2018 world cup bid

I'm not gonna bother reading through every post here, but it seems the main argument seems to be about the World Cup taking place in Qatar, so i thought i'd say a thing or two about it as well. Just my opinion.

The fact that they have to build stadiums in the middle of a desert just for the World Cup seems like a waste of money to me. What's going to happen to them after the WC? Probably nothing. Another thing is it taking place during the winter? Like what the hell, just give it to US or something and everybody would be happy (except those who pocketed money from it).

And yeah lots of people have died from building those stadiums etc.. The heat being huge, bad working conditions etc.. There was even an article around here in the papers about someone's story who went to work there, that person's passport got taken away and literally had to live and work like a slave earning basically nothing until his contract ended.. But i guess that's another matter and the way things happen down there.

And that's just not everything, all that is going to affect leagues in Europe and everywhere else which are used to their normal procedure.
Anyway from my negative approach i believe everyone here can see that i'm against this, but oh well..

I still think this is blown out of proportion. European leagues having to change their scheduling once every 16-20 years, for a World Cup in the southern summer shouldn't be a big deal. There are other leagues that have to change their formats because of current World Cup scheduling - they have to do this EVERY four OR play through the World Cup without the handful of players that make the cup playing. Whilst it is only a handful, you also have to remember that these players are the absolute stars of these leagues. It makes a big difference.

Again, my issue isn't with the winter World Cup, but rather the fact that it wasn't part of their bid. The deception is the issue here.

Mmm i see. Well i don't really have any counter-arguments Alex. I guess it's just that us Europeans aren't used to these changes, not that the world evolves around us obviously . I mean there haven't been ones like that before, what bothers me is the location and the waste of money, corrupt FIFA people, lies etc... But arguing about it would go on and on, and i'm quite sure that most of the people would agree (besides Xifio) that a World Cup should not take place in Qatar.

I actually think Russia will be great, they're rich as fuck, it's gonna be post-qatar and they're going to want to show off to the western world, it'll be a massive propaganda session, I'd hate to be a lower or middle class citizen though, something has to give...
