Everton looked dead set to win until the ref lost his marbles on the penalty. I didn't see Yakubu encroaching, if anything, two Metalist players were in the area before Johnson struck the ball. He gives a re-take and Johnson misses, on which, looking at the replay, again there was encroachment, but the ref let play go on.
Think the 2nd leg will be difficult for Everton to be honest, they need a win or a high-scoring draw, it'll be a tough task in Ukraine.

Dnepr are the favourites now and have all the chances to go through, while Everton will get their way after all even on the Ukranian ground. Since Metallist didn't look any convicing either and the draw was more like a bad luck for Everton.

Bloody hell, Everton looked dead and buried at half-time, suddenly its 2-2 on the night and if they hang on they'll go through on away goals.

!!Romania is SO screwed in Europe this year. The season has barely started and only Steaua is still in European competition out of the five teams that started the season, this is truly a shocker to me. Whatever coefficient points Steaua will make in the rest of their European campaign will now be divided by 5, yikes. We pretty much have to have an amazing UEFA Cup run or pass the group stages to save this season for Romania otherwise we're gonna drop in the standings dramatically when the new coefficient period begins.

pretty f*cking embarassing night for Italian clubs...
Empoli going out to Zurich wasnt too upsetting as qualifying for this competition was a huge feat in itself,, that being said, they fielded a second string side which was understandable as theyll be battling relegation,,,
meanwhile Sampdoria and Palermo go out to clubs I've never even heard of. Pitiful. Clubs like Palermo and Sampdoria will never qualify for the CL (last year wouldve been their only chance and they blew it), and they are far from worrying about relegation,, so why dont they take this competition seriously? Palermo's stadium was near empty for their match today.
Meanwhile Fiorentina needed PK's to knock out Groningen,, As long as they avoid Bayern Munich I think they can go far,,, as long as they take it seriously

Yeah I mean it was an easy thing to call, at least until those other clubs get some more experience. Rapid and Dinamo not even reaching the UEFA groups though is a very big surprise, I did not think they would both go out so early.

Braga was the only one of the 4 portuguese teams to go through.
U.Leiria surprised me, and the whole Europe. They almost threw out Bayer Leverkusen. And Paços Ferreira did 2 respectable legs, and were unlucky in the 1st leg. Belenenses couldn't do a sh*t. But it was hard to do, Bayern Munchen...ouch.
