Any Bolton fans here?

I am hoping there are some other Bolton fans here, because I'd like to discuss the transfer situation. It's so frustrating to me that we're losing players to clubs like West Ham and Portsmouth. We can offer European football and a chance at something OTHER than a relegation battle. Anyway, why do you think it's been so difficult to sign players, what do you think of the current signings, and what do you think the future holds?

The reason you lost out on Benayoun is quite simple -- he wanted to follow in his heroes footsteps, Eyal Berkovic. And of course, a little persuasion by Eyal himself.

I wouldn't worry about it till the start of the season. You maybe losing some players but Big Sam always has back-up plans. I don't think theres much that needs changing in the Bolton line-up now you've got Diouf.

Borgettis one hell of a striker, he has great vision and positioning inside the box. Hes already in England as we speak about to sign... if he hasnt signed already.

Borgetti has already signed, and I am definitely looking forward to his debut. We had a problem getting goals last year, but the additions of Borgetti and Diouf, as well as the good preseason form of Kevin Davies, means that department is looking up.

Defense is still a problem however. Hierro's boots are almost impossible to fill but hopefully Campo will step up, although his preseason hasn't been spectacular. Juanfran looks like he will come on loan, as will Faye. The fullbacks remain in short supply however, with only Hunt (who was injury prone last season) and Gardner, and Ben Haim in a pinch.

Additionally, I think we should investigate signing Peter Lovenkrands. If he stays in good form on the left that would allow Diouf to move into the center, where he would be more of a scoring threat.

I don't know where else to ask this question so I'll ask in here, how much cash would it take to pry Elmander away from Brondby? Dortmund was linked with him last year. They had an undiclosed bid for him turned down.

Why won't van Marwijk learn? He was a complete failure at Feyenoord and was shipped back to THREE times. Hell, the guy wasn't even good enough for NAC. Smolarek was a quality signing but stay away from Elmander.

Bolton has a fetish for aging players :(

What else is a team to do in the plutocracy that UEFA has created? You can't argue with results, and Bolton got into Europe with the highest average age in the Premiership last year. I suspect it's largely going to be temporary; if these good results continue and the money continues to come in, signings will get younger and better. And better behaved.

I'm sure big Sam would love to bring in a couple of young starlets with their over the top wage demands however the man is working on a shoe string budget and has done a bloody good job with it.

Definitely looking forward to seeing Borgetti play for Bolton next season and seeing him going up against the likes of United, Chelsea, and Arsenal. If he's got one thing going for him, its that he's very good in the air and that will certainly help in England. My only concern is that he goes down a little too easy and he complains a lot of he doesn't get the call to go his way, that could be a pretty bad problem for him in the Premiership.

Thanks for that info ManU2000. Someone who is good in the air definitely fits Bolton's style of play, although I'm not sure another Kevin Davies is what we needed necessarily. But if Borgetti has some attitude problems, I'm sure Big Samcan sort that out.

Will Borgetti get significant playing time?, I don't think he'll start any of the games unless they're are injuries or suspensions on the team. Otherwise, it'll be a pleasure to watch him play. :)

I don't know if he'll start right away, but Allardyce has shown he's not afraid to shake up the line-up when things go wrong. When we were leaking goals in the middle of the season last year Jaidi and Campo lost their places to Ben Haim and Hierro, respectively, and never got them back. If Davies fails to find the back of the net again, I have little doubt Borgetti will get his shot.

1-0 loss to Hull today. It's a bad result but only Hunt, Gardner, N'Gotty, Stelios and Pedersen were starting from the first team. Considering they just got back from Asia last night I don't really know what they were thinking with this match. It gave the young players a chance and apparently Howarth looked good in goal. Even so, losing a pre-season friendly against a newly promoted Championship team is bad for morale.

Also, what's the deal with Allardyce playing Pedersen as a left-back in the last two matches? If this is some kind of long-term plan I really hope the links with Mendy turn out to be true.

The Borgetti deal has finally been done. I'm glad the saga is over but I am also alarmed at how long it took to complete, I think it makes Bolton look pretty bush-league.
