help! why do defense play bad!!!!!

Hi there i need help with Football Manager i need to find the best team instructions and players instructions too
i have been playing it for a bit now and cant figure out why my defense let so may goals in and they let alot away from home too
I play 442.
but i need to know why my defense play crap!
if any one could help it would be appreciated

i have been playing with liverpool and have a good players such as bonera mexes but they but they seem to run away from the players and the other teams strikers walk through and score i have no probs with strikers i have cisse and robinho and cavangih up front cisse has score about 37 goals in one season and robinho has scored 28 goasl but i let in about 1 or 2 goals a game maybe i need to put instructions on my defenders please help

should i do all 4 defenders on closing down or just the central defs

GK on 4, SWs + DCs on 10, FBs on 14, DMCs on 14, Ms on 16, AMs on 18, and F/S on 20 is what I do.

I prefer zonal marking, but that's maybe just me. I do set 1 of my 2 DMC's to manmark their (best) striker. The other DMC is a little bit more offensive, I also have a MC who comes back to defend. Only conceded 10 goals in the whole season with psv in the league.

The defenders all have their slider too most defensive. I dont like those backs coming up.

I have Vogel manmarking their most important striker. If its a very good team I let Cocu manmark too. Van Bommel is mostly offensive, but he comes defending too. And dont give the defenders creative freedom. Defenders have to be uncreative. Otherwise they'll maybe go on a walk or whatever.

Yea i also play zonal marking for my defenders. Also for closing down i have the D's and DM to own area and Mids and F's to All over and that seems to work really well. I dont click the tight marking option.

I just do the set to preset thing on my players, it works for me

I use a 4-4-2 DA.

2 DC has zonal marking but mark tallest man when a corner
DMC has man marking, CPU decides who to mark, except rival has an AMC

then, DR/DL has almost no defensive options as I love to attack, centering and long-shotting'em

I was just wondering what does everyone here set there defensive line to?

I have it to the first tick of push up so i was just wondering what everyone else uses.

i play a normal defensive line i dont like to push them to far back as it makes your opponents attack u but also dont like to push them too far up as the defense my get countered easy
but would like to know what other people play
