You got SAF saying he is happy with the players we got and the papers saying The Bundesliga side did want £20million to let Ozil move on but have now dropped their asking price by £8m.

Would be a great signing if we got him... but players bought based on world cup performance can be a recipe for disaster.

Ozil apparently was running Germany before the World Cup. I think at 20 million he would be a steal, but at 12 million, I don't think United "really" want him. Anyone even really surprised that SAF is happy with the "current" squad?

Well people seem to forget that we already have Anderson for the AM position. Bringing in Özil or another AM would kill his chances. And it surprises me that people are still calling for another striker whiles Hernandez will be joining the others next week. He showed what he can do at the WC and he has his age on his side. The same goes to Anderson by the way. The only concern for me is at the back, we have one of the best defences, but Rio's injury problems could become a problem, especially when Smalling is still finding his feet within the squad. Who knows, maybe he will fill the gap easily when Rio is not available. He had a good game against Celtic though....

And besides the players we should also consider the new regulations this coming season. This season we are only allowed a 25 head squad and a number of home grown players.... These are all aspects which we should take into consideration

I dont know why SAF is "happy with the squad". Currently our squad maybe good enough for the EPL but we dont have the quality to compete in Europe IMO. We definitely need a midfielder.

Ozil can also play on the wings. So you can have a team with both Anderson and Ozil playing. Anderson can occupy the left wing position as well at times. I thought Fergie said a few months ago that we will sign 1 more player. Now he's "happy with the squad". Typical Fergie response. Maybe he's right. Lets see.

Typical complacency by SAF. How can you be happy with a squad that won nothing last term?

Now, I will say this, I believe Chicharito was a great addition. I didn't know anything about him prior to this summer but after seeing him play in the WC, I am happy that he is coming to United and I believe he has it in him to be a great player for United's future. BUT, he is simply not enough.

Like I said, when the team wins no trophies last year you have to look at why. Too many injury-prone players, and not enough attacking power. I believe we will struggle with injuries again this season, and I am still not convinced that the strikers we have are enough.

SAF's apparent disinterest in landing Ozil is enough to make me really question his access to transfer funds at this point. Ozil is the type of player that SAF should be drooling over, he is another Ronaldo in waiting. If we can buy him now for 20 million or less, which should be no problem considering all the money we should and supposedly DO still have access to, the decision should be a no-brainer because he will be one of the best players in the world within 3-4 years. So if SAF claims that he is happy with the squad and doesn't want/need Ozil, it makes me think that he is just saying that to cover up the fact that he has been put on a leash by Malcolm the Deceiver.

I think Fergie has shown us time and time again that he knows what's required. If he says the squad's good enough, then that should be good enough for all of us.
I personally think the squad is lacking something in some areas but we should just wait and see.
I remember before the 06/07 season, when Chelsea were spending a lot of money, we only bought Carrick and everyone was saying that SAF has lost it and that we need to spend big to compete.

I also don't really understand your "typical complacency" remark, cfdemarco. It's not really a phrase I'd associate with SAF.

Ever since we sold Ronaldo, it's like he has no interest in making the team better.

Thats just plain absurd man. SAF has never lost interest in anything. Heck, if you ask me who more than anyone in the world wants united to win the 19th league title and one more champions league, it would be SAF,period.

How can you say that after just one season? When Ronaldo was sold he brought in Valencia and Obertan. Wasn't he trying to make the team better then? Considering the situation Valencia is still the right choice for me for replacing Ronaldo, he doesn't score a lot, that's obvious but he makes that up for giving a lot of assists. And besides that he's already used to the EPL.

And don't reply by saying they aren't as good as Ronaldo bla bla.... There are only one or two players better then him at the moment. And besides that when we bought Ronaldo, he was still relatively unknown, except for the FM players :innocent_smile_1: , the same could work for the younger players he has bought. And in your previous comment you mentioned that it simply isn't enough, well as I said before there are new regulations now restricting clubs for buying less and using the youth system more.

We also bought Vidic and Evra that year

True, although they were already bought in January 06, but point taken.
But anyway, Fergie's desire and drive can't be questioned.

"As of next season clubs will be required to have a squad named of up to 25 players, of which no more than 17 can be over the age of 21 and not home grown," Scudamore said.

"The definition of home grown is trained for three years under the age of 21 by somebody in the English and Welsh professional system.

"Clubs will have to declare their 25 at the end of August when the window shuts and then again at the end of January."

Players who are aged under 21 are eligible over and above the limit of 25 players per squad.

That means 8 of the squad must be under 21 and had of trained in the UK for 3 years. Guess that means we will be buying in foreign players at an even younger age. Will be interesting too see if the rule increases chances for English players or not. I suspect it wont.

Yeah I also think that will be the result of the new regulations.

There are just no funds available, when will you lot face the reality?

welbeck and obertan linked up for the winning goal last night... 1-0. I was expecting more goals. There looking good though.

Yeah now ESPN is reporting that he has signed a long-term contract with us. So that's good.
