That is not a good enough excuse.

You should forget that FIFA rubbish. Post in the other threads.

By "building", people often still get someone else to make it for them. They just choose the parts etc

I probably saved around 200-300 euros by "building it myself". Which isn't exactly a minimal sum.

Just ordered all the parts from some website. And since i know nothing about putting a pc together myself, i just asked my friend who's interested in that kind of stuff if he'd be willing to build it for me. He agreed to do it for free. It didn't even take him that long.

So the hassle i had to go through was just going outdoors to meet the courier and picking up two boxes.

I would build my PC as well, allows me to pick and choose what I want in terms of specs. And since I have access to my choosing of OS, it makes my life easier. And with on-line distributor, I can buy parts at great prices.

Yeah, I agree. It saves 100s of $ to build your own pc. I built my own for $700, and compared to the deal I got, it would've been $1200+ for the high end parts I got. So, I don't think labor is worth $500. Definitely worth to build your own if you have the know-how.

What do you guys do to install windows on a newly built PC? Pay for the DVD? I am just curious. I have never built one but I download Window for free without a glitch (don't ask me how).

You get exactly what you want and don't have to spend hours upon hours trying to find that perfect blend of specs and price. Then when you do find it, it's from an unreliable company, or refurbished, or whatever. I can get everything including a good graphics card, lcd monitor, and windows 8 license for under $700. Specs I'm looking at are a 3+ ghz CPU, Radeon HD 7770, 8 GB RAM, and 1 TB HDD with a monitor for that price. The only things that come close either have AMD CPUs (ehhh) or Intel HD Graphics (fuck no).

Are you looking for a core i5 or i7? If you are looking for an i5, you can get an already built PC for that price including the monitor. I have seen these specs being sold for $550 for the CPU unit including free mouse and keyboard. Add $150 to it then you're done.

That's basically my computer except mine is two years old. At the time it cost me roughly 700 bucks to build it, but I ended up having to shell out 200 bucks for Windows 7 after trying and failing to get a burnt copy to work. So overall it was actually 900 bucks total. It's still working great, so no complaints. Maybe a RAM upgrade would be nice, but I don't use it too strenuously to be a big necessity.

I've been fortunate enough to have a few friends that have been able to get me a legit Windows copy. I don't ask how they do it, just happy that they can do it.

I'm no expert on this subject, but why not get an SSD as well? It doesn't necessarily have to be a large one. 128 or 256 GB would do the trick. If you're going to buy a good PC then i'd recommend getting one. Although i don't know how costly they are right now.

I have a 128 GB SSD + 1 TB HDD. The SSD is purely for the OS (i use win7) and all the important programs that i use daily. It would also be good for installing games on it, those that take a while to load. Now i don't know which kind of games you play or if you play any at all, but i thought i'd just point that out.
And the HDD is just for other random stuff like media, large files, etc etc.

It is just so much faster than a regular hard drive. I haven't exactly counted, but it probably takes around 10-15 seconds for the PC to boot up to windows, with all the applications already running. I couldn't even imagine having a slower PC with just HDD anymore. But that is just my personal preference.

The same way. You burn it, and go to the bios menu of the new machine and choose to boot from DVD

I'm taking a short course on hardware so I'm getting a bit more knowledgeable in the subject so I think I'll build my next PC when I need to get one. I am a bit nervous about picking out the right motherboard and the right case that will fit though.

It's all about the form factor of your case to the form factor of your motherboard. Atx to atx form, etc. Basically that's all you need to worry about when putting the motherboard in; that and static.

Another method is doing the same with a USB flash drive. Saves you from wasting a blank DVD.

SSD makes very little difference to gaming performance but makes a huge difference in boot up time, copying files etc. SSDs are quite expensive but a good idea to have your OS in.

Link that sh*t man. Decent graphics card too?

E: This is what you're competing with. Plan would be to install windows from a flash drive.
