Five years ago today, I was in the basement of my house, skipping school and masturbating to the previous month's Maxim magazine while the Howard Stern show was in the background.........boy was that show emotional, man. I mean, it happened like a few minutes from their building.........they'd basically had front row seats for that tragedy..........sheesh. They were reporting on it as the events were taking place much better than any news media could ever imagine, man.

It definitely shook my balls to the core and left a serious dent on me emotionally for quite a while.

I was sitting in my office (production office in TO) and we were in wrap mode, so it was pretty relaxed. Then one of the ADs called and told us to turn on the TV and we saw live as the second plane went into the tower.

Wow, we were in shock. I guess that those kinds of actions had always been at arm's length, safely on the other side of the world or at least removed from our cocoon of North American safety. That day brought home to many North Americans the hard reality of a harsh world which in other countries is a part of day to day existence.

RIP to all those who died in the 9/11 tragedy and to all those many more who have died in the endless stupidity of wars over ideology, religion and financial interest.


*On a better note, 2 years ago this afternoon, the universe blessed me with a beautiful baby daughter.

For me it was the first day of school (started later that year) and we just heard about it in one class, the whole class was silent for about 5 minutes afterwards cause we knew what this meant and a eventhough none of us were affected we wonderd what the future would bring with terror attacks and such.

As I said earlier, it's still hard to take in. That day changed all of us. For weeks after people here, thousands of miles away were still in shock at what happened. It should remind us all that we all have a duty on this planet to work towards such a cataclismic horror never happening again.

I woke up at 5:45, the same time the 1st plane hit. I was sitting on my bed watching t.v. and for some reason I thought I was watching a movie or something, then the reporter said this was happening in New York. Right about the time, the cameras cought the 2nd plane crashing...then nobody knew what the hell was going on.

I left for school thinking about what the hell had just happened, by the time my 2nd class started, the news had been broken about this terrorist attack. I came home to see that my mother, who'd given birth 2 days ago, was sitting infront of the t.v. and saw that she was devastated. I felt really bad for her, she kept talking about how she'd seen the whole event break down, those images of people jumping out of the building stuck in her mind and till this day she can't get over that.

R.I.P. to everybody that died on that day.

I had just come home from school, when a friend of mine, who's very pro-America, called. He told me I had to switch on the telly, so I did and the first image I saw was the burning South tower(I think), the other tower had already gone down. Than, as I was still busy processing what I saw, the second building broke down aswell.

Later I watched a documentary about a French journalist who was the only one who had filmed the first plane crashing in. Best documentary about 9/11 by far, very impressive.

Anyway, I was in my Honors Spanish class when the first plane hit, but I didn't learn about the unspeakable tragedy being played out across the Eastern Seaboard until about an hour later. We watched coverage of the attacks for the rest of the day, as everyone in the school just stood there, with a look of stunned disbelief. Some even were sobbing uncontrollably, because they had family and close friends working in Manhattan. Five years later, I still don't know why a group of terrorists decided to abruptly end the lives of thousands of innocent men and women. Unfortunately, we may never know exactly why they did it, but one thing is sure: we will never forget, we will always remember.

Wow, five years already. I must have been 13 then - too young to even get a taster of the delights of a pre-9/11, pre-"War on Terror" world I heard it first on the bus radio on the way home from school, but all the morons on the bus were talking and laughing and shouting so loud that I didnt really know what it was about until I got home. I remember staying up all night watching the news coverage and coming in the next day with all my fancy, illinformed, media fed opinions.

Seriously though, I dont know which I hate most, the actual attacks or the still ongoing aftermath.

RIP to all those who died in the attacks AND to all those who have died in the subsequent wars, retaliatory attacks to those wars, retaliatory attacks to those retaliatory attacks and the whole damn post-9/11 mess.

The actual attacks were surreal but I still say Beslan and Munich are ahead of it in the tragedy triangle.

When you consider how many live and worked in the Towers and stacked it up with the actual death toll, you could call it a relatively successful rescue. Of course, the aftermath ropes in the fact that the firefighters are now battling cancers, respiratory problems and trauma.

In terms of the event, it was a massive security oops. Resulting in nobody doing anything about the planes themselves. Beslan was a big oops on the count of distraught parents storming the place with guns. And Munich was just Germany's efficiency stereotype going out the window.

Now, for some reason, 7/7 was just good television, to me.

it was innocent, and Bush was relatively loved, people just used to take the piss out of his phrases. "Most of America's imports come from outside the country" or whatever.

I was coming home from school, mum told me in the car, she was condesending enough to ask me if i knew what the World Trade Centre was. Come on mum, i'm 15

Remember just watching in complete disbelief, never seen anything like it, doubt i ever will. Watching them collapse was just unbelieveble. I know what Shindig means though, it was more surreal than it was "god, imagine the amount of people dying", it was such good coverage, that it was like a film.

I remember 9/11 like it was yesterday, and i cant honestly believe its now been five years.

I was playing CS when my mother screamed to me from the livingroom that planes were crashing into buildings in new york, but I was to into the game to leave the computer so I watched it on the news later that day.

I had just got out of an exam (yes, I finish exams quite quickly), and headed to the Uni's cafeteria, and got the news that way. I wouldn't have classes for the rest of the day, so I just went home and watched the news. Man, that day was terrible.
