well I do not disagree of course however one has to think we have really dropped down the pecking order of ambitious clubs. Can you imagine a top club at the top of their game or intend to be there sanctioning this move? All the things that have been going on point towards we are willing to sell. Research about our policies and you will find they kind of ensure we end up selling in the end. I can't say for sure obviously that we intend to do so but the end result of our chosen policies mean we end up selling. We must bite the bullet and change our ways because we haven't exactly progressed off the pitch and regressed on it.

I feel sorry for Arsene as well. He is a good man and he genuinely loves the club. But he isn't stupid or unrealistic either even if we would have liked if he was bit more ruthless and I suspect behind the scenes there things aren't as supportive as they would have us believe.

As for loyalty- lets be honest- we are the ones idolizing or demonizing footballers 99% of the time because of what they do/don't do for us or what we think they could have done/shouldn't have done for us but not because we know them personally. We do not have the full details of everything going on behind close doors or what they do in their lives other than when the not so credible media tell us. If morality, loyalty or stuff like that is what we are going to base our support on we wouldn't watching football let alone be supporting our clubs. Not that I think we are perfect human beings who cannot be tempted into forgetting values, virtues or things like that. 99% of Gooners couldn't give a flying fvck if Denilson is full of good human values or what he went through during his childhood when he wasn't rich or famous. Footballers after all are human beings regardless of what they earn and how popular they are. "Role model" talk is a load of horse placenta.

^^^That however wouldn't make me hesitate from making snide remarks re John Terry while look for excuses for players I like.

I hope Van Persie is back to usual self as he begins on a new path in a tablecloth.

Yeah I wasn't talking about the morality, loyalty part of it, I was just referring to the fact that they indeed exit the club season after season and how that aggravates the state of the club regardless of Wenger's decisions. I for one think that with any other manager (well, apart from the top two/three) Arsenal would be in an even worse position.

you're absolutely correct, my good man. We're immensely fortunate that Arsene is still this engaged, creative and fanatical about managing the club after an eight year drought.

Question. Would you folks have preferred a straight swap for either of welback or hernandez instead of the 22-24MP?

That's not bad at all, Cazorla may drop in to either side when Walcott or Podolski join Giroud in an attacking movement. Yoss it would have been awesome to get Hernandez or Welbeck but I don't think that was ever an option, might as well not consider it.

@Yossarian- Song I think is gone mate. Think Diaby is gonna start in his place I think. Lets hope we start well with a good performance and win.

If(actually when) Song is sold as well that means we have financed what has been spent on Giroud,Cazorla and Podolski. I really hope we invest though. We are gonna need it big time. We are close to Sahin I think.

@Fili- That loyalty part of my post was regarding other posts about it. Should have made it clear.

And I'm not too keen on Welbeck or Hernandez to be honest. Wouldn't mind Chicarito as an option but....meh.

Arsenal: Wojciech Szczesny; Carl Jenkinson, Thomas Vermaelen (c), Per Mertesacker, Kieran Gibbs; Abou Diaby, Mikel Arteta, Santi Cazorla; Theo Walcott, Gervinho, Lukas Podolski.

3pts or bust.

I knew this summer transfer period was too good by Arsenal standards. So they had to sell two of their top players. They did it backwords, bought first and then sold.
