2 bucks to the pound, kids.

£255 for a 20GB PS3? Ta.
£150 for a 360? Double ta.
£127 for a Wii with Wii Sports? Triple ta.

Flight to New York from Newcastle £290. No ta.

Importing is definitely an enticing prospect. Particularly as Bush is in office for 2 more years. :D

Ill only say this quickly cause im tired :p

Guys: Im a huge v-game fan (first memory was getting a NES at age 1 and instantly became a life long gamer).

- Throughout my days i've lived through many huge gaming wars

1) Sega vs. Nintendo - was a fantastic one as both were great but I stuck with my SNES (best sytem ever).

2) PS1 vs. N64 vs. Saturn - I didnt know anything about Sony at the time. All I knew is that I was loyal to nintendo for 10 years at that point and so i stuck with them.............big mistake (Sony kicked ass here and I finally got interested in the concept of the "Console war")
-I learned why all the console wars went down and why 1 won why others lost.

3) When it came to PS2 vs. X-box, the choice was easy. PS2 was the biggest thing at the time (And I had absolutely loved the PS1 i got <too bad at the end of its life line.......I could have enjoyed it alot more>)
Also Gamecube for 99$ .......it was obviously a "serious system", but once I found that nintendo was sticking to a "Strict market" and just wanted to survive (make some profit) and not challenge the PS2 and Xbox.......It was the first time in my life that I strayed away from Nintendo after being a lifelong loyal fan.

---- I noticed something during this time- A buddy of mine bought Gamecube and I actually spent more time watching and enjoying the Cube than my PS2 (Which I thought was : "Good" but not 100000X better than PS1 as I expected <and call me a liar.......but I thought the quality of PS1 games were better than the graphics of PS2 <like the SNES games were better than 80% of what N64 had>)

but whatever , IT was still a good system. But I dont care if some of the Cube's games were "childish", I'll have 100,000X more fun playing MArio Kart/Smash Bros than ******* "Kill Zone".

Anyways..........let me say something interesting that I saw in a G4 documentary recently

((On Saturn vs. PS1 war))
Sony worker: "The thing that changed everything was that PS1 was 100$ cheaper than SAturn. Even 50 bucks can make a huge difference in a console war"

***EHEM...IRONY...EHEM***
-Flash forward to 2006 and PS3 is 400$$$$ more than Wii (!!!!!).

1) Before I heard this I knew PS3 was gonna clean up the war again. Until I heard that : It was the same as hearing: "Yeah ...also....Sony went outside and shot themselves in the head"
"What?"
"Yeah....right in the head"

Not only did Sony **** up in what was supposed to be a "walk in the park" console war again. But they also ****ed up their European and Australian market by making a system too expensive to release worldwide at the same time. <<<think its coming in March>>>>
(In Europe kids are already either getting X-Box or Wii..........and wont fork over 600$ for a "X box 360 clone")

--- Is there any wonder that Sony is "Shocked" that they could only sell 80,000 and Nintendo is "shocked" that they sold 800,000 so far (when they expected much less)?

After years and years of **** ups: "Virtual Boy", "N64 cartrige" .........All I have to say is: Well played guys. They really were planning this all along.

Wii or X Box will win this console war ...............Just thank the asshole who invented "Blue Ray" (what an idiot. They thought that it would have the same effect that Sony had with DVDs.............but there's 1 big difference: A PS2 was relatively the same price as a DVD at the time <was huge in making it more popular>.....................but if Sony comes out with a technology that NOONE cares about "Blue ray" ........no one is gonna fork over 600$ for it.

And look at all the crap it has? Also the fact that it has a few games different from the 360 (Which is really good enough. The PS3 looks slightly better but its not like 360 is like Atari.......its a great system)

http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=sony_bull****

^^ Enough said.

Also: http://uncyclopedia.org/wiki/PS3

lol, check out the video at the bottom. ^^

Guys Im actually glad people are starting to say "NO" to this piece of ****. If we accept Sony's insane 600$ demand, then the price of gaming will begin to rise with every generation. We need to put a stop to this now and tell those **** jobs to stick it up their asses.

***BTW, say it's a better system all you want. The Neo Geo was a super computer compared to SNES and Sega in the 90s. But what happened ? 600$ vs. 199$ vs. 250$

that's what happened. You'd think Sony would have learned.
**For older gamers here: Has anyone noticed that The new "blue ray" guimick is similar to the new "Blast processor" Sega had in 1994? (like no one cared about it no matter how much "Better" it made their system)

Good points pasion! I remember when I got my SNES...tremendous fun. I feel the same as you do about the PS3. What alot of people are not realizing is that the BluRay is a huge gamble! Fact is that right now, HDVD outnumbers Bluray 11-1.You can see this for yourself if you go to the stores and look around...try it. Many of us were too young to remember but probably heard of the Betamax(SONY) vs. VHS war. Well we all know who won that one. There is an eery similarity with the way things are going with PS3 now. I think Sony is trying to cover too much ground, too many areas with the PS3. What it's really trying to do is push the bluray tech on the gen. public....will it work? Only time will tell. I have nothing against SONY, I actually loved my PS1, 2. I just think that the strategy, timing is very risky. They could have had this holiday season and should have. The release kept being pushed back and it didn't pay off (e.g. Shortage of available units, lack of knockout games. lost out on exclusive titles that went to 360 due to the PS3 being pushed back, etc.) Perhaps, in the end, when the hysteria dies off a bit, people will look at the next round and present round of games and think more with their wallets. They will see the same graphics on both consoles and go with the more reasonable console.

On the other hand, right now, 360 is really taking off. I was skeptical but took the plunge and I love it. It has and will be releasing some awesome exclusive games, their online service is top notch and it's a fairly affordable system. At this point, I would highly recommend the 360 over the PS3....maybe in 3 years when the price of the PS3 comes down and they have some amazing games I'll get the PS3. As a matter of fact I do intend on getting it but only in 3 years (minimum). For now, I am truly enjoying the 360. It is the best system in my opinion.

Now, on to the Wii. The Wii will undoubtedly not win any console war, lets face it. It looks nice, has truly original controlers and will have a few nice exclusives (Zelda), etc. Price point is good. I admire Nintendo for looking at a new direction. Wheteher this is by choice or ther mere fact that they couldn't compete with the 360, PS3 who cares. Wii will do well.

Buy which system you like but be reasonable and openminded. Fanboy mentality blinds you.

completely agree man.

btw about PS3 losing alot of their popular games to 360 , this site was made a week ago (its so stupid...........but still funny)

http://ps3.fanboys.justgotowned.com/
 :funny:

360 is winning the war, incredible to say. (I've never seen a company **** up so bad as Sony just did). It was suicide. (its not worth the price difference for a system that pretty much is just a little better than 360 <and even has inferior online play>
(and their price drop will not be that high..........also 360's will be still way cheaper when it drops too)

But the Wii will surprise people. In terms of profit , the Wii will most likely clean up more than both of them (since Microsoft and Sony will lose alot and only reclaim a bit of profit with the licences)

In terms of systems sold, I dont think the PS3 can even compete with any of them. (Its just too much for them to produce PS3s. They prob wont even produce more than what the Wii will eventually sell)

- PS3 will bounce back later on <as we all know.....they are an incredible company>. But MAN this **** up will be legendary (Its the Neo Geo all over again. They didnt drop the prices for 1 reason.........THEY CANT <PS3s like Geos are rediculously expensive to produce>

And I agree with you saying that they tried to cover way too much with this system. While Wii and Xbox are all about gaming...........the PS3 is more of an "entertainment system". Well **** that: I already have a DVD and a stereo, I just want to have some fun.

(((**** i wouldnt be surprised if the PS4 had wheels and could drive you to work :funny: )

Winning? It's been out considerably longer. Fact is, when you have to buy 2 or 3 consoles to gauge which is the better system, the war in itself is not really a war.

Fanboyism has no real place in gaming. Sadly, it's rife.

And I agree with you saying that they tried to cover way too much with this system. While Wii and Xbox are all about gaming...........the PS3 is more of an "entertainment system". Well **** that: I already have a DVD and a stereo, I just want to have some fun.

And you'll get fun. The entertainment system angle has been flung about since 1995. Its here to stay.

(I've never seen a company **** up so bad as Sony just did)

For all those whinging about prices, we Europeans... well, the Brits are spoilt for choice. We can import all 3 consoles for £500, thanks to the 2 dollar pound. We also have the slightly more moral option of going into mainland Europe for them.

Fanboys should drop their arguments like hot potatoes. At the end of the day, it's a 3 way choice. Only an eejit would take just the one.

I'm glad there are 3 consoles on the market. Good for the consumer. Each console will try to outdo the other so in a way they'll be forced to produce quality hardware, software, etc. Too bad Sega and its Dreamcast aren't around. It was a great system that was way ahead of its time. Needless to say 360 & PS3 are here to stay. I think PS3 will be more popular but in like 3 years when its price comes down significantly and when developers truely master the "superior" processor, etc. It'll take some time though...but for the next 2 years, 360 has a definate advantage.

yeah but you cant give a company like Microsoft a 3 year head start. Even then , Im 190% sure they have a plan for when PS3 drops in price (theyll prob drop theirs to 199$) and also prob have some great games set up for that time.

Also X Box has the advantage that they can drop their prices without too much trouble. The PS3 wont be able to drop as much as ppl wish since already right now the PS3 is pretty much as cheap as they could make it (its so expensive for them to produce).

But your right. I bet that nintendo will take things more seriously now and try hard to keep up (in the 64 days, they just freaken gave up half way through <crap games galore>)

Sony's big problem is the fact they made it Region Free. Slight pain in the backside when the dollar's so poor. Hence, they're shutting down the import sites, if they can. Effectively, Sony lose out through very little fault of their own.

360 prices are dropping by £20 every few months, it seems. They only have to bat aside the Wii threat which isn't as strong as a PS3 release would offer. Microsoft have jumped the gun and got it right. Something SEGA failed to manage with the Dreamcast and Saturn. Microsoft have shown the early bird can get the worm.

Still, it has to be said that, when the PS3 does get over here, it'll be a tight fight between the big 2. I'm not discounting the Wii. It's targetting a niche market. A guilty pleasure, if you will.

It seems Microsoft knew what they were doing. When the 360 first launched, I was skeptical, thought they jumped the gun, it'd be a failure and now they are doing everything right. Think about it: They have the great exclusive games, their online service is super first rate, even the design of the controller is perfect and the price is right. Future looks very bright for 360. I definately tip it to win the console war. The signs are all there. The PS3 isn't accessible to everyone (availability & pricewise, exclusive games, and online is having big problems). I was always a PS person and didn't like the first xbox, used to make fun of MS (I'm a Mac person(H), still and wouldn't buy a PC over a Mac anyday) but I took a chance with the 360 and I have to say that I love it...alot. Biases aside, that's how you decide which console makes most sense. No need to be a fanboy!

Article from "linux insider.com":

Did Sony Kill Blu-ray?

This is more of a short update, but if you are watching PS3 sales , you know that the company will have a hard time hitting 600,000 units sold by year end, and there are already rumors that it may have to recall some of the initial systems for problems.

This follows battery and camera recalls that have many questioning Sony's ability to execute right now. Sony just experienced an executive shake-up that may put the company in better shape. When a company has as many problems as it had over the last 12 months, corporate should -- and generally does -- take the majority of the blame.

The interesting thing is that when Microsoft and Sony came down on opposite sides, many assumed that Microsoft wouldn't even get a vote. No one anticipated that simply by creating a low cost HD DVD accessory, it could change that dynamic dramatically. It shouldn't have been a surprise, given that those of us who thought Blu-ray would initially win believed it because of projected PS3 sales -- and PS3 should have created a decisive win for Sony and Blu-ray.

Unfortunately, there were massive production problems and cost overruns, and Sony could only get a fraction of the systems into the market channel. As a result, Microsoft is projected to have 10 million Xbox 360s by the end of this year, against Sony's 600,000 PS3s. If Microsoft has just a 20 percent attach rate for its US$200 drive -- which is selling out, by the way -- it will have nearly 4x the number of HD DVD drives in consumer hands.

If you think about it, Sony also ends the year behind Nintendo , which is expected to sell around 1 million Wii game systems. This suggests that while the PS3 should have assured the success of Blu-ray, Blu-ray may have assured the failure of the PS3 -- at least for 2006. Now that is just weird.

Nintendo Wii seems good but I'm 33 yrs old. I look for mature titles, great graphics. No way, Wii would satisfy me. They priced id perfectly. They knew price was key. Could you imagine the Wii costing $400-500? Who would buy it? For me the 360 makes most sense cause it fits right in the middle of both Wii and PS3. It's not as expensive as PS3 and has way better graphics than Wii, equal - better graphics as PS3, more games than both, combined. Better exclusive titles so far, amazing proven online service.

360 pros:
Exclusive Titles are great, Online service is superb, controller is almost perfect, graphics are amazing, excellent GPU (ATI Xeon), 512 MB memory, gamercard, achievements, faceplates...

From IGN:

Blu-ray Sony's Downfall?
Consumers believed to have negative view of new media.
by Hilary Goldstein
December 7, 2006 - It isn't cheap to produce a console that plays Blu-ray discs. Sony's PS3 costs more than $800 to produce, with cosnumers charged $600 for the new system. That's $200 more than PS3's nearest competitor, Microsoft's Xbox 360. Sony is banking on consumers' desire for the new Blu-ray player to overcome concerns over the hefty price tag. That could prove to be a dangerous gamble on Sony's part.

Yankee Group analyst Michael Goodman told Reuters that "Blu-ray is adding $150 to $200 to the [cost of PS3]. They've created something that is not for today's market. It's not a market driver, it's only driving the price higher."

Trend-watcher Cymfony surveyed 18,000 blog posts and message boards and discovered that positive Internet discussions about HD-DVD were 46% higher than for Blu-ray. "Negative Blu-ray conversation indicated a lack of consumer trust in Sony, as well as gamer displeasure with selling Blu-ray in association with PlayStation 3," Cymphony's Jim Nail told Reuters.

Sony has displayed no public concerns about Blu-ray. Many people bought the PS2 specifically for its DVD playback capabilities, so it is possible the PS3 will see great success if consumers choose Blu-ray over HD-DVD.

"The likelihood of people using PS3s as DVD players is significant, particularly when you're talking about millions of consoles Sony expects to sell," Andy Parsons, a spokesman for the Blu-ray Disc Association said. "Blu-ray's here to stay."

Great Showing for the Wii. Didn't realize it was that popular!

The console from the maker of the Pokemon and Super Mario games is locked in a three-way sales battle with Sony's (SNE, news, msgs) PlayStation 3 and Microsoft's (MSFT, news, msgs) Xbox 360.

Sony said today that it had sold 197,000 units since the launch date, far fewer than the company's 400,000 target. Perhaps the trouble is the competition: The Wii, which debuted two days later, has sold 476,000 units so far.

The Xbox 360, which came out a year ago, sold 511,000 units in November. (Microsoft is the publisher of MSN Money.)

Selling large volumes of machines is critical for the companies because hot-selling formats attract software companies to make more games, which in turn boost machine sales.

Great Showing for the Wii. Didn't realize it was that popular!

Yeah, I was about to ask you how big the demand for the Wii is in Canada. I never thought it would that big as you said :O

I picked my wii on launch day, I waited five hours in line and by the time the store opened (Target) there were about 100 people (they only had 30 consoles and I was person number 14 in the line)

The Wii is a good hit now,but the 360 would probably have the edge on it.

The PS3 will be good too.
Do not be waiting till next year to buy one - you can find dudes on the internet selling ones for £20! :rockman:
