Our attack is fluent, and as soon as Crouch...(usual jibbrish talk that ends up with english ppl crying)

Look what ppl said here but you didn´t understand (probably because you have reading comprehension problems) is that Liverpool´s biggest asset is their defensive cohesion. Your defence is extremely strong and if you add a midfield that has Gerrard, Sissoko and Xabi Alonso, it´s easy to understand that, you don´t have to be a genius. Do you expect us to believe that Liverpool´s ofensive units are more influencial? Rubbish. Players like Gerrard, Carragher and Hyppia are crucial to Liverpool´s team balance. More than anyone else. Crouch...he scores against Wigan and Saprissa and now he is god´s gift to people. The strike force is actually one of the few departments where Benfica can have some edge over Liverpool. But i´m sure you muppets will consider Crouch (only the english would rate someone as him) better than an Italian international named Miccoli or a player like Nuno Gomes who has played in Serie A, in World Cups and European Championships and has a goal tally better than Crouch, Cinnamon Ping Pong and Morientes combined. Gloat after you win. Talking crap before the games is easy, acting like a sissy whining bitch afterwards is easy too but you could at least have the decency to wait for the games outcome before you get embarassed again, you never know you might win this time.

Saying I expect us to win by 3 goals is not arrogance. Judging by previous results, that is the standard.

1977/78 (quarters-final)
Benfica-Liverpool, 1-2
Liverpool-Benfica, 4-1
4 goal win

1983/84 (quarters-final)
Liverpool-Benfica, 1-0
Benfica-Liverpool, 1-4
4 goal win

1984/85 (second round)
Liverpool-Benfica, 3-1
Benfica-Liverpool, 1-0
1 goal win

What´s that suppose to prove? England hasn´t beaten Portugal in official games since 1966 and yet i still see english ppl gloating everytime we play saying crap like they will massacrate us, obliterate us, will win everything, this and that. If you go by tradition then you would continue to lose everytime. It doesn´t mean anything. Look at that date, 1984/85 what does that have to do with our current time? Teams are completely diferent and Liverpool isn´t as dominating as they were before.

you are saying that, see.

I'm gonna have another field day if we win this. Shutting up arrogant people (and there is so much arrogance surrounding english footie) like you has to be the best thing about defeating english teams, wether it's club or country.
When the reigning Champ of Europe says he will beat Benfica by 3 goals on aggregate it doesn't sound arrogant to me.

Our attack is fluent, and as soon as Crouch n Morientes start scoring consistantly (if)

I suffer from reading comprehension? I never said Crouch was great, let alone gods gift. I didn't even say that he was on fire or anything of the like. But we have 2 months now and alot of games for Crouch and Morientes to work on their partnership. I didn't say they will combine to make a great forward line, I said that as soon as they start scoring consistantly (again, implying that I didn't think they were on form cos Crouch scored against Wigan and Saprissa) that our attack would be heightened. I also put an if there, as if I was saying that it is not a certainty. Our strike force is easily our weakest department right now, but we have players like Garcia, Riise, Gerrard and Alonso who all score and aren't strikers, so just because we would play goal-shy Crouch and Morientes who might not be so goal-shy by then, it doesn't mean we could put a few past you.

And don't boast about Miccoli having played in the world cup. Morientes has won champs league medals aswell as Djimi Traore :).

My statement was not of an arrogant nature, I am just saying that considering our form, I think we will win by 3 goals. If you give us a really good game and beat us, well done, I will still congratulate you if you do win.

heh well it does to me and I can only imagine the stick that would be given to any Porto fan last year saying something like that around here.

Arrogance means lack of humility. Though it's probable that Liverpool actually goes through the next round, that statement coming from a Pool fan denotes arrogance.

Man United fans expect United to be seriously chasing Chelsea and be close to them. Aroggance? no, expectation, United are a class team when they are up for it.

Arsenal fans expect Arsenal to be chasing Chelsea, not be 14 or whatever points behind them. Arrogance? again no, Arsenal with consistancy are one of the best teams in europe.

Chelsea expect to win every tournament they are in, not arrogance because they are capable of it.

I think we should beat Benfica by 3 goals, and thats arrogance?

Whatever, i don't care. After the games we can continue this and see if I was being arrogant or not.

EDIT: and 3 goals over aggregate isn't even that hard to achieve. It's basically winning one game by 2, at Anfield, and the other by one.

You do have reading comprehension problems, i said that Miccoli was an Italian international and HE IS better than Crouch and that Nuno Gomes was the experienced proven striker who played in those important cups. You don´t get picked for a World Cup or an European Championship unless you are good (at least in Portugal). What you must also understand and i read this thread again, is that the Benfica fans respect Liverpool but they don´t fear them. And they are pleased with the draw because there were far more intimdating clubs to get. Games btw english and portuguese teams are very even so it was obvious they expected to get the club who inspired less concerns. You seem like a proper fan (not a plastic) and you know that real fans don´t take lightly when ppl say that their team will be destroyed, of course they will react. You have confidence in your team and they have in theirs. You defend your team and they defend theirs. Anyways it´s all friendly banter ;)

Heh, Arsenal actually got a team they can strongarm.

I hope we play like Scotland did in Spain, that'd be massive.

We gotta keep Edward Douglass White in check tho.

In my opinion, what shows a little bit of arrogance is the fact that I couldn´t see any Liverpool fan giving reasons for their "easy" win expectations. Let´s face it... I admit that a 3 goals agg is possible, but it's a big difference in this stage of the competition, so I would like to read why do you think Liverpool win with by such a margin. The fact is, I almost sure you don´t know anything about actual Benfica, apart from Miccolli, Nuno Gomes and Simão. I think that it will be very difficult for us, but it's possible. And I justified both.
i'm not trying to be offensive, but I think that that's a typical english thought..You always only see your side. Besides that, your side is always the best in the world... It happens a lot with your NT... I can admit that is comes from the most valuable thing in the english football, the true love from their fans... But,IMO, your "love" is the blindest on the football scene.

Awwww....awwwww....awwww. Nuts wrapped up in a warm towel...you're gonna make me cry, bro.

I guess I could use the overused and untrue excuse of "I've been too busy" with my trivial and uninteresting life, but I won't. I mean, I dig this place, but I just haven't been compelled to post much of anything lately mostly because I don't have anything to contribute.

Oh I'm not saying that I have seen Benfica plenty of times, very few. Recently, I've watched them against United and against Boavista. It's not justified, but I don't really feel I need to justify myself, I am merely expressing my opinion. I didn't say we would win by 3 goals. I am confident in my team.

I also wouldn't agree with saying that a 3 goal agg at this stage is rare. We beat Leverkusen last year by 4 goals, and Lyon beat Werder Bremen by 8 goals.

Besides that, your side is always the best in the world...

edit: Well if we beat Sao Paulo on sunday... ;)
