WC 2010 SF: Germany vs Spain [P + R]

Krypton X

Senior Squad
Frustrating game to watch. Germany showed nothing of the supreme confidence they carried into the Argentina game. They looked sluggish, maybe tired, and their lack of depth hasn't been more evident, I think Muller would've buried that chance Kroos had. It's been said Gemany have become the new Holland, but I was hoping they wouldn't choke like them too.

Spain executed their plan perfectly, suffocated the Germans of space and possession the way only the Spaniards know so well. Pedro should not be allowed to start again, that ball hogger. Credit to Spain, they'll be hard to beat.

Yes, he is. For a moment,I tought he's gonna send Pique's head into the goal just to make everything possible to Spain. Fantastic!

Having played for over a decade as a centre back and going up for corners... Goals like Puyol's tonight give me a hard on.

I was never a center back, but I was always one of the tallest and strongest guys on the pitch, so normally I love those goals too. Strangely, most of the goals I scored were finesse, in fact I'd say my game was probably closest to fat Ronaldo's past year than anything else. I even took the corners as I got older. I'm sure keepers HATED getting rounded by a dude who looked like he should play American football (H)

Germany did nothing.

Yes but if Germany had Muller I think they would have done something. Sadly we'll never know how he would have changed things thanks to a terrible call and Fifa not having the decency to fix what was clearly wrong. Anyway, I hope it's a great final, congrats Spain, they're not winning excitingly, but they're in the final.

Not a fan of Spain imaginary card waving antics.
All teams do that.

So you get 1 goal with Torres.

You drop Torres.

You still ONLY get 1 goal.

Conclusion: It's not Torres' fault that your ball possession amounts to nothing on the scoreboard.
You don't need to compare opponents or individual play when you've got sound logic like that.

I can't help but wonder what the outcome would've been if Muller wasn't booked. Germany looked like a different team without him..
Germany looked a different team because they faced Spain, not because Muller was out.

Nobody gives Spain credit for the team they've got. They just took the most dangerous team in the tournament and barely gave them a chance. Hell of a performance and they deserve more respect.

I think everyone has given them a ton of credit for the team they have. The problem is that their ticky tacka (or whatever) puts most people in a hypnotic trance which makes us rather fall asleep than watch Spain play. We're just a little disappointed that there's not more excitement from a team which on paper is clearly the best in the world.

Text exchange I had on June 8th:

Talking of that, well, Brazil at the moment have the best forwards, midfielders, sweepers, defenders, and goalkeepers in the world. No one's denying it.

I'm denying it. Spain is more talented all over and Holland has a better attack. But I agree Brazil should be the favorites. [And as an aside, I still stand by that comment]

Fifa should allow only 3 Barcaplayers in one NT:)...these guys are just inhuman. Their only weakness is, sometimes they get to excited about their own gameplay and forget to score. Thats maybe the only chance for anybody (Holland too) to beat spain atm. Deserved win without any doubt. I just wish we´ve had tried more.

I was just joking, pal.

Xavi is by far the best midfielder of the last decade. I've never seen him having a bad-period" or anything like that. His passes are accurate and most of the time leave Villa/Torres/Messi etc. 1 on 1 with the GK. I love to watch him play...Iniesta comes close but man...can he build up the play...

Yes. And i never saw him lose his temper or anything like that. No showman. He just plays football. Even when he gets fouled a lot. Thats class. Although i must admit, i dont follow the spanish league very closely. But i still pretty often saw games with him involved. Makes him very sympathic to me.
