Italy is an excellent team, they just aren't performing well for their standards... but one thing i have to admit: they've got an hell of a defence, and that's why a very good Australian side couldn't capitalize, being one man up!
Italy has got the potential and a f***** great defence to get to the final, that's for sure... but i just feel sorry for the Aussies... at least, they could lose, by not being robbed... they were starting to grow in confidence, as the game progressed... people did feel that Australia could get something out of that game, and they could actually...

I think it's pretty obvious that this World Cup needs to be restarted. The referees have decided the outcomes of most of the games and it will be impossible to ever know who was actually the best team.

they actually can also playing offensive style, just like in the 1st match
but as we know......win is more than anything in Italian soccer dictionary, so they played (and will still play like that) with defensive, extra caution and slow but they also deadly in attacking. It's just they refused to play offensive
a decently reffed game with 2 bad calls, I don't see how people can say that the ref handed the game to Italy, was he suddenly paid off by the Italians after he sent of Materazzi wrongly?
all in all a tough loss to take for Australia, Italy played better overall but in the end it's Australia's fault for not capitalizing on almost an entire half of 11v10.

I'm glad the Italians are happy that it took them a farcical injury-time penalty to overcome a "very average" Australian team. Daylight robbery at its best. I don't want to hear Italians b*tch about dodgy refereeing for the next 50 years.
Nevertheless, i'm not upset at the loss so much as i am at the fashion in that it happened. It didn't look like we were going to find a goal from anywhere even when we were a man up, and most of that is down to the superb Italian defending, and even if it did go down to penalties you'd think the Italians would have the goods to still come through.
But when you consider that Australia only qualified to the world cup on the back of a penalty shootout victory over Uruguay, and that Hiddink has barely been at the helm of the Australian team for 7 or 8 months, with the task of preparing a team that only came together for International friendlies a dozen times in the last 2 or 3 years. Its brilliant that we've got this far and given the Brazilians, Italians and others such a tough contest, I'm proud of the team no matter what, and we definately have a bright future in Asia.
We'll be back in 4 years time bigger and better, so bring on South Africa 2010.
Congrats Italy, f*(k you Luis Medina Cantalejo, and well done Lippi on another brilliant game plan, it should get you far with the quality of the refereeing in this WC.
