So say the Americans. Everytime I turn on the news it is either about Zidane or about how "crap" the PK system is. The producers have given these dopes 5 extra minutes to fill with soccer, so they pull this out of their asses. The worst part is they don't get anyone that knows soccer to argue with them, they get other dopes to agree with them.

Their solution is to just play the match out until someone gets a winner......are you kidding me?

in a typical contest, soccer players run for a total of 10-11 kilometers(6 miles) sprint for about 800-1200 metres, accelerate 40-60 different times, and change direction every five seconds or so.

Soccer is like no other sport in the world, can Basketball, Baseball, Hockey, Cricket or Tennis players say they do that in every game? And 6 miles is based mostly on college levels, not even taking into account the international level.

Each team only gets 3 subs for 11 players, how can you expect human beings to go through that without any type of long term rest?

PKs are no doubt the best option, during this world cup most of the matches were pretty hard to watch once they went into overtime, no one seemed to want to run. Imagine how bad it would be if they had to play until someone scored with no time-limit set in place?

stupid-ass americans.

I don't agree.

I don't like PKs, they really have nothing to do with the game of football. It does show nerves and skill in striking the ball versus a goalkeeper but that is not a way to end a game, especially important ones like the world cup final.

Sure you may say they are very entertaining to watch, but instead of them imagine teams playing to win in extra time, giving it their all, knowing that they need to score to win. I say put the golden goal rule in place and play till a team scores a goal... If you are scared the players will get fatigued as a coach then force them to attack more to end it all (at the same time taking the risk of getting scored on.)

Stop being pussies, no wonder the sport is considered like that. Trust me if the rules were changed like this I'm sure it wouldn't be too big of a problem for a goal to be scored...

Yeah I hate penalties too.

I say after the 30 minutes of extra time, just throw everyone on there... subs, coaches, waterboys. All out deathmatch. FULL CONTACT. WE WANNA SEE BLOOD. (H)

That would definitely get Americans interested in the game.

i like PK's, they are way too intense :D :P

but shoot outs (shoot outs are the one-on-one with the keeper) would be awesome :P...

Penalty kicks are a major thrill, but it certainly is extremely hard to watch the team you support lose like that.
if you're a neutral it's so much fun though :corn:

and hey, it beats the coin flip by a mile.

the "american" idea is just inconceivable if you ask me.

I know, I was only kidding. That'd be pretty hilarious though...

Maybe before each half of extra-time, allow both teams a couple extra substitutions to get some fresh legs in the game. If that doesn't achieve a winning goal.......... then I don't know.

Allow the use of hands?

I think that the 15 min half-time overtimes are stupid. I like the idea but 15 min is too short, they need to just have one overtime period and make it 30 minutes so players don't just play until the end of 15 minutes. AlsoI if there is nothing after 120 minutes each team gets 3 more subs for 30 more minutes.

I have to agree somewhat. There's nothing more annoying than seeing the biggest prize in football coming down to what, for all intents and purposes, ends up being something of a lottery,

well.. PK's are fun to watch it brings you over the edge at your seat like nothing else but does that really show who the better team is ?

They have to switch sides incase one side of the field presents an advantage.

I don't know, like Ahmed says there is just no way players are prepared to play games stretching to possibly 3 hours long in some instances. It's a bad way to end it, but there really is no other way you can do it.

I think they should shrink the field, and let the subs play a 5 a side match for the title.

LOL

they should have 30 yard free kicks with no walls

they should play til someone scores a goal. it just seems more fair to me than having a game decided on penalty kicks.

should be able to have more substitutions if it goes to overtime too.

They could do what works in hockey, after 30 mins of extra time just play periods of sudden death and/or they could reduce the players on the field to open the field up more.

the golden goal rule should be brought back and if that wont prevail then on to the shootouts.
Plain and simple. Thats football. we all love it
