With Viera he was probably thinking that Gilberto plays the same position as him and Arsenal have lost something like 2 games in 2 years with him in the lineup. With Pires he was probably thinking he has two fine wingers in Reyes and Ljungberg. Sol Campbell is over 30. I've been out of the transfer loop, have they really sold all three guys? Wow! But honestly, there isn't one unjustifiable move, especially with the amount of money they got for Viera.

Only Viera's deal has been completed but Pires is highly likely to leave as well. Campbell is being offered in a deal to bring Jenas from Newcastle. I'm just suprised that after all the drama of the previous season, Viera's transfer was very quiet.

Wenger has been here before, he knows what hes doing. Yes Vieira is a big player, and we will miss him when we need someone to dig us out of a hole and drive the team forward, but we can compensate for his loss as a team. Arsenals style of football doesnt seem to suffer that much when Vieira's not there. In fact arsenal's passing sometimes become a little bit quick because we are not always looking for Patrick for the safe ball all the time

Seriously though Vieira always seemed to do something to help Arsenal out when they needed it, and for people saying he won't be missed they are just in denial. A player like Vieira will be missed, but it isn't the end of the world. Arsenal have Gilberto and 14million in place of Vieira, thats adequate enough to fill his boots.
