The only reason I ever checked the Fifa forums was to have a look at the My Game thread. I play PES a lot more than FIFA, so I've decided to start a thread here for your cup, master league or be a legend games. Come in here and share your stories.

I'll post my stories up later when I have more time.

P.S

Yes, this forum is beyond dead, but so many people play PES, surely some of them will have something to share.

I had a pretty fun time in PES 2009 for PS2 Legend Mode. My character started at some Dutch team, I was in Newcastle by January, and at Real Madrid in a few years. It's fun to score over 100 goals in a season, and it just kept getting easier as my long shots got better and better. Best part was that I could make the character look a LOT like me; face, hair, facial hair, body type were all pretty much exactly how I would look on a pitch.

I'd recommend FIFA, only if you have a ps3, for your be a pro stories then.. PES3, PES4, PES5, PES6 and WE:LE2007 were great but since 2008, after playing a couple of months of Master League with PES, I quit playing the game altogether.. and this tops with the 2010.. PES2008 and PES2009 took some time to suit my taste, but this year I tried fifa for ps3.. it's still way beyond being a delightful game but it's much better than pes crap..

after a few months of Fifa, I've downloaded PESEdit.com patch and started a ML game with Barcelona in Professional Difficulty.. and I stopped playing after half a year.. my god the gameplay is disgusting, the players are not responsive enough and the ref is a piece of crap to say the least.. not a single penalty awarded to my team.. so now; I quit playing PES, I just dont want to play Fifa again with outdated rosters and I dont want to play world cup 2010 cos I dont wanna play with national teams.. and there's still at least two months before the new PES/Fifa games.. crap..

sorry for the weeping post..

I've played PES in PES5 first time and tried 2010 again, because of somewhat disappointment of FIFA at that time. I played CL mode because of no EA games for CL mode and also enjoyed be a legend mode. I started at a Turkish team and finally settled in Man Utd and yeah, applying my face into a player was really cool. It was one of my favorate thing to try creating a team. I stopped PES after this march and now playing fifa 09 with original roster. Looking at FIFA consoles, I want to try them......

next gen? when did you last play? coz you can definitely beat a keeper at his near post in FIFA 10 next gen ... and the 2010 World Cup game shows marked improvement in several aspects from FIFA 10 ...

I too liked putting faces into the game using photos when playing PES on PC a couple of years ago -- not just mine, but all my favourite players who didn't already have an in-game face ...

you should definitely try next gen gaming on consoles ... there is a world of difference ... though, having said that, they are apparently trying mould the FIFA 09 next gen gameplay for FIFA 11 PC ... it's a full 2 years behind the consoles, but at least they're trying ... I can't stand it though; FIFA on console, or nothing for me, now ...

Yeah 360. I can stay competitive with much more experienced friends because unlike them I actually know something about football, so I set up a competent tactic and don't just run through the middle. However, it pisses me off when every time I get into the box and try to blast it near post it hits the keeper in the hands. Pisses me off even more when I try shots from 25+ yards out and my friends just laugh claiming it's virtually impossible to score from there when given the same amount of time in real life someone like Gerrard will bury it frequently.

4-2-3-1 is so effective at frustrating non-soccer people. The 2 DMs snuff out every single attack. Being a student of German football since before I can remember, I focus on the wings, where most FIFA players are not used to defending.

beating a keeper at his near post confirmed.. also, I've managed to score considerable amount of goals from long shots and freekicks, and some of them were xabi alonso style.. it is difficult to score long shots against first division gk's though, I was playing manager mode with roterham and lower division gk's are more likely to concede from long range..

I have PES 2010 on PS2 and Fifa 2010 on the PC and neither of them is really that good. Fifa's better career mode is it's selling point for me, but gameplay at the PES is better and more fun.

yeah, 4-2-3-1 (customized to specs) is the modern way to go in real life, and in the game too ... the noobs do what you say (blindly pressing through ball and hoping to spring the offside trap on the break down the middle) ... but if you play some of the higher ranked players, you'll see a good variety of approaches (including some 5-2-3s that were rather interesting) ... I'm ranked 32 in the world for the 2010 WC game, though that may have slipped a little coz I haven't played in a couple of weeks now ... I expect I'll still be top 50-60 ...

sounds like you just need to get used to the subtleties in direction control (which may not necessarily be intuitive to everyone) ...

in addition for a low drive at the next post, if you have a tight angle, the roof shot (think Donovan vs. Slovenia) is a very good option to consider -- I've got it down pat, and it is unstoppable when perfectly executed (as it is in real life) ...

oh you totally can ... especially with English players, who are the most overrated in FIFA games ... I've scored some 35-yard screamers with Stevie G, Wazza, Lamps, even Defoe ... and I hardly ever play with England (usually only when I feel like blasting people away with overrated superplayers) ...

on PC/PS2, PES have been the purists' choice in the past decade (myself included) ... and Konami's ISS had a similar reputation in the late 90s on PS1/N64 ... I mean FIFA's career mode was the sh!t, and the RTWC releases were awesome, but gameplay has nothing to do with game modes ...

next gen is a no-contest win for FIFA though, on all fronts ... actually, PES on next gen doesn't feel any different than PES on PC from a couple of years ago ... maybe that'll change in a couple of years, but FIFA rules the next gen roost now ...

I have PES 09 and did the Legend Mode. It was pretty fun... played for ten years and I was Ronaldo clone. I commanded the field right behind the striker, had all the moves, great speed and won the league with Dep. La Coruna. Then I joined Chelsea, won the Champions League, which I couldn't do with my previous team and lost interest.

Fifa is an alright game. It's a bit over hyped I would say. I still play it. I'm in my 5th season with Hibernian and my players are all rated in the mid 70s yet my 4-3-3 counter formation seems to beat every one on World Class mode. The problem with Fifa is that it has the option to sim which after a few seasons of playing every single game a la PES, I started getting sim happy.

Then the scouted players are nameless which is really aggravating. So one the created players start to overtake the game, I start over. I think if they tweaked Manager Mode, the game would be a lot more fun.

Anyway, after a decent showing in the try-out match, I got offers from West Ham, Bolton and Birmingham and went with the latter. My main position is SS, 2nd ST and 3rd AMC. Basically I was hoping to mold into a Trequartista, who sits behind the striker (or strikers) and uses the space he gets to slot in the perfect final pass. Unfortunately, teams always line-up with the same initial formation so after a few games on the bench I was given a starting role as a ST, but I had neglected my shooting and dribbling skills in favor of passing, so it turned into a difficult season.

A lot of draws, goal-less matches and lots and lots of missed chances. We ended up 8th after I started getting used to the game, and also managed to beat runaway champs Chelsea for the FA Cup. The next season was very successful as I really grew into the role, being top provider in the league with 14 assists, 2nd top scorer with 22, and we got 2nd. We fell to Lyon in the quarters of the Europa League after I was only given 45 minutes in the tie. And I scored twice in a repeat final but got subbed and Chelsea tied the match, but we clinched it on penalties. I decided that was enough though, and moved to Bordeaux for a shot at a league title.

I've only just started, but I've clinched a starting role as an AMC, which is close enough, because I get to do what I wanted to as an SS, although with more defending involved. So far I've basically been running the team, using the space to not only put in a great ball, but also run into the space the defenders give me when marking the strikers, and score a few goals.

Also, capped twice for Israel, 6-0 against Bosnia and 5-1 against Italy, absolutely bossing the game as a striker.

BAL is fun.

Finished the season running away with the league with 100 points, and winning the French Cup, but getting eliminated by eventual winners Juventus at the Semis, having played only 70 minutes of the tie, sparking rumors of a possible rift with the manager.

Played mostly as an AMC, ocasionally as an ST, bagged 47 goals and 30 assists in 50 matches, also led Israel to the Euro 2012, where we've beaten Turkey 4-0 with me as lone striker, and we have Croatia next, and I'll be playing as an MC.

I might try to win the CL with Bordeaux before moving on, but if Ajax, Chelsea or a good Italian or Spanish team come in for me, I'm out of here.

**** yeah bitches, Chelsea signed me and I've scored and/or assisted in every game, getting a starting place within 3 matches.

Also led Israel to the Euro finals, losing to Spain on pens after getting subbed at the 80th minute. Still good.

How do you get that? I've got the Best Player award for every competition yet. I assume that's for the World Cup?

For the last couple of years I have to say PES has gotten dethroned by FIFA on the next-gen. Besides the fact that EA has stopped caring for PC users, my hat's off to them for this FIFA10. That being said, I obviously only play PES in the PC, but haven't for a while because my controller got damaged (I wonder why :D)...

I had PES6 last installed, and I was doing pretty good with my Babel-Huntelaar-Mitea partnership upfront in my Ajax team (H)
