oh lord i cant even believe this match in only a couple days away. a couple days till one of the biggest matches in australian sport history will take place.

i hope australia can do it for johnny warren. for those who dont know who i am takling about. john warren was the most influential australian in football. john passed away a year ago. in australia we all agree that he was the one that has put australian football in a better place.

it was johns idea for australia to start calling the game by its real name football. we used to call it soccer like the americans. it was johns idea for australia to start a more professional type league that may interest international players to come and play. we have the a-league now and yes we have some international stars. and you could say that john probably thought we needed a more experienced coach. now we have hiddink. i certainly hope john is smiling down on us for all football has become after his passing.

when we say we want to qualify we do. but at the same time we are saying australia do it for johnny. thats why "destiny 06" as we have labelled it has become important to us. we want australia to win for an aussie football god. we have developed all this passion, hunger and determination because of the man we called captain socceroo.

GOODLUCK AUSTRALIA!

DO IT FO JOHNNY AUSTRALIA! (1943-2004)

therefore my prediction: australia to do it on penalties!

Penalties? I don't think it'll go that far, not with you-know-who in the Uruguay squad. Pavle, YOU know who I'm talking about.

Take this for example. In Sydney most fans will prob just hiss and scream (like any world stadium) while sitting down on their chairs.

Come to a Sydney FC game, The Cove is our version of The Kop. We're leading the barrage of 3,000 sing-songers that will lead the rest of the stadium. Go to the UK, most of the fans singing is only about 25% of the whole crowd, if that.

.. and what will we be singing, Gareth?

I'd say i'll probably just be biting my fingernails the whole time, anyway, but i'd still like to know just in case :)

the crowd will be made up of a LOT of general public, used to sitting down and occasionally clapping at their rugby league or gAyFL games. but there are three supporter groups i believe, and a lot of football fans who have been introduced to the joys of creating an atmosphere through our new league..... so hopefully you will hear SOME noise :) :jambo:

What, who claps at rugby league games? The crowd spends the 80 minutes as a good chance to catch up on some sleep. Not that there's much of a crowd there anyway. An average of what, 20,000 per game this year? :kader:

i don't know what AFL games you've been too, but people are yelling all the time
not a soccer-type atmosphere, but some crazy supporting none the less

i'm sure the aussie crowd will make plenty of noise anyway

He's probably been to a Sydney Swans game, the most boring team in the AFL. Surprised he doesn't like it though, as the way the Swans play resembles rugby.

Its called a running track and foxtel who dislike our swearing (hence they turn it down)

I mean how many Cove fans came down to Melbourne? What? 1 busload, I heard you had atleast 5 coming down. And then you got out sung by the Jet fans, so shutup.

Congrats on the Swans premiership, they deserve it, but those bagging AFL on account of some Sydney Swans scrum games should take a good hard look at the game. Check out www.aflvideo.cjb.net
