360 vs. PS3 vs. Wii

The 360 is easier for programmers. Also has more memory and more useful purpose power and more advanced Graphics card (ATI). PS3 has a less powerful Graphics card (Nvidia). And these are facts. PS3 specs are no joke though. Question is whether they can take advantage of it...early signs say no. Plus, bluray is destined to become this eras Betamax. For those who love Sony and have the money, fine but if you think that the PS3 is way more powerful than the 360, think again. Not to mention it's 200 dollars cheaper and has an absolutely flawless online system, if you're into that.

Wow. Just read it. I didn't expect the X360 to be that superior over the PS3. It's a whole year of difference and with the Cell processor and Blu-ray, I didn't see that coming. Here's the sentence that surprised me the most in the article:

Graphics: The XBOX 360 is a clear winner.

Well, it's not that I believe that the 360 is better. I think in some areas yes, in some no. It's also very hard anytime you compare specs, it gets very tedious and there are many many variables involved. My whole point is that the PS3 is very powerful but probably in excess. For what developers are going to do it is overkill....just like the 360 is overkill as well. The reason why PS3 is so powerful is cause they plan to have it around for many years. Supposedly I hear for 8-10. But what's gonna happen in 3 or 4 years when MS comes out with another super console? The biggest worry Sony has though, is in their bluray disc player. As it stands now, HDVD outnumbers bluray 11-1 (fact). Bluray might very well be this eras betamax (for those of you who are too young, beta lost out to vhs...long time ago). Another big problem is that the cell processor makes it way more difficult for developers to write for. Just as the guy mentioned it in the article linked above. Sony also lost out on many exclusives due to the fact that they postponed their launch date. The 360 has a huge head start, many great exclusive games are already out and will continue to come out, it has an absurdly awesome online system, and is $200 cheaper. I don't underestimate SONY but it has alot of catch up to do.

No one has argued my facts I've posted above, especially the blu ray losing out to hdvd. Fact is most people are not happy with sony and admit they overhyped their system. Gamewise, future is looking bright for 360.

Technicalities aside, the console's success is built upon games. That's why I don't see it as being so cut and dried.

I quite like my 360 but I feel I may miss out on some absolute gems from the PS3. Sony is moving into the niche market of offering lovely little games from the Far East that really make an imprint on the critics but rarely sell a jot in Europe/US. It's those games I really admire and, currently, the only two companies willing to pin their hopes on them are Nintendo and Sony.

Well you'll be enjoying yur 360 even more in the coming months. Games like Lost Planet. Bioshock, Alan Wake, Mass Effect, Too Human are all exclusives. I don't know how much you know about games or how in tune you are with the developments in games, etc. but 360 is going full steam now. at the moment, you are missing nothing from PS3 and probably won't for 1-2 years. Enjoy it!

I saw the videos for Bioshock and it is kick@ass. Love the Art Deco level design to it. The gameplay elements look pretty fresh and groundbreaking for sure. Can't wait for it. alan Wake is the game I really want to play. It looks amazing and the story is looks to be great as well. They say it will revolutionize stoytelling in videogames and from the little I read I am confident it will. Gameswise, 360 looks very very bright. The PS3 will get there, gamewise in probably 2-3 years. They built the PS3 to last for 10 years, technically speaking. I'd rather pay less and enjoy the superb games, especially the superb exclusives, with superb graphics on the 360 for the next 4 - 5 years, then maybe buy a PS3 in 5 years when it costs 150 dollars, that would be the smart thing....or buy the next Xbox. But, I'll definately refrain from the PS3...quite simply not worth it. Just my opinion, please no attacks.

Not entirely a convincing arguement, to me. Alan Wake is a fantastic prospect that certainly has the potential to push my buttons. Aside from that, Lost Planet is decent, but I can see myself being bored of it quick. Bioshock is another canny game but FPS games have took a backseat since I got consoles. It's clear that games like FEAR show they can transition well, mind.

I'm missing nothing from PS3 because it hits our shelves in March and, likelyhood dictates it'll probably be a year before the titles come out that can really grip me.

Well, I was comparing the games, especially exclusives. 360 compared to PS3. Sure the PS3 just came out but they have lost alot of exclusives due to their delay. Just pointing out that the PS3 was way overhyped. People who have sheled out $600 or more on ebay, etc. will have to wait 2 years to really see what the PS3 is capable of. So far alot of developers aren't praising the PS3 as much as Sony is. It's one thing to be capable of immense conten, etc. and another to actually use that capability. Example; Most cars speedometers read 150 - 180 mph. Is it really going to go that fast? Most cars, no!

My bottom line on why PS3 is overhyped:

HDVD outnumbers BluRay movies 11-1. Look around the stores, you'll see I'm not lying. It might very well be the next Betamax(Sony's "answer" to vhs tape). PS3 is very hard for developers to make games for; that's why the launch titles aren't that great. So far I hear the online isn't all that. They've lost alot of exclusives to 360. 360 has more purpose power and memory than PS3 (according to quite afew developers) and has superb development kits available to game makers. Sony will show it's power but probaby in 2 years when developers catch up and truly learn how to program for the new processor. Also the price. My advice: If you truly love SONY and want to have the PS3 and have the money to spare it's a good move but if you buy it because you think it is superior to other game consoles out now and are stretching your budget, don't buy it. You'd be buying it for the wrong reasons. Only time will tell the true success of the PS3. It'll take like 2 more years. And for those SONY fan boys, I consider the PS2 my favorite console (pound for pound) and like Sony. I am just stating my opinions.

Wii>XBox360>PS3

the PS3 is just ridicule...

but thats just my opinion... :boohoo:

I dont even plan on buying any of them... (I might as well change my mind once I play the Wii and convince myself it'll be fun as hell to have one.. :D)

Wii looks fun. I like the whole controller idea. Very different and refreshing. It all depends what you want from a console. Wii is fun for pick up and play but if you are hardcore, want groundbreaking graphics, mature titles and all that the Wii is not for you. To each his own. Don't take this the wrong way but the Wii is kiddielike, in a good way. I'm not knocking it. It has its crowd and it does what it does well although they should really give Mario a rest.

Not to mention Xbox live will dominate online and We have Gears of War that looks better than anything Sony has or will have for some time, not to mention, "Alan Wake will come out in January and revolutionize videogames 4ever, and Splinter Cells are going to be 360 exclusive, and GTA will debut on 360....what else hmmm? Oh, $200 cheaper. (H)
