What do you all think about MLS teams being in the Champions League?

I'm just curious, as both a football fan and an American, what many of you think of perhaps admitting the top teams in the American MLS into the Champions league each year.

I understand there are some problems with this:

A) Travel
That damned Atlantic is kind of big

B) The difference on what time of year the leagues Begin and End.
If i understand correctly, the Group stage of the CL begins about the same time that the MLS league is wrapping up, thereby providing some of the American teams with no other matches that week than the ones in the CL

Again, this is all hypothetical, but i think it can be said that the standard for MLS teams is rising, and in a few years I could see the MLS gaining parity with maybe the English Division 1.

So, what do you all think? Yanks in the Champions league?

ummm

Champions League is a UEFA competition.

MLS is a USA League, USA is a CONCACAF nation.

So no. MLS teams play in the CONCACAF Champions Cup.

LOL I understand its farfetched, and their not even in the same federation

The main issue here is comparing the quality of US teams to that of the European clubs

yea, i know, its crazy

well, if anything, the top brazillian and argentinian teams would get the chance first. though id like to see an MLS team play a top european team, just to see how the mls calibre is.

Focus on trying to dominate other CONCACAF countries' clubs first (its not that hard :p ) then start "dreaming". ;)

NO WAY!!!! No Americans in such a beutiful competition, they'd ruin the rep of the competition. they wouldnt even make it to the group stage bcuz teams like aek Athens would eliminate way before that. I disagree on that idea.

Nah stupid idea, the whole point of the Champions League is to find the best team in Europe, so putting in teams from any other federation would ruin it..

This is terrible. It's for European teams! Maybe then you want to admit all teams to a tournmanet like they had in Brazil in 2000? Russian teams have to play their games when season's over/just beginning. This is absurd. I can't believe you said it.

Ignoring the fact that the Champions League was designed for teams from Europe, American MLS teams are nearly not good enough to even compete in the CL. The MLS is the equivalent of Italy's Serie B.

Please MLS teams are not even at the same level of teams like Boca, River, Sao Paolo or any south american team.... IF you ever are allowed to enter the Libertadores Cup MLS' team would be killed.

So, imagine what Milan, Real, ManU or any other big team of Europe can do to them...

That's a NO-NO :kader:

Possibly the dumbest idea ever.

:D This is the opinion I expected to receive;)

My own opinion on the matter is that the MLS teams should not be admited into the CL (Btw, this was all Hypothetical, there WILL BE NO MLS IN THE CL, in case anyone missed that)

However, in the future, i think it might be a good idea to start a tournament for club teams from all over the world to compete

Might be kinda cool
