Dream Team

Starting XI

Just like last season. Rangers-Villarreal.. WTF!!

Chelsea, huh?

This time the second leg is at home so I think it will be different matches.

It couldn't be worse..

Starting XI
Chelsea (ING)-Barcelona (ESP) - Oh no...not this again! My favorites teams in a clash again...who will win this time? Sure Barcelona are playing even better than the last season...and Chelsea are worse IMO. Hot game of the 1/8 IMO, after what we saw in the last year.

Real Madrid (ESP)-Arsenal (ING) - Another hot one. My bet goes to Real Madrid...maybe with the new coach, things can change. Arsenal can still do it, because they have class players, like Henry, Toure, Cole...

Werder Bremen (ALE)-Juventus (ITA) - Erm...hard task for Juve. Werder has great attacking power. But Juve will pass.

Bayern de Munique (ALE)-AC Milan (ITA) - Ouch...Hot Game version 2...A team that is playing great in the last months (Bayern) and a team that in the CL does great defensive work (Ac Milan)...if I could...I would put draw all over it...my bet goes to Bayern Munich this time.

PSV Eindhoven (HOL)-Lyon (FRA) - Great one...repeating the 1/4 last year, and Lyon will make it, IMO. Lyon just keeps getting better from year to year...maybe someday a CL win will be possible.

Ajax (HOL)-Inter de Milão (ITA) - Inter couldn't have chosen better. But Ajax will give a fight.

BENFICA (POR)-Liverpool (ING) - Very very very hard for Benfica. Many "Benfiquistas" wanted Liverpool against them. This is no Man Utd, this team CAN DEFEND. THey have 5 (or 6?) consecutive wins in the Premiership...they didn't lost a game in the group phase...and they are the champions for some reason. They are playing even better than last season. Even harder to believe that Benfica can go through than with Man Utd...but anything is possible.

Rangers (ESC)-Villarreal (ESP) - Haha. Vilarreal, prepare to see yourself shooting some 20 times, and watch Rangers shoot twice and pass to the 1/4. =P

Another super draw after one week. Looking forward to the last 16 for the first time as a neutral. I fancy Rangers to go into the quarter-finals because that is the draw they hoped for.

LOL its funny how things come about. MOST gunner fans wanted to face Madrid. And we got them. Maybe not for the best but it will be a cracking match. We have never won the CL and the super galacticos have a couple of titles under thier belt. Hopefully both squads will be at thier full potential and god knows what the coaches will bring come the transfer window.

Many exciting matchups, without a doubt Chelsea vs Barca will be a cracker of a tie.
Glad to see Chelski facing Barca again. I think Barca will beat them this time with Ronaldinho shining everywhere on the pitch.
Is it Essien going to miss the 2 CL games against Barca?

And what does "cracker" mean? :p Is it big games?

Well, it could've been worse. But I think we will be killed by Adriano and will go home with the big cash that comes when you qualify for the second round.

I hope Barca will take revenge on last year.

The money a Dutch team gets is not like wow, caused by the stupid rule that teams from big countries get more money. Yay, lets make the gap between the countries even bigger!

hmm... pleased that we got Benfica I guess... I wanted Real Madrid, but after that, I wanted to avoid Bayern Munich, I think Benfica and Rangers were the weakest 2 in the second pot, Benfica will do just fine ;)

I can't believe some Benfica fans have confidence in this game. Liverpool can only defend? What are you on about. Our attack is fluent, and as soon as Crouch n Morientes start scoring consistantly (if) then our attack will be great. Teams don't score 3 goals in 6 minutes againts an AC Milan team with one of the best defences if all they are is a "defensive team".

I expect us to destroy Benfica. To win by at least 3 goals on aggregate.

I think its 12 games unbeaten in the Champions League so far and standing... I'm not saying we will win by 3 goals, but I think we should be able to.

I'm gonna have another field day if we win this. Shutting up arrogant people (and there is so much arrogance surrounding english footie) like you has to be the best thing about defeating english teams, wether it's club or country.

We apologize for keeping the yellow too long

I think you would agree that Liverpool is a much more preferable opponent to Chelsea. And I can' t buy into the agreement that we will be winning to 2 or 3 goals. Just 'cause we're playing well now doesn' t mean much come February. They might get red hot heading into the game and we might go ice cold and be unable to score anything, so it' s hard to say who the draw favors until you get to the weekend leading upto the game. When undefeated Arsenal were supposed to face Chelsea in the '04 quarters, all people seemed to feel was that it would be a cakewalk for them because they seemed to beat Chelsea everytime they played eachother. But Arsenal stumbled into the game after having lost their trebble shot to United a few days earlier in an FA Cup semi-final and suddenly they looked human. Chelsea took advantage and beat them. Those few days were arguably the only slip up that great Arsenal team had all season yet it cost them 2 titles, including the CL.

Saying I expect us to win by 3 goals is not arrogance. Judging by previous results, that is the standard.

1977/78 (quarters-final)
Benfica-Liverpool, 1-2
Liverpool-Benfica, 4-1
4 goal win

1983/84 (quarters-final)
Liverpool-Benfica, 1-0
Benfica-Liverpool, 1-4
4 goal win

1984/85 (second round)
Liverpool-Benfica, 3-1
Benfica-Liverpool, 1-0
1 goal win

Have a field day if you win, but this is purely my expectations of the team.

I'm also taking into account how well we have performed in Europe recently. This is not form which will change by February, yes a chance, but right now we are 12 games without loss in the champions league (this is not including premiership or any qualifying games).

But if there are odds already of liverpool managing to win on aggregate by 3 goals, they probably wouldn't be so far-fetched.
