i think sosa what was talking about is that uruguay lack balls , balls to play for the win, those balls you much often talk about, uruguay had every advantage on argentina , i dont know if you agree with me but this is why they cant seem to win something important in recent years, you need to kill your rivals when they are in the ground you also had the chance to put brasil in serious problems if you have beating them, you cant always play for that last minute goal like you said

Wow, i imagine what the other nations from the americas must feel that instead of "recent years" it's........well ever. (well I think Peru won 1 copa america, like 80% sure).

And as for last second goal: It's bad. But the fact that we didnt win only big games..........not only qualifications....but actual tournaments. Thats the difference between us and a "lucky win or 2" that Peru/or Chile might get.

Its not worth saying had "no balls" when Argentina showed less (there was 10 minutes left and the Argentinian announcer on Fox kept screaming: "Come on guys!!!! At least pretend you want to win this thing!" (they just touched the ball around for 80 minutes before trying to attack finally)

So to say that :"we didnt kill them" (when they the "Historical killers" , have been doing that all tournament <remember the 3-3 draw last week? That was balls and Argentina crumbled in the 2nd half because of it>

It's on not to have "balls" once in awhile. But I'd be ashamed to not have it ever (IE: reason why you have teams like Mexico call this their "golden age" cause they came in 2nd at the Copa america once and got kicked out of a 2nd round game at the WC). (((Like Bolivia 94, Chile 98, Peru 78, Ecuador recently..............its always a fad before they hit reality))). (((ie: cuadro chico syndrome)))

---And today's loss wasnt lack of "balls" if it was the coach who made the players defend (just now had an interview saying he was forcing the players to stay back and defend the lead). The players have balls by nature.............what that was , was bad luck. And I accept it.

Or when their qualifying

Qualifying?! Uruguay still had a shot at the title. What happened to winning tournaments being the objective? That conformist attitude is what's been killing (or killed) us this last decade. :nape:

man, no one is conformed. CHILE is happy (cuadro chico)
But at this moment the players are crying.............people everywhere are furious. You cant erase 90 years of glory with 1 bad decade , well never be used to coming in 2nd.

i think brasil still needs to tie or beat colombia to be first, argentina is up in points uptil now.

and i agree you still have a team that can surprise everybody in the WC; they have done it in the past why would this be the exception, cavani was a ghost today, but he is going to give something to talk about in the WC

hehe, its funny that you say that cause I just was reading this book I bought in Uruguay (history of NT) and it had an article that said: "Why is it a surprise when Uruguay wins?" (the conclusion was just our defensive style <the italy of s. america>)

But the article was great.............even in the 50s world papers: "Uruguay just won the World cup!!! What a surprise"
(1 year later)
"Uruguay just won their 13th Copa America ....what a surprise!!!"
(few later)
"Penarol and Nacional just made uruguay's club title count to 8 Libertadores!!! What a surprise!!!!"
(later)
(when we won the "Gold World Cup" in 1980, again: "what a surprise!")

There comes a time when it's not a surprise (pretty much sums up the article nicely)

It was a great read. (the same is talked about for Italy too. They won the World cup was a "Shock" because they didnt attack every 2 seconds like Brazil would have.)

no....bad luck isnt "conformismo"

Bad luck is: facing an Argentina squad who doesnt decide to attack until the 80th minute and scores on their 2nd chance of the game in the 94th minute off a corner.

THATS bad luck (especially after we missed clear chances throughout the game)

Conformismo would have been: "Argentina had 3 men sent off and Uruguay still wanted the draw so put 11 men back and Argentina after still dominating the game for 90 minutes finally won it at the end"

btw, were are winning 2:0 , its funny brasil are just playing to be first, theirs the diference of beeing conformist and playing to win no matter the circumtansces or what are we playing for; well a more perfect example was against uruguay , they knew they needed to win or we were gone.

yes dude but like sosa said you guys werent even winning, you guys knew what was at stake, i wont believe that uruguay were that overconfident to think argentina couldnt score; they knew chile lost and that argentina had now a big chance now , so for me bad luck is when your keeper trips just before someone shoots at him, hell even when you hit the posts is bad luck
my point is the game isnt over until its over, argentina knew that, uruguay had to learn the hard way.

Uruguay deserved to be in the olimpics more than argentina, from what was seen in the whole tournament, but i agree that Uruguay werent playing to win, and the coach was making defensive substitutions (ex. paz for vander putten), which pissed me off even more, if uruguay would have attacked more im sure that they would have won the match, and also the coach made horrible changes during the game, if anyone is to blame for the loss today it's him.

Oh Big Al, stop being a glory hunter (i already stopped taking serious anything you say about Brazil.)

you cant dismiss 105 years of legendary reputation for having the most balls in the world (along with Germany, Italy, Argentina, and not surprisingly the other greats) just cause our goalie missed to fist the ball at the end of the corner kick.

(hell even the entire tournament). "Balls" doesnt mean : "go out and attack like a mad man". Balls means having 2 Brazilians run into PAblo Garcia in the 1-1 Draw last year and have both of them jump out of the way as he literally threw himself head first into the loose ball.
- Or scoring a goal injured when you cant take it anymore from being tired.

Brazil has less balls than any cuadro chico on earth (it's actually the most common joke in Uruguay AND Argentina: IE: when you start crying after an injury: "Hey........are you Brazilian or what? BE A MAN!!!" ......sh!t like that :p

sorry dude but you are wrong this time ; iam not a glory hunter , cause you dont even know me , but thats beside the point.

plus in what moment that i dismiss uruguay's history, crap i didnt even said brazil have more balls ( which they have never need to use them in all their glorious history and present btw), its all in your head mate.

my point was if uruguay had play for the win they would had gone to beijing they should been the masters of their own destiny ( but it seems you are the only one here not to see that, hell i cant believe you are the only one that is not pissed off, i would be), cuase hell they derserve it more than argentina, but they blew it , them selfs , it had nothing to do with bad luck., and i agree the coach **** you big time also.

well I am heart broken, but it's usually the same after the games (im forced to look at the positive side of things after Ruben Sosa comes out with his "it's the end of the world. we'll never get out of this slump" attitude <<been happening for years lol :p >>

everybody takes things diferently, he was a bit of a dramaqueen but i can understand his frustration ; crap i have felt it WC after WC with mexico

plus to be honest i pretty much dont care about beijing, many would disagree cause its the only tournament brasil hasnt won, for me its all about canada; i am eager to get revenge on the argies.

so are we :p
(and I was in Germany this summer for the WC <saved for years to go.........it was my dream trip>) And the mexicans took the loss to Argentina surprisingly well (they were happy at how well they played). (i watched it at a "Bar" thing in front of the stadium <being there was an incredible experience.>

Amazing that Uruguay didn't get to score any goal seeing as the only true defender yesterday was that piece of **** of Cahais, the rest were just backlined midfielders, and Romero in crosses...

And as i said earlier on the thread, Di Maria and Acosta should be starters.:boohoo:

If Argentina would've played with the real U20 probably we would have had more chances to win the tournament.

In the other hand, to me it seemed like Uruguay was fine with the draw. Although for reasons already mentioned it's odd that they didn't score any single goal.

11 years to be exact and I'm a little tired of excuses like "bad luck" or "the ref robbed us".

We needed 4 points from 3 games in which everything was to our advantage, yet we won 1. In some loopy way that means bad luck to you, to me it means lack of spirit, direction and ambition.

I don't think this is the end of the world, but I seriously doubt we'll get out of this "slump" with your mentality.
