Hmm I did not see the whole match but judging by the highlights I saw Racing had the better game and should have won but again I only saw the highlights so I won't say much.

Also interesting top 3 there, I think against Racing Eto'o actually did the worst ( statwise that is ) and I think Henry is better playing in Eto'o's position but it seems weird that FR took out Messi first ( IMO your most dangerous player ). Dinho still seems kind of out of it as you said so it might not be such a bad thing to leave him on the bench, make him work to get back in the XI. Anyway it's only the first game ( my post might be different it it was geared at bybuti or arnau who were all over the Madrid thread after the Sevilla match:D ) and that tackle Abidal took was horrible, it's a good thing he was not injured.

You're right, Racing were better. When I said that we should have won, I meant that, objectively speaking after comparing the two teams, we really shouldn't have had any problems. Racing will be one of the weakest teams this season and it's teams like this that you just have to beat. No, correction: you don't have to beat them as it can always happen that you miss chances and have bad luck, but you definitely have to outplay them. We have too much quality compared to them and, in case of a draw against an opponent of their level, at least we should have been the better team.

I think it's our strongest attack.
Recently Eto'o has been played as a winger, even though he should always be the CF. I never want to see Eto'o anywhere else but the CF position, and there's definitely no one I would rather have there than him. He is a beast and will do great for us when he gets some continuity in his natural position. He's played as a winger many times, and then Rijkaard puts him as a CF for a while and people want to bench him because he didn't do great. Well, you can't do great if you're moved around the pitch all the time. Give Eto'o his position as a CF and after a few games, you'll have the best striker in the world. But of course, later in the Racing game he was moved to the flank. I don't know what Rijkaard is thinking.

Henry plays best on the left side. That's a verified fact, we've been watching it at Arsenal. His best moves and most of his goals came when he was running down that side. With him ripping up the left flank, and Eto'o being the sharp knife in the middle, we have the most lethal attack.

Not to mention Messi. A bad game can happen to anyone. He's our most dangerous player and with his performances last season he deserves to start whenever he's fit. You just know this kid will deliver. If he was so great last season, imagine what he'll do with Henry instead of the static Ronaldinho, and with Eto'o back to his best.

Ronaldinho should be benched for quite a while. We have a more active player in Titi, we have the hardest worker and the most dangerous striker in Eto'o, we have the God, Messi, and we have two phenomenal youngsters in Giovani and Bojan. If it were up to me, Ronaldinho would be the last person I'd play. At least with Giovani and Bojan you know that those kids will bleed on the pitch.

-------

Milito's coming back so we don't have to fear the great Oleguer.

mmmm aahhhh , theirs no doubt la liga has started , because of the bitch fighting that is , i missed it so... :amika:

hehe true. it was mostly becuase of the stuff written in the RM thread in the preseason though. a couple of Barca posters were really "excited" with our preseason, so you can imagine the joy when you win the season opener by defeating your biggest city rivals, and your biggest title rival draws with a man up against a crappy team :). im sure you guys will be back in our thread with our first defeat :D.

On Ronaldinho, i think benching him would hurt his performance even more than now. he's playing like ****, but in my opinion, its more because he thinks some games can be won without trying much. another bad result for barca, or maybe not even that, and i think he'll see he needs to work hard if he wants to do anything with this team. on the bench, he'll just lose the motivation even more.
i know that sounds contradictory, but thats how i think Ronaldinho "works". He needs to feel challenged, on the bench he'll just get lazier. Plus, theres no way he'd be benched for more than a game, and thats not long enough to teach him a lesson. Maybe play him in the starting 11, then if he's **** the first half, halftime substitute him. That would send a clear message.
i hope i made sense there, but i doubt it :).

AS SAMPLE OF PAIN BY THE DEATH DE ANTONIO DOOR

The Barça suspends the previous acts to the Gamper

Barcelona has decided to suspend to all the tie previous acts to the celebration of the Trophy Joan Gamper, that will dispute to Wednesday the azulgrana equipment and the Inter of Milan, as sample of pain by the death of the soccer player of Seville Antonio Puerta.

The club has informed in an official notice that the Board of directors has decided to cancel the acts that were predicted and that the azulgrana organization will destine the ten percent of the collection of the party to the investigation of the cardiovascular diseases.

Before the party, the acts of tribute will be carried out to the ex- director Nicolau Casaus, deceased recently, as well as a minute of joint silence in memory of the ex- vice-president of the club and of Antonio Puerta.

We will donate a pathetic ten percent of our income from the Gamper game to research of the condition that Puerta suffered.

Ten percent?! That's all we can manage? :kader:

Great win, Toure scored a great goal.

I liked Giovani's the most, though.

I thought this would be some good competition, not a shooting practice.

First we should find our way past Athletic Club, and then think about the likes of Real Madrid. Tonight was a training session against Inter C or whatever. It indicates very little, IMO.

Bilbao will be much harder. That will be a real, competitive game with the opponent actually caring about whether they win or lose. Not to mention there will be pressure not only to win, but also to do it with style. I don't think the Racing game was such of a disappointment result-wise as it was in terms of how we actually played. The Camp Nou will expect a show from the team, and a win.

Bilbao aren't a tough nut to crack, but Racing aren't either, so we'll have to hope that Rijkaard lines them up right, and that the players show some spirit.

-------------------Valdes

Zambrotta---Marquez-----Milito---Abidal

-------------------Yaya
--------------Iniesta---Deco

Giovani-----------------------------Messi
-------------------Henry

That would be my pick.

It's a monster defense, even without Captain Puyol.

Yaya gives us something that we didn't have in midfield. He's really an awesome asset. He can not only shield the wizards that are Xavi and Iniesta, but also be very useful upfront with his ability to score and assist. Great player this guy is.

In attack Giovani should start. He's been great in preseason and has continued that form vs Inter C. Everytime he plays, he scores. He deserves to start now. I'd move Messiah to the left because, while Giovani could also play there, I wouldn't move him around just yet. I put Henry as the CF because Eto'o picked up an injury. It isn't serious but we'll see what the doctor says. Even if he's fit, we shouldn't force him. I'd play him in the second half.

Subs vs Bilbao in the 2nd half:

Deco out, Xavi in.
*Giovani out, Eto'o in.
Abidal out, Sylvinho in.

* After Eto'o comes in, he plays as the CF, Henry plays on the left and Messi returns to his position at AMR.

btw bybuti, new sig every day? (H)

i dont really see rijkaard having the balls to bench dinho , about etoo i dont think he's gonna have any choice , it seems etoo is gonna be out at least 3 weeks, bad news , but this time i think we have the proper players to replace him so i dont think is gonna hurt us that much.....

Vedran-10

Starting XI
I know I said Henry should always play on the left, but with Eto'o out we need someone to play the CF position and Henry is better there than both Giovani and Messi. Those two aren't strikers.
And you can't start with Ronaldinho in the centre, as that would mean he is the striker. We absolutely can't play that way, because we need someone active there, and Ronaldinho isn't the type of player to play the closest to the opponent's goal. He's the kind of player who needs options in front of him so he can distribute balls and create chances for other forwards. If he plays as the striker, it won't be good. He would have to run a lot to open himself for passes, he would have to attract defenders to make room for our other two forwards, he would have to run at defenders attempting dribbles... I can't see any of that. That isn't Ronaldinho, especially not nowadays.

Thanks bybuti, if I need a new sig, I'll ask. (Y)

well, Stuttgart were german champions, like Icky Thump said, Rangers are a bitch at home, and Lyon, when they get into form, are killer. so i really dont think you have an easy group.
