well... even japan beat us in the olympics. :p

brazil played, if i'm not mistaken, 4 times with african sides in world cups - 4 wins.
Bah, I just wanted something to make me feel happy. The team I wanted to win just lost 4-1. Go to the USA-Ghana thread and see what the guys have done there for losing 2-1...

Anyways, for the record...

Brazil 3-0 Zaire 1974
Brazil 1-0 Algeria 1986
Brazil 3-0 Cameroon 1994
Brazil 3-0 Morocco 1998

But none of them were in knockout stages!

My problem? supporting other teams, I suppose?

What's your problem with that? I shouldn't? My grandparents are all japanese. Brazil are already through. Any problem with me wanting Japan to win and qualify, with Brazil already there?

EDIT: There's already 2 threads explaining why I don't want Brazil to win. Usually, they win, and I don't give a damn. Much like Chelsea or Man Utd. However, I do want them to lose MORE when Brazil plays Japan or England, like I want Chelsea or Man Utd to lose MORE when they play Liverpool...

Bring on the Ghanaians then. Dida will have nightmares about 1996. (Yeah, I know it was Nigeria back then... but still... we always had trouble with african sides, at least in the olympics...)

This doesnt sound like supporting your country aswell. You may not like the players, but they're representing a nation out there. And we're that nation. So why cheer against it?

EDIT - Well, i can do it too. Wanting Brazil to lose for pure politics is just dumb. We all know people are going to be talking about the WC if we win or we lose regardless. When the WC is over we still have the Libertadores finals and the second part of the Brazilian Championship.

If football is a reason for us people forgetting the problems the country is facing, we will never get rid of them unless we ban football altogether.

I don't think those players are representing our nation. How many of them actually care about what's going on here?

Again, I've explained two times why I think Brazil losing would benefit the country. I don't feel like doing that again. I may be right, and I may be wrong, and you may agree or disagree with my reasons, you're well entitled to an opinion. Just don't think I have a problem for not agreeing with yours.

EDIT: The congress doesn't stop working on a Libertadores final, nor on a Brazilian league fixture. The banks don't care if there's a Corinthians vs. Sao Paulo match at 16.00 on a Wednesday.

Again, support Brazil all you want, get your face painted in yellow and green, go out to drink and have fun. I have absolutely no problem with that. It's just that I won't do it.

You're arguing against facts. Once they put the yellow and green shirt in a official football competition with the CBF symbol on it, they ARE representing the country Brazil. If they represent the country, they represent the nation. That's a fact, it's official, and you cant deny it. If they care or not about what's happening, it's not a matter of not representing the nation. It's a matter of doing it goodly or badly.

I expressed myself badly. When i said "what's your problem", i meant "what's up with cheering against us" anyway. You gave the reasons, and i disagree with them, yes. Football indeed takes the attention from more important matters. However, that's not football's fault. It's ours. Brazil winning or losing wont make us lose the love for the sport, and wont make us stop talking about football. So it's better if we win and have a few more smiles, rather than a crappy country with a dumbarse president with nothing to be happy about.

Football wasnt made to be "pão e circo" politics. It turned to be like it because of us.

EDIT - You did it again! (H)! Anyway, yes, point taken. But the rest of all the people do care about it. And the Congress lately doesnt change anything, they even got bought by money ffs. And it's not the World Cup fault, or Brazil's NT fault, or Ronaldo's fault. Again, it's ours.

Also, sorry mate, but i work from 8:30 to 5 PM, and i go to Uni at night. I have tons of reasons for loving the World Cup. One is leaving work 2 hours earlier. (H)

Ok, it was me who expressed in a bad way there. Officially, yeah, they're representing Brazil. However, imho, the NT is not the country. So I reserve myself the right to like the country, yet dislike the NT. I happen to dislike the NT, and I don't think there's anything wrong with that, even if I do admit it's unusual.

Football in itself is not guilty of anything. It can't be, it's just a game, for goodness' sake. I also agree with you that the people is responsible for what the people make of football, being more important than other stuff when it shouldn't be. Brazil losing today won't change it, nor will it change it if they lose to Ghana or whoever.

But like someone famous said, and sorry for not remembering who it was, and probably not quoting exactly. It was something like this: "World Champions don't overthrow governments". Maybe it was an argentinean during the '78 World Cup, maybe it was one of our military governments.

All the football fans will continue to discuss it. Hell, I like football too. I just think that once the NT is crap, neutrals won't jump in the World Cup bandwagon. That would be a major progress.

I wonder if the World Cup was next year, whether we'd still be having reports on mensalao, instead of the "Ronaldo woke up at 10 and will have lunch by noon" we're having now. Also, whether more people would have heard of the mensalao if they weren't paying attention only to the sports page in the papers.

The NT is not the country. It represents it. Also, the mensalão happened way before the World Cup and our NT doesnt have anything to do it. The sports page was talking of Corinthians, São Paulo, Palmeiras or something else.

The World Cup is once in 4 years mate, that's what i'm saying. And it's only for a month. How about the other 3 years and 11 months? You dont have neutrals jumping on bandwagons there. And how's it better exactly?

Anyway, i wont discuss anymore. Both you and me have fair points and we know it. We are not going to agree in this matter, even tho we do support the same football club and we seem to agree in a lot of stuff. This is not the case, and i respect your opinion. Cheers and happy World Cup.

the score is very flattering to the game. very boring.

Cicinho is good but lacks the final ball. very disappointed in that aspect.

when Robinho plays like this, I wonder why he still struggles at Real?

Ok, fair enough.

I don't even know why it bothers you though. If you're happy when the NT wins, and I'm sad when that happens, I'm pretty sure you're having a much better life than me.

As for the mensalao stuff, the nt takes space on the news, that's what my point was about. Combine that with compulsory voting, and you have reasons to worry.

But still, enjoy the World Cup too. Just don't count on me celebrating ;)

How excatly does he struggle with us? In our crappy season last year he was one of the few things to look forward to.

Watching this game Robinho looked damn good playing in the center with some freedom to move around, he was very active and had a good game imo. That LB Gilberto looks good when he attacks.

yeah, i got it. i was supporting japan also. i'm still pissed off due to the match against australia (pissed off with the japs players, not the aussies, of course -- despite the fact i hate kewell).

but, unlike you, i support the brazilian nt. and very unlike you, i (almost) always support any team against england. don't ask me why, i really don't know. :p

some hours before this match against brazil i finished the nippon challenge on winning eleven 10 (six stars; final 2-1 against italy; 1st goal by italy). oh, well :(
